The Mystery of Bila Land

Rate this book
“A warrior meditating at the foot of snow-capped mountains, surrounded by vibrant flowers with a flowing water stream nearby. A warrior meditating inside a dark cave with water flowing over his head through a large hole on the roof. A warrior fighting a battle, with chaos all around.”

What do these dreams signify for Vibhas? Why are these visuals hounding him for the past fifteen years? Who is this warrior? What is his dream trying to make him realize?

The key to these questions is found in the midst of a trek to the mighty Himalayas, when Vibhas splits up from his trekking group and enters the gorgeous land of the Bilas, a local tribe belonging to a forest in the Himalayan mountains.

However, there is more than just the answers to his dreams to be found here. As truth after truth gets unveiled, Vibhas realizes that what Bila Land has to offer him is an experience that no human kind has had in a thousand years or more.

I should not have reread this. I skimmed over way too much of a book that is barely a hundred pages. The concept was interesting but the story and writing itself were unreadable. How did I like this in 2015??!!

I received a free copy of this book from the author.

Five Big Bright & Mysterious Stars To This Book
I loved this book in every sense.

Message for the author.
Nitish Krishna, you possess an incredible talent to be a mystery writer.

About the Book
When this review copy landed in my hands, frankly speaking, I never bothered to read it soon. This is a very average looking book with a very plain looking front cover.
After few months, I randomly picked a book from my TBR pile and it was The Mystery of Bila Land, I felt bad that a review copy sent by author is lying unread since so long with me. I started reading it finally.

Right from the beginning, the book started giving signals that this book is not a common stereotype book that usually newbies dish out these days. Right from the first chapter, the story hypnotized me and I was lost in the beautiful land of Bilas. Author has magically created a mysterious world called the Bila land. I must appreciate the author for his skills over creating such a fine imagery around the reader through the words.

The Story
The story is set into 60s and lately it connects to the mythological era of lord Krishna. The protagonist Vibhas is a young mountain trekker boy.
A particular pattern of a saddening dream shakes his sleep daily at early morning for fifteen years. He fails to understand the meaning of message behind this particular dream until he landed in the land of Bilas one fine day.

During his trekking adventure Vibhas and his friends saves few villagers and because of bad weather conditions they have to stay at a forest office in nearby vicinity. Early morning Vibhas decided to explore the area around and he gets lost in the forest and during his efforts of getting back to his place, he found himself in the Bila Land.

This is from where the story picks up with the roller coaster ride of events and mysterious happenings. One must read this book to get the feel of this mystery along with the beauty of this land. The twists and turns in the story are extraordinarily presented by the author. The style of narration is so strong and gripping that I was unable to put the down the book most of the time.

Synopsis
The story is based on a whole new idea and I must praise the Author for his commendable work.
The Mystery of Bila Land is a highly recommended to every fiction lover.
I am looking forward to read the next book which will be carrying the mystery of Vibhas and Bila’s further.

I received this copy of book from Author under the Goodreads first reads programme. This review is my own views about the book and in no way biased.

About author

Nitish Krishna, you are very talented. The way you imagine the expressed whole story is just awesome.

Story
This is a story of boy “Vibhas” who is a mountain trekker. He use to wake up daily in the morning by same dream for 15 years. He didn’t understand what these dreams are about and what they try to communicate.
Once he went on a trekking expedition near Indo-Nepal border with his friends. Accidently he stuck up in a mysterious land, the same land which he saw in his dreams. The Bila Land. There he met with the descendants of Lord Krishna & a beautiful girl “Shubha”.

From this point story picks up dramatically and I bet you will not leave until you finish it.

The book is very good and interesting to read. It has adventure, mythology, suspense, thrill, action, romance and also bit of nature. Nice book. Not another or any ordinary teen mystery or casual suspense read. It has meanings and theories and also their logics.

Thumbs up to the author for the 'mystery behind the protagonist'.

The style of story-telling is a perfect mixture of detailed description and suspense maintenance. Though the story has streaks of vague ethnicity, the writing style remains contemporary throughout. Eagerly waiting for the sequel and the opportunity to witness Bila Land yet again(?).

P.S. : Thanks to the author, Nitish Krishna for bearing with my delays.

‘The Mystery of Bila Land’ is the first book of Nitish Krishna, a business and market intelligence professional. The story revolves around Vilas who has been seeing a particular kind of dream everyday for the last fifteen years. He keeps failing to figure out the real meaning of this dream until he lands on the mysterious land of Bila accidently. And, here begins an exploratory journey of many twists and turns. If you take the narrative voice, setting and theme, and put them all together, this book can be taken as a wonderful reading experience. Inclusion of characters from the well-known Indian epic of Mahabharata further enhances your experience of reading this book. Not even a single page of this book makes you bore. On the other hand, the narrative is too strong to stop turning the pages.

Nitish Krishna likes to call himself a storyteller rather than an author. And, what a storyteller he is! He has an obvious gift for storytelling and an almost instinctive understanding of how to hold the interest of his readers. Structurally the novel is fast paced and intricate, designed to rush the reader very fast. The author is very economical with words and often provides a surprisingly large amount of character development and background description in only a few sentences. While I have no problem with this type of structure as I enjoyed every single page of this book, I also consistently left with the feeling that few more pages could have been added to this scene or that scene. This could be taken both as a compliment and a criticism.

Turning our attention to the characters of this book, we find that the characters are well defined and differentiated, although they are crowded together in such a relatively short novel. You not only relate with each and every character, but also feel their emotions. Additionally, what makes these characters unique is the way they tell the story.

Most of the stories generally contain some sort of a conflict. This conflict not only takes the plot forward, but also gives rise to a crisis where the main protagonist of the story is usually faced with choices. And, most importantly, how that character deals with the crisis helps the readers to understand the protagonist’s emotional, ethical, social, or even physical transformation. The book under review pieces together all these elements well and leads the reader to a sense of both satisfaction and enjoyment. The storyteller of this beautifully woven tale, therefore, should be appreciated for that.

One of the minor but important blemishes of this novel is its front cover. This aspect could have been given more attention. The cover of the book still plays an important role in communicating with a vast majority of the readers. Therefore, utmost care should be given for designing the front cover of the book.

While the end of the book is more than satisfactory and do not disappoint you, the book ends with a promise of a sequel. And, I will be eagerly waiting for this sequel.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

I received the book from the author in exchange of honest review.

For past few months, I have been going through a severe reading slump, not able to read a full-length novel (except for one time when a dear friend and my favorite author gave me her book) so when I was given an opportunity to read this book I took it after reading the interesting blurb and noting that it was only around 150 pages.

I went in not expecting much, just with a thought that it is a small read with an intriguing plotline and with a hope that I will be able to finish it.
I am so glad I read this book. Every bit of it was interesting. While starting the book, the only thing my mind would say was shut the book (as if I don't like reading) because of my crappy non-reading phase but then the author threw in amazing places in the mountains along with a superb opening and then the traveler in me took over and demanded to finish the book.
Actual review begins here. Above is my stupid rant :P

The story was fast paced with not a single dull moment, it was engaging and once I was 25% in, it had me guessing the upcoming scenes, it has amazing mysterious elements and beautiful locations, the author has superbly depicted fighting scenes and beautifully integrated one of the most famous Indian mythology.

As for characters, we meet Vibhas- a mountaineering freak, with a curious mind for unexplored places- a regular guy with not so regular events happening to him, next we meet the Bila tribe who live in this exotic hidden place which I dream to find someday. Vibhas becomes a hero for the tribe but what's a hero without a villain so yes the next important characters of the story are the villains- a group of bandits hell bent on forcing the Bila tribe to leave the beautiful Bila land.
There is one more important character which is my favorite and non-living, yep! you read it right its non-living and that character is the Indian Mythology (won't mention the name as I think it's a spoiler) that gives an awesome twist to the story.
The only thing that I didn't liked was that at few parts I had to re-read the paragraph to comprehend the situation and wished that it has few more lines to properly see what was happening. When I read a picture runs in my mind and when these parts occurred it was like the movie tape was not focusing properly on screen. But then maybe it happened because I was reading after such a long break :)

All in all, it was a quick read with all the drama, action, and a dash of romance (not so much, I'd say it was an action movie which actually focused on the action part rather than the romance). Nitish is a great storyteller and I am eagerly waiting for the next part to get answers for many unanswered questions :D

When you get a 149-pages book from a publisher like Notionpress with not so good quality cover page, what do you expect out of it? Nothing. And if it's from a debutante, you read it just because you have nothing else to read. Having no expectations, I read Nitish Krishna's The Mystery of Bila Land which is first part of the two-book series. The second part is named "Quest for the lost land" and will release later. Now as I am done reading, I can say that this is one of the few books that kept me alive throughout the story and never let me indulge in any thing else than reading the book. I wish if this book could have been of 100 more pages. I am dying to read the 2nd part and check it out if Vibhas finds the lost land again or the search continues. Somewhere, my heart says that he will find and lose it again. Did you see the excitement this book generated in me? I have started predicting the climax of its 2nd part which is yet to release even its synopsis. :-)

Nitish Krishna has a wonderful power of story-telling. I won't say that he is a great writer but the way he has narrated the story makes you believe each and every part though some of them are totally hypothetical or impossible. He has written this book in a manner that it does not make you use much of your brain to remember the name of the characters and what happened when and why. Also the twists that keeps taking place happens at right time which neither takes the story down nor up. I wished if Nitish would have over-described few parts as it could have become one of those parts that a reader would have mentioned all his life as the best pieces he has ever read.

Even though this book can be called from the genre of historical fiction but it is better than most of the books releasing these days as an adaptation of mythologies that we have already seen on television or read from great saints of India. The way Bilas are described and the land is mentioned shows how respectfully author has created the plot that assures the essence of the story isn't lost. I also loved the character of Madhav, Shubh and her father's a lot. Every character, even in a 150-pages book, is well-explained and created. You can feel every character's emotion. The climax of the book is something that takes this several levels up and does not let you feel let down even when it has a touch of sadness. That's where I developed respect for the story-telling skill of the author. This is one book I would ask everyone to read if they like reading historical fictions. It's a light read. I give it 3.75*/5.

Thanks.

The author was kind enough to provide me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

'The Mystery of Bila Land' revolves around Vibhas, a seemingly-ordinary young man who has been haunted by the same dream every night since his childhood. As his life takes a turn for the extraordinary during a mountaineering expedition, Vibhas is forced to reconsider several things that he had previously dismissed, while going on a mission that he would never have even imagined. This story traces his journey as he comes to terms with his destiny, and discovers things about himself that he never knew.

The plot was startlingly original, and the descriptions of the scenery were beautiful. There were some really imaginative ideas that I loved, eg. I especially enjoyed the plot-twist towards the end!

"This is what happens with all humans. They search for answers outside, far away from their souls. While the answer lies within."
There were some philosophical undertones to the story which I really enjoyed. The references to matters like materialism and human greed were subtle, but I felt that these added a great deal of depth to the book.

Overall, I really loved this book! I'd recommend it to anybody with a basic knowledge of Hindu mythology.

With his debut novel, Nitish Krishna has certainly proved his worth as a storyteller.
Can't wait to read Book 2!

I received the book through Goodreads Giveaways. At first I was a little disappointed by the cover design and the thickness of the book. But they say don’t judge the book by its cover.

‘The Mystery of Bila Land’ is a well-weaved, amusing book written by Nitish Krishna. I must congratulate the author for being a good story weaver.

I really loved the overall plot. The story revolves around Vibhas, a boy who had been having strange dreams of a warrior meditating at the foot of snow-capped mountains. The dreams are mostly overwhelming and troubles him. And, that arouses in him the interest of mountain climbing. It is over one such expedition where he loses his way and discovers a mysterious, well-hidden place called Bila Land. He finds that the place in his dreams had always been this mysterious Bila Land, which is completely cut off from the rest of the world because of surrounding mountains. After spending some days in the place, he begins to love the place, as well as Shuba, the village-head’s daughter. The village is constantly under the threat of robbers led by Virat, who has some evil plans for the village. Through his encounters with the robbers Vibhas also learns he has hidden fighting skills of Musti Yudhha and Archery.

This is an amazing book. A gripping novel with a unique story. A pleasant surprise from a first time author.

Vibhas, a trekker by passion, splits from his friends during a trek and gets into the land of Bilas, where he experiences a series of thrilling events and finds answers to those questions, he had been searching since a very young age.

This is a fast paced thriller and a good read for all. Thumbs up!

An amazingly written story with perfectly timed twists and turns. The plot really thickens at the rear end but somehow the climax which should appear open ended leaves you a bit confused.
Overall a highly recommended read and now eagerly looking forward for the sequel.
Thank you Nitish Krishna for giving me this privilege to read and review your debut novel.
I'm sure you will achieve much success and a big fan following. God Bless ☺

Amazing reading. Liked from the core of my eyes and brains. Each page was full of excitement. Every page was adventure. Never thought of Re-carnation of Arjun. Many things I could co-relate with Shiva Triology though. But this books seems at the end quite different from those. Here a common man meets the god. Looking forward for the sequel or the next part of the series. Wonderful experience.

I loved this book, or better, I am enamoured by this book. The best part is the story of the book. It's fresh, glossy , a bit of it is mythical but yet with modern outlook. Above all , the author has come out as a great story teller.

After reading the first few pages of the book I started liking the style of the author. During this whole read I never found a dull moment in the book and that is the magic of the story vis-a-vis author's writing style.

I am highly impressed by this book and the author. I rate it 5/5.

I have bought the book after going through a couple of very positive reviews. But I have found the book more of an average type. The storyline is kind of interesting, but the writing style felt a bit stiff . There were a certain lack of fluidity in the way the characters were speaking. I can't put my finger on it but it was bothering me.
