Without the touch of time affecting her, Tiranna has spent the last two thousand years protecting dangerous artifacts that have the potential to destroy the world. Her distinctive magic makes her one of the most powerful, and at times, one of the most feared.
When she finds a demonic artifact that shouldn't exist, she fears the return of a long-forgotten demon that has a single goal: create his version of Hell on earth. The world she spent her life protecting, could be lost.
Time never concerned her before, but now it's her worst enemy. Only she has the power to destroy the demon masquerading as a black witch. All she has to do is figure out how.
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but with the ability to claim eight states as home; Victoria Escobar writes fiction from her current home in New York. She writes whatever comes to mind and because of such has a variety of genres written including Young Adult, New Adult, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, and Contemporary Fiction.
In spare time if not with family, and friends Victoria enjoys curling up with a book from a favorite author with music playing. If not reading or writing she spends time drawing, sketching, crocheting, or some other random art project. She enjoys staying busy, but most of all enjoys staying creative.
She reads anything she can get her hands on, and devours a book in five hours or less. Victoria reads the Young adult books and the science fiction fantasy books more than anything else. However, she can be caught reading romance novels, and classics at times depending on her whimsy.
What I liked: Okay, I seriously LOVE Tiranna. Her personality and the way she is just lovely. The entire book is full of shifters and dwarves and elves, all living among humans. Plus the variety of faeries and the inclusion of Japanese mythical creatures and deities? I’m sorry I was completely sold to this book. Plus, THE ENDING IS FABULOUS. Tiranna does something that I had not expected to happen. The little clues that built up to it and all the other mysteries about Averille managed to just blow me away by the end. The adventure these two go on managed to make me feel like I was right there, and every hint and thing that happens ends up being so important by the end. Especially her name, her name is incredibly important by the end. It’s all really sweet and had me tear up a little bit. I thought the romance was kinda cute in a way as well.
What I didn’t like: The demon guy? Yeah he barely shows up and then he’s barely an actual problem. We didn’t see much so I didn’t really get the fear and anticipation of the demon guy. Plus his plans are never talked about besides one thing. I was actually looking forward to that part.
Overall review: This book is fantastic. Why have I never heard of this book before? There’s also dragons to a minor degree and I’m sure in the next book the dragon aspect will pick up. The characters and their quirks are well sculpted and done, and everything is done so subtly and ends up having a larger impact on the story than I imagined it would. Again, the ending is fantastic and blew me away. I loved the romance because it wasn’t a big thing, it was just put in and felt good between the characters. I really want the next one, I cannot wait for it!
Recommend?: YES GO READ IT GUYS. THIS IS FANTASY DONE RIGHT. Excuse my language but TEN OUT OF TEN I FUCKING RECOMMEND!
Elves, faeries and dwarves oh my. So here's a story with various races living amongst normal humans, in modern times. It works, and it's strange. World building is wonderful and the settings are well described. There's a bit of a slow burn on the romance and the back story. I can't wait to see where the next book goes, as there's much more story to be read.
Now, if you've read this far, you are still wanting to know why it's 4 stars.. Well, the editing left a lot to be desired. There's a host of issues, including repetition, synonyms, and typos. It very nearly made me quit reading. But, the story kept me going, thankfully. Hopefully the author will have another editor revisit this work and make corrections or suggestions.
I love how Victoria can use modern life but yet still create a world all it's own. She has a way with making me see the story as it unfolds.
Tiranna isn't sure what she is, but there are none like her in the Peerless community. Tiranna can work magic in a way others can't. That sets her apart even among those of her kind.
She finds herself wrapped up in a mystery that involves the Peerless. She plans on getting to the bottom of it.
Averill happened to be at the right place at the right time. Or maybe it was the wrong place at the right time. He wanted to get to the bottom of things as well. When he follows Tiranna and she decides he's pretty quick witted, she makes him her body guard. Someone is spreading evil among her kind and she needs to stop it.
They go on a quest to find out who is behind it. Tiranna fears the person who may be behind it, but will stop at nothing.
In the midst of the journey there seems to be a tense relationship between Tiranna and Averill. I can't quite put a label on it, but it adds a twist to the story I think.
