Having inherited fifteen million dollars, Doris goes to Chicago to meet with a man who claims to be the real heir to the fortune, only to be kidnapped and involved with the most sinister members of organized crime.
This is book #8, the last title of the Doris Fein Mystery/Spy Series. It wasn't my favorite but it's still a great story. Doris runs into more peril/fear of death per book than the average teenaged sleuth.
In this book Doris and her boring but excellent lawyer, Brian Donnelly, travel to Chicago to face a man who claims to be Harry Grubb's natural son. This claim, if substantiated, could cause Doris to lose her inheritance from Harry. Doris doesn't care- she just wants justice. The man is a light-skinned black man and is a humanitarian who is only interested in keeping kids off the street. She's charmed by him and works to substantiate his claim as Harry's son. However, they get mixed up in a Chicago mob land deal and once again, Doris is fleeing for her life.
