April Book report Women Explorers of the Air By:Margo McLoone
Women Explorers of the Air is a very basic detailed book that really explained many different fascinating pilots. In this factual book you get to learn about five different outgoing women pilots such as Harriet Quimby, Bessie Coleman, Amelia Earhart, Beryl Markham, and Jacqueline Cochran. The book goes into detail on every pilot and their biggest feats. Such as longest distance and even fastest speed. Learning the whole overview of each character is very interesting on how they inspired other people.
Through out this outstanding factual book I personally noticed some pretty obvious themes. The first theme that stood out to me was to never let anybody say no to your dreams. Through out the book it seems to be that every women is rejected because they are women, but they do what ever they can to follow their goal. The second theme that popped out of the book was that no goal is ever to far or high. Most thought that flying for women was impossible, but once again these powerful women pushed through and succeeded.
This book summarizes the lives and accomplishments of five women who were early pioneers in aviation. Even though this book is geared towards ages 9-12, I enjoyed reading about all the brave woman who were courageous enough to learn to fly in the early days of aviation. I learned about five different women pilots, Harriet Quimby, Bessie Coleman, Amelia Earhart, Beryl Markham, and Jacqueline Cochran and the main thing was that most of them were turned down just because they were woman. One thing they had in common was their tenacity to reach their goal and accomplish what they wanted to do.
