After being educated as an English Major at Yale and The University of Washington, Rainer engaged in a 10 year career in show business as a singer-songwriter-musician, appearing in concerts around the world and Las Vegas Hotels like Caesar's Palace, The Riviera and Aladdin. His musical and lyrical experience led to writing commercials for television and radio for national clients while managing his own companies for two and a half decades. Writing for others finally prompted Rainer to try his hand at thriller novels and screenplays. After a few years of advice and help from several editors and his agent, Rainer was able to publish two novels in 1997-98, which have been now released as reprints along with two new thrillers titled COSMOSIS and THE FIND. Aside from his love for writing, Rainer is also currently an owner/partner in a marketing firm that specializes in product development and high profile computer graphics.
You might think because I am married to Rainer, that I am biased, but I can honestly say that when I read the manuscript for the first time I was blown away! I am a James Patterson, Tom Clancy, Daniele Steele fan.... A book has to grab me immediately, this book will grab you in the first few paragraphs of the first chapter and then it never lets you go! And , the best part is when you are coming to the end you start dreading the fact that soon this awesome story is coming to an end. I am not a writer, I simply love to read.... If you like suspense, thrillers, and intrigue ... Then you will love this book!! But, my Favorite is yet to come.... The Find, is beyond awesome!!
Jace's father worked for NASA and was murdered while working when Jace was really young. Maddy's father was a GM executive who Maddy disliked because he didn't care about the environment like she did. The separate storylines of Jace and Maddy are thrust together as each of them become increasingly entangled in figuring out the secrets about alternative energy sources that lurked in their fathers' lives. The path to knowing what Jace and Maddy's fathers were up to is littered with lots of dead bodies, both assassins and loved ones as these two unravel the mystery bonding them together.
The morbid circumstances that bring Jace and Maddy into each others lives is, in its underlying structure, a standard meet cute, which I must admit irks me. Not that it's a bad thing to use a ploy like that, but because the book is categorized as a thriller/action & adventure I wasn't expecting to have that much romantic plot in it. Yes, a love story can certainly exist within an action story, but it felt more contrived than naturally occurring, thus making it seem superfluous.
There were several occasions where some copy editing was essential, yet it appears to have been somewhat neglected. Within the first chapter or so of the book, there was a duplicated paragraph. I did a double take as I read (almost) the same thing twice. At first, I thought it was an intentional technique to place emphasis, but in rereading it out of confusion, it became apparent that it was simply a duplication. While it may not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, it was really distracting and the fact that an error of that magnitude occurred at the beginning of the book sets the stage for easier discrediting of the admittedly intriguing premise. Then instances of repeated sentences and omitted words followed and further placed doubt upon the quality of the writing.
Cosmosis is a must-read for fans of current-day thrillers who are looking for a little less in scar-faces, flashbangs and uzis, and something more in plot complexity, adult character insights and perhaps a dose of ancient mysticism.
Cosmosis careens against the boundaries of the genre, first avenging a father's murder to unexpected romance to international espionage...then add government hit lists, global warming and the dream of nuclear fusion energy. When you have that set in order weave in the next chapter of some of the earth's most persistent archaeological (and extraterrestrial) mysteries, spanning Easter Island, the Great Pyramids, the Peruvian glyphs of the Nazca plain, and more.
A lavish cast of richly drawn characters fly and fall through this labyrinth at a brutal pace that may both keep you up at night and make you go back over things in the morning. The leading "couple," Jace and Maddy are both human and heroic. But they are anything but together for most of the book, even though increasingly we understand they are meant for each other. That allows Mr Rey to draw them each in technicolor and fit them into an unlikely, interdisciplinary team racing against some very Red Chinese as a new nuclear threat--and a prize from ages and benefactors past, comes out of hiding in what may be a new energy age for mankind.
Chuck L in AZ: Cosmosis by Rainer Rey is a fast paced, modern novel combining ancient mysteries of Egypt, Peru, and the U. S. Southwest, with a quest for an alternate energy source. Intriguing connections occur between Jace Kelton's and Maddy Marro's family. A frantic pursuit to solve the puzzle left by the ancients. All aspects of the book, characters, plot and settings are well well thought out and developed. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fast paced and fascinating and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this book genre.
In 1993, Kelton is murdered for secret photographs of Mars probes. Now years later, scientists that he worked with are being killed off in order to gain possession of an energy secret and his son is in danger. Both the Chines and the American government are striving for the secrets held by the murdered men and will let nothing or no one stand in their way. I loved this book! Ranier Rey is a master in describing scenes in such a visual way that, from the beginning, I almost could feel the rain, the wind, the storm on the oil rig and the fear of those on board. I was hooked on this book and could not put it down, finishing it in one day. It is an exciting, fascinating mystery in the genre of Da Vinci Code and I would recommend this to anyone!
Excellent book. From the opening sentence to the end of the book it kept me wanting more. Jace and Maddy's stories both unique come together very well. Highly recommend this book.
I'm not a huge sci-fi fan; however, this was a very well written book. Conspiracy, murder, governmental corruption, aliens, and even a little romance. Something for everyone.
Thrills, action, adventure: this novel has it all. Throw in some espionage and some interesting relationship twists and there is no way you can put it down. Loved it!
