He lunged at her with scissors and yelled, “I’m going to kill you!” He tried to stab her, but she was able to wrestle the scissors from his grasp. She began to sob, not because she was being attacked, but because the attacker was her three-year-old son.

I saw Anne Grady speak recently, and she is an incredibly funny, warm, dynamic speaker with multiple important messages. This book is frustrating in that you want to read to see what she has to say next, but you also find yourself pausing to think about what it means, and what you think about what it means, and how you aren't really guilty of that thing she's talking about, but you also are, kind of, a little.
Not everybody is into self-help books, and this isn't a gentle pat and a spa-like whisper, nor is it a hard-charging Dr. Phil-Texan catchphrase fest. Instead, it's full of truths: you have to do the work, and it's not always easy, but it's really the only way.
While the book has humor, I was more blown away by her in-person presentation - probably because it's easier to connect with an audience than a blank page. And, if you can accept this critique from a person who wrote the second sentence of this review with a straight face, I think there are places in the book that could use tighter polishing. Still, it's a book worth reading by a person with stories worth telling. And if you have the opportunity to hear her speak, don't miss it.
Loved this book. Read the entire thing in one sitting, now I plan to go back and read it one chapter a week, as it's designed to be read. Now I'll focus on the strategies. But I felt while reading that Anne Grady, the author, could be a really good friend if we met. I look forward to spending more time with her in the future, even if only through her book.
