Some chapters are better than others. The first four, three of which cover the philosophical, historical and cultural basis of English as a discipline, are particularly strong. The first edition published over 20 years ago, so it's in need of an overhaul in places. A very useful primer for any would-be or trainee teacher based in the UK, nonetheless.
