Pirates Eat Porridge

Rate this book
HOIST THE SAILS! MAN THE POOP DECK! A side-splitting tale with ridicuous pictures to tickle the funny bones of kids everywhere. "Who is the captain of this here fish-finger house?" When a pirate arrives at Billy and Heidi's door, it's the start of a crazy and unpredictable adventure as they sail their "fish-finger" house to Itchy Ear Island, and learn all sorts of quirky facts about pirates, parrots, and cabbages along the way. Filled with outrageously funny dialogue, this hilarious pirate tale is the perfect yarn for newly independent readers (and scallywags)!

From strat to finish, this book has very weak continuity and is very confusing. The pirate in the book is a very creative character, but there is not enough creativity in the world to save this book in my opinion. I didn't find any teaching lessons from this book, as it is just an adventure to find treasure. I personally couldn't even tell whether they were selling in their house or in the tree houes until the last page. And the beginning of the adventure? Good luck keeping track with that as well. In the end, this book has too much going on in it for children to follow efficiently.

This book has a kind of whimsy that will appeal to kids a lot. It felt a little like Cat &The Hat in the sense that a stranger ( in this case a Pirate) shows up at young Heidi and her brothers house. He demands porridge ( which he doesn't get, and then sails the kids house in search of treasure.
Kids will love this , Adults will notice the plot holes! A fun read!

A confused pirate and his parrot/pig bring some surreal excitement into the lives of a bored brother and sister. This was a silly, tiresome read, and I enjoyed neither the story, nor the illustrations.

My kids liked this one better than I did. I guess they got the author's humor where I didn't.

A whimsical book that doesn't really make sense. However the story is fun and crazy. My 8 year old loved it. I would recommend.
