A Dostoevsky dictionary

Rate this book
• The first dictionary in any language to identify every character in Dostoevsky's fiction.
• Identification of historical & literary allusions.

This invaluable new reference book enables the reader to do two things: 1) locate every character in Dostoevsky's works and find out the main facts about that character, including exactly wheere he appears in a given work or works, and 2) learn the meanings of literary, historical, and other allusions made by Dostoevsky.

The extensive cross-referencing and index also enable the reader to check in sequence all allusions to one subject: e.g., if the user wants to know the location of all references to Shakespeare, or Pushkin, or to a character or even a poetry quotation, the index to the Dictionary makes this possible.

The primary arrangement of the Dictionary is work-by-work, chronologically. Within each work each character name used, as well as each allusion, is given in alphabetically order.

A vast amount of research has gone into these explanations, and now the reader need no longer be puzzled by arcane Russian literary allusions or references to minor French authors.
