This volume offers a systematic study across the entire 2000-mile border between the US and Mexico. Using integrated spatial analysis, GIS, and statistical cluster analyses of urban patterns and distributions, it shows similarities and differences in cities across the border. It focuses on eight cases studies of binational border San Diego-Tijuana, Imperial County-Mexicali, Nogales-Nogales, El Paso-Ciudad Juarez, Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras, Laredo-Nuevo-Laredo, McAllen-Reynosa, and Brownsville-Matamoros. The analysis of border cities is followed by studies of three issues critical to the the environment, maquiladoras and immigration. The final chapters present a consolidated research model and recommendations for city and (binational) regional planning.
