Emigrant Worlds and Transatlantic Communities: Migration to Upper Canada in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century (McGill-Queen’s Studies in Ethnic History)
I read this book as part of my family history research and appreciate the insight provided about the emigrant experience (decision, prep, voyage, arrival) through the compilation of letters and newspaper notices.
A "cast of characters" would have helped as the author jumps quite a bit from time period/emigrant with her quote selections.
The last, post conclusion, chapter was among the most interesting as discusses trends in research on the issue, with a move to recognizing the complexity and uniqueness of the emigrant journeys, that it wasn't just a monolithic movement of people.
