Award-winning author Tara Kingston writes historical romance laced with intrigue, danger, and adventures of the heart. A Southern-belle-out-of-water in a quaint Pennsylvania town, she lives her own love story with her real-life hero and a pair of deceptively innocent-looking kitties in a cozy Victorian. The mother of two sons, Tara’s a former librarian whose love of books is evident in her popping-at-the-seams bookcases. It goes without saying that Tara’s husband is thankful for the invention of digital books, thereby eliminating the need for yet another set of shelves. When she’s not writing, reading, or burning dinner, Tara enjoys movie nights, cycling, hiking, DIY projects, collecting dolls, and cheering on her favorite football team.

The third book in Tara Kingston’s Secrets & Spies series is every bit as good as the first two!

Set during the American Civil War, this book tells the love story between a Rebel officer, Will Reed and a Union spy, Kate Sinclair.

Tortured by Dubois, a ruthless outlaw, and facing death, Will escapes the cold-blooded fiends. He sets a course to uncover the truth, exact revenge, and kidnap Kate—the woman he loved, the woman who had betrayed him.

Kate fights for the Union, using her beauty and seductive lure to outsmart the enemy. She bears agonizing memories and scars from her encounter with Dubois, but the most agonizing of them all is her betrayal of Will, the man she loved. When he steps back into her life, she faces convincing him of her innocence or losing him forever.

I highly recommend this book and anxiously await the next one by this author!

Lovers torn apart by war is a favorite subject of many books but Kingston takes it one step further because her heroine is an important spy and must set aside her own wishes and desires for the good of her country. This is a lively adventure with the Civil War as the backdrop. Never mind brother against brother, how about falling for the enemy and having him think the worst of you? This was a well-told, fast-paced story with lots of twists and turns. I especially enjoyed the strength of her heroine who had to resist the man of her dreams to save him. No easy feat. Even harder to handle was his incorrect perception of who she really was! That is heart-wrenching. Fair Warning - Don't even start this book if you have something else to do because you won't want to put it down.

Grab a box of chocolates, a glass of iced tea and curl up in your favorite chair because the third book in Tara Kingston’s Civil War chronicles is a great summer read. The author is so adept at moving you into the lives of her characters there’ll be times when you might actually blush, feeling as though you shamefacedly stand in the corners of the rooms where Kate and Reed carry on their affair of the heart.
