Based on the TV series "NYPD Blue", this story takes readers to the very beginning of the partnership between Detectives Andy Sipowtiz and John Kelly of Manhattan's 15th Precinct. "Penguin Readers" is a series of simplified novels, film novelizations and original titles that introduce students at all levels to the pleasures of reading in English. Originally designed for teaching English as a foreign language, the series' combination of high interest level and low reading age makes it suitable for both English-speaking teenagers with limited reading skills and students of English as a second language. Many titles in the series also provide access to the pre-20th century literature strands of the National Curriculum English Orders. "Penguin Readers" are graded at seven levels of difficulty, from "Easystarts" with a 200-word vocabulary, to Level 6 (Advanced) with a 3000-word vocabulary. In addition, titles fall into one of three "Contemporary", "Classics" or "Originals". At the end of each book there is a section of enjoyable exercises focusing on vocabulary building, comprehension, discussion and writing. Some titles in the series are available with an accompanying audio cassette, or in a book and cassette pack. Additionally, selected titles have free accompanying "Penguin Readers Factsheets" which provide stimulating exercise material for students, as well as suggestions for teachers on how to exploit the Readers in class.
For a fan of the series - only the first season mind you and I only watched it for Caruso or rather Horatio Caine - it was an absolute thrill to read this little nugget. Like the author writes in the introduction the series abruptly went into the lives of Detectives Kelly and Sipowicz so a prequel to it was exciting
I'm beginning to love Max Allan Collins writing as well. I adored his two Miami books. The guy has a gift for characterisation. He's stayed true to both series so far and his vocabulary is always appropriate to the setting
4. His father was a detective when Kelly was a child, and he was famous for being honest. Sadly, someone shot his father dead when Kelly was only eleven. Kelly decided to be a policeman because of his father- because his father was an honest policeman and because he died for that. Kelly is very proud of his father. He is working for police. I hope he can be like his father someday.
5. This story was little difficult for me because there are many characters. Many people dis. However, police try to find out the evidence, so it is excited.
