In Time

Rate this book
It never occurred to Allie Winters that there was something different about Evermore—the small town that she was forced to spend five days in because her car had to be fixed. Yes, it was quaint and yes, it seemed maddeningly out of step with the current times, but it was nevertheless like all those other “remember when” towns she had visited—people in different era clothing, out-of-date music playing on the radio, roads that were only semi-standard and no modern conveniences to be seen or heard. In other words, just another tourist trap.

But was it? The clues were always there for Allie but in the beginning she misreads them and thinks she has come upon yet another “restored” town that Americans like to visit during summer vacations. When she finally understands that by some strange trick of fate she has actually entered a time warp – it’s only August, 1941, in Evermore – it’s too late for her to just leave for she has already fallen in love with the editor of the town’s weekly newspaper. Noah Wilson, in the course of only a few days, has won her heart in a thousand small ways – from his low-key acceptance of life to his extraordinarily old-fashioned ways of loving her.

IN TIME is a love story of two people who, through some “window in time” are able to meet, get to know each other, fall in love and then understand that that love—though they don’t know how—will be bound forever and ever throughout eternity.

From the plot alone this is a book that promises to offer an interesting and unique tale. The story is wonderfully written and you can tell the author has placed so much time and passion into her story. You can really read it in the pages.

I really liked the future-past concept of the story. It added an interesting dynamic to Allie’s and Noah’s relationship and throughout the story I could not guess what would happen in the end. Sometimes when reading a book you can predict what will happen and Constance kept me guessing throughout.

The characters Allie and Noah are wonderfully portrayed and I felt such empathy toward them. At first I was not sure if I liked Allie as a character. She is very ambitious, work-focused and when we are first introduced to her she is struggling to overcome a bad breakup with her ex-boyfriend and boss, Drew. However the realism in her character made her a believable person and she was so relatable. By the end of the story I was rooting for Allie and Noah to make their relationship work and if a romance story makes the reader cheer for the protagonists then the writer has succeeded.

I could sit here and write so much about Noah. I can tell why Allie fell so easily in love with him because so did I. Recently, so many romance books over-dramatize their characters (Twilight, quickly comes to mind), and yes it sometimes works in a book but when reading In Time, Allie and Noah’s relationship felt fresh and convincing. Although this is a fantasy story it felt real.

In regards of the plot, my only issue, if it can be considered as an ISSUE, was that it may have benefitted the story more if the major twist of In Time was not revealed on the blurb. From starting to read the book, I knew Allie was in a town that was ‘stuck in time’ during 1941. So when reading the book I felt sometimes there was no need for the big hints that there was something unusual about Evermore because I already knew. I think it would have made In Time EVEN better if this was kept as a surprise twist because I think it would have been a powerful one for the reader.

This story was fantastic and fresh. It is the kind of story when you finish reading you start telling everyone about it. My mum and step-dad can attest to that!

In Time by Constance Walker is an exemplary read and at the end I was speechless and emotional.

This was an excellent book! Full of love and hope with a hint of sadness too. Allies a photographer for a newspaper was traveling around taking photos for a calendar. She has an accident in middle of nowhere Noah finds her and she thinks the town of Evermore is a tourist attraction set to look like 1940's. She finds out that Noah and the town are part of a time warp. As she spends time in the town and with Noah she falls in love with both. She had to go back to her own present time leaving Noah behind will she be able to do it? Read more to find out! This book was an excellent read!

A sweet love story with a unique perspective on time travel. Two very likeable characters, Allie and Noah, who fall in love in spite of their differences. Allie, recently separated from her "boyfriend" and Noah, who has lost his fiance, are forced to separate, will they find each other again, in time?

"Assumptions are dangerous things to make, and like all dangerous things to make -- bombs, for instance, or strawberry shortcake -- if you make even the tiniest mistake you can find yourself in terrible trouble." -- Lemony Snicket, The Austere Academy

Assuming, is always dangerous. Allie assumes the town she's come to, in hopes of helping with her car trouble, is just a typical old town. Nothing special. Nothing ordinary.

Dangerous assumptions sometimes have rewards.

Enter Noah. And the fact the town isn't just an old town in the middle of no where.

This novel introduces a fresh perspective on time, love, and soul mates. Love can happen anywhere, and sometimes, Fate tweaks reality, so true love can bloom.

With old-fashioned habits and personality, Noah wins Allie's heart quickly, putting her in a difficult position.

This story was wonderful, dramatic in a low-key way, and a fun way to spend an afternoon. I would recommend it to anyone who thinks it sounds interesting.
