Welcome to Tim Dorsey's Florida — where nobody gets out unscathed and untanned! Get five Dorsey novels full of murder and mayhem all set in the wacky world of Florida in one e-book, including: Florida Roadkill, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, Orange Crush, Triggerfish Twist, and The Stingray Shuffle. Mystery fans are in for a wild ride along with Dorsey's favorite character, the lovable serial killer and Floridaphile Serge A. Storms.
Tim Dorsey was born in Indiana, moved to Florida at the age of 1, and grew up in a small town about an hour north of Miami called Riviera Beach. He graduated from Auburn University in 1983. While at Auburn, he was editor of the student newspaper, The Plainsman.
From 1983 to 1987, he was a police and courts reporter for The Alabama Journal, the now-defunct evening newspaper in Montgomery. He joined The Tampa Tribune in 1987 as a general assignment reporter. He also worked as a political reporter in the Tribune’s Tallahassee bureau and a copy desk editor. From 1994 to 1999, he was the Tribune’s night metro editor. He left the paper in August 1999 to write full time.
I didn't like this book at all. I was waiting for the humor and it never showed up. I was interested in the two men that were going fishing and had to find out what happened to them. I wasted money buying the sequel.
Florida Roadkill / Triggerfish Twist / Stingray Shuffle were all a lot of fun! Hammerhead Ranch motel felt tough to get through. The plot was all over the place and the story felt a bit rushed in its creation... maybe Dorsey was hustling to get a follow-up to Roadkill out on the shelves. I skipped Orange Crush because I wanted to focus on the Serge Storms series.
The full series was killer. Surge, Coleman, Lenny, Sharon, the whole crew is portrayed in such an upbeat and fun way that you can't help but take enjoyment in the characters even when Surge is murdering. Book 16 was probably the low point in the series but 17, 18, and 19 made up for it. I am looking forward to book 20 in January or Febuary.
