As the youngest and unfavorable son of a power hungry lunatic, the eternal nineteen year old Brom Cade has found himself in a position he can't quite get himself out of. He has spent the last five centuries trying to prove himself to a father who will never view him as anything but the reason for his wife's death, as she died while giving birth to him. Mirela, a beautiful young woman who just turned eighteen, is the adopted granddaughter of a powerful gypsy chovexani-a witch, who only days before hand found herself in a perilous situation when she was abducted by the crazed hand of the Cade family, Fendrel. After hours of medieval torture and nearing the brink of death, Mirela was rescued by Brom after he had been threatened by her grandmother if she was not returned safely. In order to save her, Brom killed Fendrel- consciously betraying his father. Embarking on a dangerous journey that could ultimately end with their deaths, Brom struggles with what he is feeling for a human girl who is by all means forbidden to him. Mirela tries to deny the compassion she feels for the vampire, but it's proving to be difficult. As the days pass and boundaries are pushed, they both begin to ponder the same question. What are they evading more? Certain death or love?
T.E. Ridener resides in Southeastern Kentucky with her husband and their furbabies, Cujo (dog) and Christine (cat). She's still writing up a storm, and hopes to complete some of her most beloved series before 2022 comes to an end. Stay tuned!
Brom a vampire trying to please his father who hates the ground he walks on. Mirela, the gypsy who want to make her own way. A chance kidnapping and their two worlds collide. They were told never to trust each other because of who they were, but somehow they began to have feelings for each other. Brom wants to save her from his despicable father who wants nothing more than total power. He decides the only way to save Mirela is to take her far away from his father and everyone else. They begin a long journey of trust and love when they allow their true feelings to come out. Can Brom save her from not only his father but from an evil that has been building since the beginning of vampires? Both of their "souls" are at risk. Will love ultimately prevail or will they be torn apart from centuries of fighting for power. T.E. Ridener tells the tale of two worlds colliding and has you wanting more each page. It is a must read and a new twist to vampire stories.
Another wonderful read, a love story between a Gypsy girl and a Vampire. It is very well written & flows effortlessly, a story that grabs your attention from the start to the end. There are twists & turns that I didn't expect & surprisingly fell in love with the bad guy, or is he?
Another T.E Ridener book devoured - love this like all her books
We are first introduced to Mirela and Brom in Blood Betrayal when Brom saves Mirela from one of his father's crazed vampire servants and sparks fly. There are a few problem with this in that Brom is a Vampire and Mirela is a Gypsy, also a few other parties are against this relationship. Will Brom be able to keep Mirela alive and is their love strong enough to survive against the odds
This is probably my favorite in the Blood series so far. I love Brom's tortured soul and Mirela's selfless heart. I hate Naamah and Hadrian.
Mirela, a Romani (gypsy) is on the run with the second son of the Cade family, Brom. After her mother tries to marry her off, Mirela is rightfully upset about not wanting to follow misogynistic traditions. She wants her own life, and there's more than one conflict when Brom shows up at her door trying to warn her of oncoming danger because of who she is.
After initially trying to find Mirela to try and destroy Lilith to please his father, Brom ends up saving Mirela and protecting her from everyone else sent to destroy her. Unfortunately that means traveling world wide at the speed of light and risking Mirela's health. They're supposed to hate each other, and go against what they were raised to feel and think, only to find that the other isn't so bad, and they each think of what it might be like to be with the other. This goes to show hatred isn't natural - it's a nurtured response to reinforce the previous generation's actions. He's initially defensive to protect himself, because he's done so his whole life. As the second son who can't seem to do anything right, Brom has fought his whole life to impress his father. Who hasn't tried to impress their parents. But the truth is, if Brom tried, he'd realize the other "Father" still loves you and the love of another person (man or woman) is what completes you and he soon realizes it's the love of Mirela that completes him (not to sound like Jerry Maquire or anything...) I love Brom's comment "To see one's reflection is to see one's soul". How often have you asked someone "how can you look at yourself in the mirror after such-and-such?" This is what that means. To face your soul-the one that really suffers for your actions- is what you're doing. Brom has done many wrongs in his life, but not for himself and that's his true crime. Now he is attempting to right those wrongs...
Brom's thoughts turn to selflessness as he thinks of Mirela before himself, and questions why she is surprised by his chivalry. He even thinks to himself how she doesn't expect it. Almost no woman does in this day and age, mainly because guys think they HAVE TO do something to be a certain way. I for one don't like the fake chivalry of opening the door for a lady, but not letting her make her own reproductive decisions. If you're going to respect women, go all the way. That said, actions mean more when they're not expected. (Note: it is gentlemanly to offer assistance, not to insist).
Naamah is a daughter of Lilith and second wife of Lucifer. There is hint to incest in this book, just fair warning. If you thought Lilith was a biotch, well this Naamah chick puts Lilith to shame in the "pain in the ass" department. She shows up along Brom's quest unannounced, tricks him, makes him dream of her, threatens Mirela and spills the beans on Mirela's real reason on Earth (well, she IS associated with the Devil...). She tells Brom not believing in God means he can't believe in anything else. OK, I get the "false idols" thing, but honestly that was invented by Christianity to make themselves the big cheese in the religion department.
She's an inconvenient nuisance and she's partnered with Hadrian. He's another one of Brom's father's henchmen and he pretty much shows up at random like Naamah, only he also causes Brom physical damage. He does manage to save Brom's ass at one point, so his endgame, while not entirely clear, is obviously for selfish reasons.
I love how Brom and Mirela find themselves in love with each other before they even realize it. They go from having to put up with each other to Brom being Mirela's first and both putting everything on the line. With Mirela's grandmother showing up and explaining her true self, and Brom being told the truth about the future, we get some insight as to what bloodline Brom hails from and how he and Mirela will create a new future (if you read Jamen you'll know this part when you get to it;if you didn't don't worry you won't be lost). I'm not really keen on a newly 18 yr old being a future mom, but I get the idea of creating "life from death", seeing as they made love in the catacombs beneath Paris and Brom being (currently at least) without a soul.
I'm very interested in finding out how Brom and Mirela were able to conceive a baby and what happens as a result of it and I really hope Naamah and Hadrian bite the dust. Pun intended!
Brom's a lot more developed in this book. Again, I think he's my favorite in this series so far...
To say a little and NOT give anything away, that is the great struggle for a reviewer. If I really enjoy a book then I want to next person to do the same. You SHOULD read BLOOD BETRAYAL and the novellas for LILITH and JAMEN first, in order to really appreciate this one.
The character of Brom Cade is a total and complete hit for me. I adore this vamp! Simply because he is not perfect, he is montrous in attitude, he does NOT 'sparkle'. As the story progresses, we learn with him and it is hard not to cheer him on. As for the leading lady, Mirela, she is utterly endearing. The trials thrown at her in such a short time are not light! Her entire world changes in a very invading, ugly manner.
The twists and turns in this book, some very unexpected new information, all of it keeps you in the story. For me, T.E. Ridener has once again sent me on an emotional roller coaster! Even though she is still young in writer terms, I find her ability to make me FEEL the story is spot on. Enough to be able to rank her in my top pick list for go-to authors. Her characters become vividly real for me. I do not know about you, but 'I' read to escape MY reality. I read in order to get a break from stressing over my own emotional Life junk. Ms. Ridener does that--she takes me there with her style of writing! For which I am so grateful! I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.
Book 1.5 in the Blood Betrayal series, Mirela and Her Vampire focuses not on Jude and the vampires related to his situation, but rather his enemy from Book 1, Brom Cade. While the previous main characters aren't included, this book does further the story in its entirety, confirming things I'd suspected at the end of Book 1 as well as giving some backstory that made things quite a bit clearer.
While this book does contain some errors and a few awkward passages, the characters more than make up for those small things. Brom ends up having much more depth than, I feel, the characters from Book 1. While I am interested to see how Book 2 progresses and am curious about the whole Jude storyline, I'm more interested in seeing where things end up for Brom and Mirela. I thoroughly enjoyed these two characters and, with a bit of polish, would rate this book at 5-stars. An interesting plot and amazing characters continues to be the reason I'll read anything T.E. Ridener puts out.
I liked the characters and the development that you start to see near the end. They had good dialogue even though most of it was spent trying to figure out a way to get away. The biggest twist turns out to be who the enemy really is. There is a lot of development for Brom in the sense that at the end his biggest fear doesn't even begin to be a concern. Mirela on the other hand has to come to the understanding that her life will never be the same. The unexpected moments definitely make the book worth the read, even if the pace at the beginning is a little slower than I would have liked.
I would recommend this to paranormal suspense readers, even though it is under romance that comes a lot further down the line and is more implied than acted on. I will admit I bought the book mainly because for the first time ever I found my name somewhere. I did the wrote the review because at the end it did grab my attention and I would recommend it, even if it didn't capture me throughout the book.
Absolutely loved this book! I could not put it down. I felt hate and love for the different characters. And I felt the excitement and anxiety for them in the different scenes! I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book!!! The ending just had me jumping up and down like a mad woman.
