Dr Tim Chester is involved in The Crowded House, a church planting initiative in Sheffield, UK. He was previously Research & Policy Director for Tearfund UK, and has been published widely on prayer, mission, social issues and theology. He is married to Helen and has two daughters.
A wonderfully concise handling of the topic. An excellent check-up for long-time preachers and a radical shake-up for those who preach sermons that aren't gospel-centred.
Parts one (goals of preaching) and four (priorities of preaching) were especially good.
It's a great book to be reminded of the basics and to do together with other young preachers. The layout functions more as a short textbook, with case studies and workshop tasks. It adds nothing new or interesting, with other books on the market having done the job better with a similar model. Unfortunately I counted over 20 basic editing mistakes in a book no longer than 150 pages. It felt like I was reading the first draft.
