This A-Z of science fiction films includes entries on individual films, actors, directors, screenwriters and studios, as well as information on national traits and themes, and the novels and stories that have formed the basis of the genre. As well as dealing with blockbusters such as "Independence Day" and "Mars Attacks", the text also looks at early big budget productions such as "When Worlds Collide" and "2001", the inept classics of Ed Wood, Hammer films and the early work of John Carpenter.
This is a tricky one to rate - its basically yet another A - Z of science fiction - and sadly the issue I have with all of these is that as soon as they are printed they automatically become dated. Consigning themselves to obsolescence almost immediately. There is how ever a redeeming feature of this particular version. The book has various aspects - from titles, directors and notable actors all get their own entries which are also alphabetically listed. However this rather unique approach is soon over run by the sarcasm and in some cases petty comments the write of the entries feels are needed. Just because they may not like them does not mean I should not.
