In Lilurrian, one of the eight elf worlds, tree spirits and elves live in harmony with nature in a beautiful forest. The Great Library, the centre of elf learning and culture, lies at its heart. When the Navigator sets out to mine the crystals of Lilurrian, the whole forest is under threat of destruction. How can Agnil, the half-elf, prevent this disaster? Who is the Navigator and what does he really want?
Susan Navas is the author of the "Agnil’s Worlds" series of children’s books. Born in London, Susan has three grown up children and is a former primary school teacher. After years of helping children learn to write, she decided to write a book or two of her own. These days, Susan divides her time between Cambridgeshire and Andalucia. Susan is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI).
Agnil's adventures continue as she is called to help rescue the Elven world of Lilurrian from the evil machinations of "The Navigator" Once again Susan Navas effortlessly weaves real-life issues into Agnil's fantasy adventures, mineral exploitation, deforestation and pollution - (echoes of what is happening now in the Amazon Rainforest) along with the dilemma of a child who just wants her parents to be together. A beautifully crafted and illustrated children's story, full of pace, drama and action. Ideal for 8 to 10 year olds and for reading out-loud. Keep writing Susan, we all gunning for Agnil and the continued survival of all eight of the Elven worlds!
Another exciting adventure in the Agnil's World series. Once again, Agnil is called upon to help the elves and she joins forces with old friends to face a new enemy...the evil Navigator. She also has her own problems to deal with and just when she thinks she's thought of the perfect solution, she discovers who her father's new friend is! Told with humour but with strong characters and a powerful message too, I think Agnil and The Tree Spirits is ideal for children aged about 6-10 years to read alone, and for younger children if being read to. Highly recommended.
My grand nieces love all of these books. They enjoyed following Agnil's adventures as she discovered her exciting worlds. They liked the way she solved problems and learned new things about herself and others. They want to read more of Agnil's explorations. Great fun! Highly recommended!
A superb story, empathetically written with action adventure, heroic behaviour and fighting to save the environment from damage by mining, this book is another riveting adventure for young Agnil, this time involving her visiting a different elfin world which is being threatened by 'the Navigator'. He is destroying the beautiful world, polluting rivers, chopping down trees, killing wildlife in his quest for more of the very special crystals only found on this planet. You'll have to read it yourself to find out who she works with and what happens in this, the third book in the series!
Sue's writing draws you into the story, explaining the issues in ways that children will easily relate to. Teachers could easily use this to help them raise environmental issues with children, helping them develop their understanding of the impact on the environment of the actions of themselves and others. It also explores the desire of children to have their parents together in a considerate manner as Agnil tries to plan to get her parents reunited . . . . Read the book to find out what happens :)
I have no hesitation in recommending you to escape into this new magical world with Agnil, meet some characters from the earlier books and some new ones in this latest adventure. I'll have to wait for the next book in the series to be published, I have no doubt it will be equally enthralling!
I just finished reading the 'Agnil's Worlds' series by Susan Navas. There are four books in this series all aimed at seven to ten year old children. All four books are very engaging and enjoyable to read. I think children aged between seven in ten will love them. My personal favourite is the third book Œ'Agnil and the Tree Spirits' which cleverly mixes adult ideas about the environment in a children's book.
What I liked most about all four books was the sense of wonder they evoked. The characters are also very well drawn. The author is a former primary school teacher and her years of contact with young children have clearly given her the right experience to write children's books. It is perhaps this experience as a teacher which has kept the author's childlike sense of wonder alive and enabled her to write such books that engage that same sense of wonder in children. The illustrations fitted perfectly with the stories and were appropriately placed. The books are all very well laid out and attractive. I am very happy to recommend the Œ'Agnil's Worlds' series to any parent of children aged between seven and ten.
This book, the 3rd in the Agnil's Worlds series - did not disappoint - I love the way the Author Susan Navas writes - It's fantastic make-believe combined with 'real-life' issues - clever and great for keeping youngsters captivated - they get the 'best of both worlds' with this wonderful series. About Agnil who is half human half Elf and her 'adventures' in the world of Lilurrian - Ideal for 7-10 year olds. I bought all 4 in the series in paperback - they are very well presented - just right in my opinion. I am so looking forward to reading these to my grandchildren - I should also like to add they are suitable for 59 year olds too!... I am feeling grateful that I have Book 4 in the Series still to read. I am very happy to recommend this Series.
