Alison's parents emigrated to Australia, in mysterious circumstances, when she was six years old. Now, her parents dead, she is back to look after her sick Grandmother. Gran hints at secrets, but dies suddenly before they can be told. Alison returns to the little Dorset village where she had lived as a young child, hoping to find answers to the mystery. Elizabeth Margaret Smith was born on 5 December 1930 in Reading, Berkshire, England, UK. She started to work in a library at 20, and met her future husband at Library School, and worked as a librarian. During her first two years of marriage they lived in USA. They had four children. She was vice-president of the Romantic Novelists' Association and she was the acting Membership Secretary of the RNA. She lived in her native Reading until her death in 2006.
