About the author

ARUP KUMAR DUTTA is a fulltime author and freelance journalist from Assam in North-East India who has attained international recognition. A prolific and versatile writer and scholar, during a span of five decades he has written short-fiction, long-fiction, non-fiction, satires, newspaper editorials, articles and columns, as well as books for young adults. So far he has written 18 books for adults and 17 adventure novels for young people. He has been not only acknowledged as a pioneer in English writing in the North-East, but also as a writer who has spent a lifetime familiarizing the rest of India about the history and culture of this region.

I read it when I was ten. My school library restricted the books according to age, and the only books I had access to earlier were too childish and silly to leave any favourable impression at all.

Then I read this and I was amazed. I discovered that a book could show me pictures in my head, and that mere words could form a gripping story. What followed was a life-long passion for reading.

از این کتاب فهمیدم که هندی‌ها علاوه بر اینکه در صنعت سینما به شدت و خارج از اندازه از مبالغه و تخیلاتِ بی‌منطق استفاده می‌کن، در نویسندگی هم ظاهرا همین رویه رو دارن! یک قصه‌ی مثلا جنایی ـ پلیسی که به بدترین شیوه و غیر قابل باورترین حالت ممکن پرداخت شده. تقریبا می‌تونم بگم هیچ جای اثر گره یا تعلیقی که هیجان منِ خواننده رو برانگیخته کنه وجود نداشت
