I knew of Lightoller and his exploits on the Titanic, and quite thought that would be the thrust of the narrative. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. Yes, the White Star liner is of course a significant part, but the extraordinary life led previously and indeed afterwards is spell binding. They simply don’t make men like Lightoller any more. It was a wonderful read and would recommend it to anyone.
