Before Hercule Purr-row graduated to solving murders, he had to start small. Teaming up with his human librarian Penny Lane, they made sure the Venice Point Library in Guilford, Connecticut was crime free and running smoothly. At least, that was the plan.
But between missing sheet music , a sabotaged garden program, and a colony of kleptomaniac squirrels, Hercule has his paws full proving himself worthy of the title "Library Detective." With help from handsome veterinarian Paul Harrison and a cast of quirky patrons, Penny and Hercule must solve these library mysteries before the board decides a cat has no place among the stacks.
This charming prequel novella to the Case Files of Hercule Purr-row series introduces ten mini mysteries about Guilford, Connecticut's favorite feline detective, and shows how a stray cat with a nose for trouble became an indispensable part of small-town library life.
As a cat person, I enjoyed the quirky character of Hercule the feline detective. The author did a good job of keeping him cat-like while also presenting his point of view. The mysteries were endearing and pleasant to solve.
Librarian Penny Lane is surprised when a stray cat walks into the Venice Point Library. He’s really cute and Penny wants him to be the library cat. Unfortunately, her boss isn’t quite as thrilled and wants the library's board to make the decision.
In the meantime, the stray - now named Hercule Purr-row - finds himself playing library detective as strange things start happening. From missing music sheets to squirrels secretly taking up residence in the library, Hercule is kept quite busy.
This is a charming prequel which introduces Hercule and Penny. I loved them right from the start. Of course, I’m always partial to kitty stories and this is a fun one. There are no murders in this book. Just several assorted mysteries for Hercule to figure out and he handles himself in grand style.
Hercule doesn’t verbally communicate with the humans, but the reader will hear exactly what Hercule thinks of each case, as well as the humans involved
I was not familiar with this author, but she’s now on my list and I’d love to read more of this series. I see there are a couple more books and I will try them out.
This is a sweet novella and a delightful way to spend an afternoon.
Several short stories turned into a continuation of the journey of Hercule. Penny was trying to find Hetcule a home or his home. Miranda gave her 3 weeks to do so. During in those weeks, there were mysteries that Hercule helped her solve. Sweet stories and some heartwarming endings. Quick read that'll leave you smiling at the end of the book.
A HUNTING IN VENICE is an adorable collection of short cozy mysteries solved by Hercule Purr-row, the Library Detective. Hercule is assisted by Penny, a young, kind hearted librarian and a host of local friends of the library. I enjoyed every paragraph of this lovely book.
