**Trigger Warning:** This book contains themes of abuse and bullying that may be triggering for some readers.

Swish is a fast-paced young adult supernatural romance. The author, Tom, has crafted a captivating story filled with unexpected twists, featuring fallen angels, demons, prophecies, secrets, and intense drama. It offers something for everyone, making it enjoyable not just for young adults but for readers of all ages, including myself.

The protagonist, Abigail Lewis, is trapped in a nightmare of abuse and bullying. Thankfully, she has her best friend, Sam, by her side. Sam is a fun character who deeply admires horror writer Stephen King, and together they navigate their status as outcasts in school.

The plot thickens when two fallen angels enter the scene—Archangel Michael and Lucifer. One angel is there to protect Abigail from harm, while the other seeks to either harm her or persuade her to join his side, all in an effort to thwart a looming prophecy. Despite being the devil, Lucifer provides moments of humour that remind me of Tom Ellis's portrayal of the character in the show Lucifer, which I love.

Overall, Swish is a story rich in heart and soul, featuring characters that feel authentic and relatable. It's a perfect choice for fans of other supernatural stories and TV series like Fallen, Touched, and Lucifer, though it caters to a younger audience as it falls into the young adult category.

Swish is a gripping supernatural romance perfect for fans of YA and Twilight. Out this October!

The story follows Abigail Lewis, a girl with a traumatic past, who’s living through abuse and bullying. Her only friend is Sam, a Stephen King fan. Both outcasts at their school - could things get any worse?

Enter the mysterious and gorgeous Mike. Who seems to just drop out of the sky. There is something about him —something otherworldly. Probably because he is an angel. Soon, Abby is drawn to Mike. And, clearly, there is a purpose for Mike being there. Could it be connected to her past?

The story is fast-paced with twists. You will be drawn in and not want to put this one down. Especially when Mike's brother, Lucifer, arrives, a fallen angel. A demon out to get Abby.

A tale of good vs. evil right until the end! Loved it.

I know this will sound strange - but I was really drawn to this by the front cover image that looked dark and forboding.

If you don't already know, I have a fear of birds - black ones especially - but I think that's a big draw when looking for something a little scary for a great spooky season read!?

I actually took a little to really get into this one - but I think the introduction to Abigail's past needed to be there.

I immediately felt for her and everything that she had been through and was still is going through with her uncle.

When the mysterious Mike appeared from nowhere, we just knew that there was something about him and I loved the way that the relationship between him and Abigail developed over time.

I didn't find this too spooky as such, but loved the supernatural elements and that fight between good and evil that carried through the storyline.

The characters were well drawn and developed and I'm wondering whether this might become a series later?

Once the story got going, I was completely sucked in and raced through the rest of the book.

This was fast-paced and twisty right to the end.

This was really well written and I'd definitely be keen to read more from this series and author in the future.

At the first glance of the cover, I was intrigued and had to pre order this. This was "Carrie" meets "Twilight" with some old school retro vibes. In other words right up my street.

To own the truth, stories about demons and angels are not normally what I would read but the cover and blurb had me ready to dive in and I was sold from the get go.

Abby was very relatable to me and I found her engaging and likable which I love in a protagonist. As well as the overall theme of good and evil, this delivered found family, friendship, forgiveness, redemption and a beautiful love story.

I have a strong faith and I found this quite a thought provoking read. It was a unique concept which made it stand out all the more and it inevitably showed how evil has a pre-determined way of wreaking havoc in lives. However, good can overcome evil as long as the right decisions are made.

I was just left with one question... is there more to come? I hope so!

I loved buddy reading with my lovely friend and I'm excited to read more by Tom Carter!

I was sent a copy of Swish to read and provide an honest review.

This book took a little to build up and I must admit I struggled to remain interested for the plot to develop. With that said I did enjoy the premise of the story.
But for me it was over described in places. Personally as a reader I like to be guided by the story and use my imagination and dive into another world. This writing style felt a little too structured in the way it was conveyed. That you were meant to see a certain way not interpret it. While that might work for many in storytelling I feel it didn’t work here.

The elements and characters were good. However more development of some areas could have been beneficial to the story. Bringing detail to the important moments rather than the above mentioned over description in areas.

If you enjoyed Hush Hush, then you’ll probably enjoy this read.

Swish by Tom Carter was a dark, emotional ride with a supernatural twist that kept me hooked. Abby’s story is intense—she’s dealing with trauma, loss, and some seriously creepy forces. I really liked how the book blended real-life struggles with paranormal elements, especially when Mike shows up and things start getting even more mysterious.

The fallen angels and the haunted house vibes gave the story a spooky edge, and the emotional depth made it more than just a horror read. Abby’s strength and growth throughout the book were easy to root for, and the tension kept building in a way that made it hard to put down.

If you’re into YA paranormal stories with a mix of heart and horror, Swish is definitely worth checking out. I’m curious to see what else Tom Carter has written—this one left me wanting more.

This book is a masterpiece and a must read! If you enjoy fallen angels and other supernatural forces struggling to keep the balance in the struggle between good and evil, this book is for you! I was amazed with how eloquently the author was able to make the reader experience each feeling the characters encountered throughout the novel. The authors writing style is easy to follow but also extremely unique. He was able to touch on some very difficult subjects and did a phenomenal job explaining how the characters maneuvered through them. I enjoyed the many plot twists and mysteries that kept me on my toes wanting more! The only thing thing that I would have liked to see is the main character being a little older due to a certain “prophecy” in this story. Other than that, I absolutely loved this book! I hope there is a sequel and if/ when there is one, I will be snagging my copy! I give this book a 4.9/5 stars and am looking forward to other adventures from this author! Fans of HUSH, HUSH, Fallen and Touched will adore this book! Definitely check out Swish if you haven’t already!

An easy 5 stars!

This was something slightly different to the genre of books I’m used to reading, however I absolutely loved it!

There was a great prologue at the start that did a great job of setting up the story and had me gripped from the first page! I also really loved the writing, it was beautiful yet emotional at the same time. 🥲
Reading about Abigail’s abusive uncle really makes you hate him throughout too!

I loved the mystery surrounding Mike’s character as well, trying to decide if he was good/evil whilst reading made the book a joy to read. There were some good twists woven throughout too! Some of them I didn’t see coming! 😲

I adored the heartfelt and satisfying conclusion, it wrapped things up perfectly. Highly recommend this one!

This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review. Thanks so much to the author, Tom Carter.

This was a really intriguing and enjoyable novel. The plot definitely started quite slowly and it took me a little while to become really engaged, but once the pace started to pick up I was totally invested. The main character, Abigail, endured a lot during her life and through the course of this book and it was interesting to see just how much her character developed over time. Mike was a fun character and they played well off of each other.

I did also find that in some sections of the book, the writing became a little too detailed and spent a lot of time caught up in moments that didn’t particularly add anything to the story. I think it would have benefitted the flow of the storyline if there was a little less description and information in those sections.

Overall, this was a really interesting and entertaining story and nothing seemed predictable which I appreciated! The mystery of it kept me really engaged and the ending seemed very fitting and not rushed.

Here is my review for Swish by Tom Carter

I absolutely loved this supernatural story which included angels and a young child who grew up with her uncle because her mum died in a car accident. He begrudgingly collected her from a children’s home when he would rather have left her there as when he saw her, she was just staring into space, unblinkingly. Eleven years later, Abigail’s life really is the pits living with her uncle Tom. She is physically abused by her alcoholic uncle, has to do chores around the farmhouse, cook him breakfast before school, her clothes don’t fit properly but her uncle doesn’t buy her new ones and she is bullied at school since they moved to Harton six months ago. Then Mike arrives one night when she is at her safe place away from her raging drunk uncle. She sees him across the lake and at first is uneasy that someone has found her but then when she sees his face she feels safe. When he leaves she tries to trace his exit trail but that doesn’t work. The next morning she misses the school bus again! As she is walking to school she hears a loud engine behind her and it turns out to be Mike so he gives her a lift so she isn’t late. In the school carpark, the only free space is next to Brad’s truck so Mike pulls in. Abby immediately tells him to park elsewhere knowing what Brad is like but Mike isn’t listening to her. Mike gets out and takes no notice of Brad which he doesn’t like. He gets Mike’s attention but the guy’s seem to get into a staring contest without realizing a big crowd is now watching. Abby doesn’t know what is going on but she hasn’t seen anything like it with Brad before. Then it stops suddenly with Mike picking up his things and pushing through the crowd. Abby caught Mia looking at her so she took off too. Whatever that was, she needed answers. I was hooked by this delicious dark engaging story right from the start of the book. The author manages to write this story in such a way that describes everything so well and in such detail. It made me feel like I was seeing this story unfold in my mind like a film as I was reading it. It was superbly written, well plotted and excellently thought out. The characters seem so realistic with flawed personalities in some of them and they are well described to be recognisable. The synopsis drew me to read this story and I was thrilled to read. It was definitely a book that matched my tastes. It’s the first time I have read this author but I hope to read more of his books in the future.

THOUGHTS

This book was sent to me by the author and I loved every minute of it and didn't want it to end. It had everything I look for in a paranormal romance; a cute couple, lots of drama/angst, a badass female protagonist, amazing fight scenes, lots of feels, references to some of my favourite books and shows, there was also a lot of clever plot twists too.

Our female protagonist is Abigail, a seventeen-year old girl, who lost her mother in a car crash at a young age. She lives with her abusive uncle, and is constantly tormented by her peers at school. She has one best friend, Sam, who she's got a lovely friendship with. She also suffered from nightmares, that soon became reality, when she was introduced to two brothers; one who made her life worth living and one who was determined to ruin it.

Mike, was the good brother, who was really the archangel Michael, who was sent down to earth to protect Abby. He developed feelings for her and tried his best to keep her safe from his brother, who was trying to harm her, to stop a prophecy from coming true. He also tried to help his brother redeem himself.

Luc/Lucifer, a fallen angel/devil, was determined to stop the prophecy by either harming Abby or getting her to join him. He was willing to harm her loved ones if she refused. I found Luc to be extremely entertaining to read about, as he reminded me a lot of Tom Ellis, from the TV show Lucifer.

I would definitely recommend this book, as it was funny, angsty, creepy and had me hooked from start to finish! I can't wait to read more books by this author in the future.

FAVOURITE QUOTES

"A demon?" I say, frowning. A smirk playing on my lips, disbelief dripping from my words like ice cream from a cone.

"If there's one thing I've learned from The Master of Horror himself," she says, patting her Stephen King book as she talks, her eyebrows cocked. "It's that people are not always what they make out to be." ~ Abby / Sam

"Why didn't you tell me when we first met?"

"Really? 'Oh, hey I'm Mike. I'm an angel of the lord by the way.' You'd have run a mile. Plus, I was hoping I wouldn't have to tell you anything. That I could do what I was here to do and you'd be none the wiser."

"And what is it you've come here to do?"

"Protect you." ~ Abby / Mike

"You like Harry Potter?" I ask, confused.

"Who doesn't? Where's the truck?"

I point down the road, still trying to process the fact that angels watch TV and are fans of Harry Potter. Luc would have definitely been in Slytherin , I think to myself as we start to walk up the road to the truck. ~ Abby / Mike

"You like Mary Poppins?"

"Abby, I do like to watch films," Mike answers, his arms folded.

"It's just . . . it seems odd. Angels chilling out with a bucket of popcorn watching Mary Poppins."

Mike doesn't answer, he just rolls his eyes. ~ Abby / Mike

I turn around and look over my shoulder to find Mia, standing by the entrance door, her hand on the fire alarm. She smiles at me and shrugs. "You wanted everyone out."

I smile back, even in the current situation, I can't help it. "Thank you. Now follow me," I shout in Mia's direction, hoping she hears. ~ Mia / Abby

"What was that thing?" Mia asks, quieter this time.

"What thing?" I ask, playing stupid and not remotely putting it off.

"Come on, you know what thing. The thing that was kicking Mike's ass. It was like something out an episode of Supernatural. I kept expecting Jensen Ackles to come running through the door. Thinking about it, that wouldn't have been half bad." Mia says, looking off into the distance at an imaginary Jensen. ~Mia / Abby

Abigail has never had very much luck in her life. She doesn’t know what caused the accident that killed her mother; all she knows is that it led her to live with her uncle Tom, and he has made no secret of the fact that he hates her and everything that she is. Facing his abuse every day, only to go to school and face the torment of her peers, she is pretty sure that she is destined to be without happiness in her life. But then Mike shows up. Her gorgeous, mysterious neighbour, who for some reason seems completely into her, regardless of her obvious social standing. But the more she learns about Mike, the more she realises he might not be what he seems, and begins to understand that there are forces at work that she could hardly begin to imagine.

Wow, I loved this. Reminded me so much of a book called Hush Hush that I read when I was younger. I really liked that series then, and this book had so many of those elements that I absolutely adored. Love myself a little ambiguity around my love interests, and Mike had this in droves, all the way down the twisty turny paths this book took you on, you were wondering what his true intentions were? I loved Abigail; I thought she was a great protagonist, and I was rooting for her throughout. Although my girly did deserve a break, being at rock bottom with her, watching her go through so much crap was a difficult read, so praise to Carter for writing a character so convincingly that I was instantly drawn to her. To be honest, that goes for all the characters, every one of them was so well written, even the ones I absolutely hated and wanted to reach into the book to throttle. And oh my gosh, that ending! Some of the reveals! I was not prepared.

I think anyone who loves themselves a paranormal romance with plenty of mystery, twists and turns, and a mysterious love interest who gives off a dangerous vibe, then this is the book for you. People who were fans of books like Hush Hush, Shiver, Fallen and Twilight when they first came around will absolutely love this.

Swish by Tom Carter

5 out of 5 stars

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. The author does have a way with words. I was drawn in from the beginning and didn't want it to end. The writing is freaking fantastic and the characters are easily loveable. If you like ‘Supernatural’ then you will like this book.

Abby is left at a home for orphans and her uncle comes to claim her. What he does next isn't what you would think. He becomes violent. You'll have to read to find out more on that. She isn't exactly the most liked girl at school and it doesn't help that she misses the bus because of her uncle. When she meets Mike and he asks her to go to a party with him she questions him with: “What’s your story? You appear out of nowhere and I don’t know anything about you. I shouldn’t have come here really. You could be an axe murderer. You’re not an axe murderer, are you?”

Luc (Cute name for Lucifer I think) appears out of nowhere. Out of the blue, or was it? He does something he thinks is justified, but it's not. He tells Abby this: “He hurts you, no? Regularly. I thought I would put a stop to it for you. It was obvious Michael wasn’t going to. Someone as important as you shouldn’t be treated like that. You’re not just some common human like the rest of these hairless apes. I didn’t want you hurt anymore, Abigail.”

Mike doesn't just seem to find Abby at the lake. He was there for her. To protect her. From what is unclear for most of the book. When it becomes clear she has questions. Understandable, right? You would think, but the questions lead to more. After almost dying and admitting what he is he tells her: “You’re right. It’s time. For me to protect you, you need to know it all.”

Swish by Tom Carter
4 Stars

If you’re into YA stories that mix real-life struggles with a touch of the supernatural, Swish might be right up your alley. The story follows Abby Lewis, a teenager who’s been through more than her fair share of trauma — her mom died when she was six, and now she’s stuck living with her alcoholic uncle on a farm. She’s bullied at school, haunted by nightmares, and trapped in a life that feels completely hopeless… until Mike shows up. Mike isn’t your average new guy. There’s something otherworldly about him — mysterious, protective, and definitely not human. As Abby starts to uncover who (or what) he really is, she’s pulled into a battle that goes way beyond the usual high-school drama. Angels, demons, Lucifer — it’s all on the table, and somehow, Abby is at the center of it.

What I liked most about Swish is how the author balances heavy emotional moments with fast-moving supernatural action. Abby’s pain feels real, and her growth from victim to someone with power and purpose gives the story real heart. The world-building is fun too — you get that familiar “good vs. evil” vibe, but it’s grounded by Abby’s very human struggles. If you’re looking for a story that combines the pain of a troubled real world (abuse, bullying, loss) with the sweep of supernatural destiny and a romance that matters (rather than just a side-plot), then Swish is a very good pick. I recommend keeping some time blocked out when you start it — the story is engaging enough to want to finish in one go. It’s emotional, dramatic, and a little addictive — the kind of story you can easily lose a weekend to. If you like a mix of heartbreak, romance, and supernatural twists, Abby and Mike’s story will definitely pull you in.

This novel gripped my soul by the throat from the off and refused to let go. It’s darkly cinematic and deeply emotional—a coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of supernatural warfare. Yet it’s anchored in the raw, painful humanity of a girl who’s already endured far too much.

I couldn't help but ache for Abby Lewis. Her life is a patchwork of trauma, isolation, and fear—each nightmare feeling like a prelude to something worse. Carter’s portrayal of abuse and hopelessness is unflinchingly real, but he balances it with a thread of divine tension: the arrival of enigmatic Mike, a figure whose presence blurs the line between salvation and danger. Their connection unfolds with aching tenderness and electric chemistry, a fragile hope flickering amid the darkness that is Abby's life.

The supernatural elements are masterfully woven—stepping into the narrative not as clichés but as forces testing the limits of faith, love, and endurance. Each scene crackling with intense clarity, from the quiet terror of the farmhouse to the breathtaking, otherworldly confrontations that follow.

What elevates Swish beyond your typical paranormal thriller is its emotional core. Beneath the battles lies a story about a broken girl reclaiming her strength, learning to trust again, and discovering that sometimes the light finds you in the darkest places.

Verdict: Swish is fierce, haunting, and unexpectedly redemptive—a supernatural thriller with a beating human heart. Tom Carter delivers an unputdownable debut that feels both epic and intimate, equal parts terror and transcendence.

A digital copy of this book was provided through Zooloo's Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

I hadn't paid any real attention to the cover and so I didn't notice the face before and now I've seen it, how friggin cool is that?

For me, the start of the book was a bit slow, with the status quo of the FMC not changing until around the 25% mark, so it really takes its time in settling you in with her world, fully establishing the relationships with the side characters she interacts with.

We get that angels vs demons, tale as old as time take on good vs evil, with arguably the biggest characters in fiction who are at the core of this trope. Like Eve in the garden, Abby has the OG temptation; choose good or evil - an actual snake even makes an appearance.

I liked the way Abby's character was established as strong and independent. Through hardship, grief, and abuse, she's come to rely on no-one but herself to persevere and get through. She actively demonstrates her own abilities throughout the story, which I think is something that gets lost in the likes of Twilight. She doesn't lose her identity in the midst of romance, she still retains her core character.

There's lots of cult media references too smattered throughout which I enjoyed.

The will-she/won't-she moment at the ends bring some great tension, setting up for an ending that teases for more.

I enjoyed reading this paranormal story. This is a new author for me which I enjoyed their creative writing skills that made the story pop throughout. I also enjoyed how their use of details made the story engaging and hard to put down. This is a story about Abby. Her mother was killed in an accident which left her having to move in with her uncle. Now she finds herself being abused by him and her nightmares have gotten worse but even more they feel realistic. When a mysterious boy shows up she feels maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel. She finds herself falling for him but also curious about him. As she enters a world of supernatural forces she faces saving herself and her new friend. I enjoyed Abby and the rest of the characters and how supportive they were to each other. They are strong, connectable and made the story easy to read. I enjoyed watching the growth of the plot which added to the entertainment value of the story. I found this book to be fast paced and one I enjoyed. I highly recommend this book.

Abigail is sent to live with her uncle Tom after her mother tragically passes away. Unfortunately Tom doesn't treat her well and he is often drunk. Abigail is a outcast and her only friend at school is Sam who is a major Stephen King fan. One day a angel arrives literally and his name is Mike and Abigail is instantly drawn to Mike. Things turn dicey when Lucifer who is Mike's cousin shows up and boy does he bring a lot of trouble with him. I haven't been so in love with a story like this for a long time. In fact I think the last time was when Twilight came out. It's the type of book that I will be rereading again and again. The author has written a well established plot with twists to keep you on the edge and suspense that ties you into the book. I love how the characters are regular kids with supernatural powers. I am really really hoping that there is going to be a follow up because I am happy in love with Swish.

Swish by Tom Carter. This is a young adult, super natural romance. It's the story of Abby who has lost her mom and has been sent to live with her Uncle. He is very abusive and in turn she is an outcast at school so she gets bullied. She also has horrible nightmares and they continue to get worse and seem more real. Her best friend is Sam and they are outcasts together. Sam is obsessed with Stephen King and tries to emulate him as much as she can. Enter two archangels Lucifer and Michael, Michael tries to get Abby to do the right thing while Lucifer wants her to do bad thing. Swish By Tom Carter

Swish is a YA Super Natural Romance that will have you turning the pages till the end. Triggers Warning this story does contain some abuse and bullying that may be a trigger for some. This is a new author to me but I enjoyed their attention to detail along with fully developed characters that made the story pop off the pages. This is a story about Abby, she lost her mom in an accident and is sent to l8ve with her uncle Tom. Uncle Tom is very abusive towards Abby and the nightmares she’s having are feeling more and more real. Things start to feel better when a mysterious boy shows up. She finds herself falling for him but at the same time very curious about him and his secret powers. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. Im looking forward to reading more from this Author.

Tom did a great job at creating this story. Especially for young adult. It's hard to come into a genre where you have big name hitters. The story starts out strong and the pacing was amazing. I was hooked right from the start. You are introduced to this tragic story when yo meet Abby. Abby has been through a lot. Her drunkard abusive uncle is all she has, and she is plagued by nightmares that never seem to stop. Moving to a new place has only increased their frequency, but their intensity. She can't quite help but feel like there is an ominous feeling that's just lurking under the surface. Just waiting for Abby to slip and turn her world upside-down. Enter Mike. He has entered her world and there is something about him that seems otherworldly. Not quite right. For a debut novel this was excellent! I look forward to reading more of his books!

At the tender age of six Abigail Lewis lost her parents in a car accident. She ended up in the care of her uncle Tom and has no memory of what life was like before coming into his care. It's been 11 years since the tragedy and Abigail's life is not the greatest. She has always had nightmares and they have gotten worse since they moved to a farm. It feels like something evil is on the way until Mike arrives. He seems ethereal to her as he pretty much came out of nowhere. Mike takes a special interest in her and she is of course drawn to him. He has this aura about him that screams not of this world and she notices that he seems to have advanced abilities. Soon she is questioning whether he is there to help her or harm her. As a fair warning to anyone wanting to read this story it does touch on alcoholism and abuse which may be triggering. Overall this is a well put together story.

When you think of supernatural romances Twilight immediately springs to mind...I enjoyed Swish more if I'm honest!

Sometimes a book comes along that deserves to be devoured in one sitting...this was that book for me.

I WAS OBSESSED!

My heart hurt for Abby. She'd had so much angst and trauma in her short life...the poor girl needed a break...

Enter Mike and Luc...

Mike was the archangel whose purpose was to protect Abby. His brother Luc(ifer) a fallen angel who's purpose is to cause hell on earth for Abby...The struggle for balance between good and evil was real!

I loved this book so much! The world building, the characters, the plot!

If Dogma, Lucifer, and Michael had a book baby this would be it!

Swish by Tom Carter
🌟🌟🌟🌟

YA book that i really enjoyed and devoured in 1 sitting

The story of Abigail (Abby) who is orphaned and taken in by Uncle Tom. A man who bullies, belittles and beats her. She is a target at school and only has her friend Sam to rely on. Abby is strong and doesn't let the bullies get to her.

Enters Mike, a breath of fresh air, and someone who actually likes Abby. He opens her eyes to how life can be.....until Mike's brother Luc(ifer) joins the school. Is Uncle Tom really as bad as she thinks? Can Abby find the truth?

What follows is a story which reminds you of twilight and terminator! The ending is pleasing and I'm hoping there is a 2nd book in the making!!

Thank you @zooloosBT For letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Swish is a young adult fantasy genre. The front cover is mysterious, and I do like that because from looking at it, it gives me good vibes, and I don’t know what to expect with the book. Which I like. The story is about Abigail, who has not had a great life so far until she meets Mike. The story was easy to get into and very fast-paced, which I enjoyed. I did like Abigail and connected with her from the start, and I did feel for her due to what she has been through in her life. I was hooked and gripped by the story straightaway and found it very difficult to put down because I was engrossed in the book. Fantastic read. Loved the plot.5 stars.

Swish by Tom Carter is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of his stories- but the blurb intrigued me enough to want to discover what lay between the covers. It proved to be an engrossing YA paranormal romance - blending angels, demons, action, adventure, mystery, danger, drama, high stakes, good vs evil, and a bit of the fantastical that kept me engaged right from the start. A richly woven tale woven around some ancient prophecies, which created a world that was not only intriguing, but also felt quite immersive.
The story was a little slow to get going, as the initial chapters took some time to build momentum, but the payoff is worth it as the plot thickens and the stakes get higher.
Happy Reading…

As soon as I read the description for this book I knew it was one I had to read. I needed to find out what was going on and what else there was to know about the characters. Although it is quite a slow start to the book, I was drawn into the story and, before I realised it, was hooked on what I was reading. I through the story was intriguing and quite exciting from start to finish.
I loved the mix of characters in the book. They each brought something different to the story and for me are what kept my interest the most. There was obviously more going on that initially portrayed and I really enjoyed getting to see how it all played out. This is a great story but and author that is completely new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.

This was my first read by this author and I couldn't put it down! Abigail is relatively new to town and the target of the school bullies. She was orphaned in a car crash when she was 6 that she can't remember and taken in by an abusive uncle. Suddenly, Mike, Greek-god lookalike, arrives in town and Abby's world changes completely.

Dark at points, but funny and witty. Only thing that really bugged me was that a southern, Texas girl kept referencing her mom as 'mum' and the ground as the floor- I had to back up my reading several times and make sure I didn't miss something and we hadn't moved back inside when I thought we were outside- nope, just the ground is the floor. weird haha

Overall, good read and I will def read more by Tom Carter.

With an absolutely gorgeous cover, great sounding blurb and then that prologue at the start, that had me hooked right into this book.
A stunning read, I’m in love with this book I was completely absorbed into the story and writing throughout. Mysterious characters, emotional themes and a thrilling storyline.
Although I was more than happy with the ending it’s crying out for another book telling more of Abby’s journey.
A fantastic read, one I highly recommend
