Thank you for sharing your stories, your experiences, and yourself with readers like myself.
I work in healthcare, and after reading your book I am already finding myself interacting with my patients differently.
It’s so easy to become jaded and to go through the motions each day as a result of the unfortunate “business” side of healthcare. Before you realize it, the compassion you entered the field with has faded, and you move from patient to patient simply to complete a task in an appropriate amount of time. There is such a fine line at times. You have to be efficient, but you can’t be too efficient, otherwise you lose the personal/human component that is so necessary in quality patient care. Move too slow, and you might begin to appear to your co-workers that you’re taking long simply to avoid work.
It feels like such a mess at times, but the good continues to outweigh the bad, a sentiment you thankfully found to be true yourself that was reiterated throughout your book.
Your book has reminded me that it doesn’t take some huge act of kindness to make a difference in someone’s life. In fact it is more often the small acts of genuine love and compassion that leave people feeling they have had an actual encounter with someone who cares.
Thank you for inspiring me to do more with the amazing opportunity I have been given to care for others. I hope I never become so entrenched in a system that I lose my ability to see someone as a person who has been fearfully and wonderfully made, and not just numbers on a chart or schedule.
Being a caregiver, and needing cared for are two inevitable roles in life each person is destined to experience to some degree. I am inspired to do my part now and later in life however I can as a caregiver, and hope that when my time comes, I will have the people I love around me to help and care for me during those last difficult steps in this world.

Recommended by my daughter, who is a former student of Mr. Cornett’s.
I highly recommend this to anyone, regardless of the stage of life you’re in. It’s a book worth rereading every so often to remind us to love, to be kind, and connect with those around you.
Individuals do not have to be in your life for long to have a profound impact. Your patients and families are blessed through the care and presence of you and your team during the most difficult times of their lives.
Thank you Matthew for sharing a piece of your journey with your readers.

Excellent read. It was very thoughtful and thought-provoking. I never planned to read this book while simultaneously my Father-in-law was in his own journey with Hospice, but it brought greater clarity to our situation and caused me to take hold of all of the moments we were walking through. This book will have you both shedding a tear and smiling from ear to ear.

Ooh my heart! Matt, you are such an inspiration to me 11 years after being in your senior class. I don’t think I’ve ever cried during 135 pages of a book in my life. Your honesty and heartache with each patient shows me what a true heart you have. Proud and honored to have known you basically my whole life from upward with Katie through my high school years!
