An answered prayer. An unforeseen betrayal. A family healed by grace. Amara and Ejike Dike had been married for six glorious years. Amara was convinced Ejike, was the perfect gift from God. Loving, charming and very easy on the eyes. They had a beautiful life. Well, not so beautiful. Amara’s inability to bear children made her feel like a less than the perfect mate for her husband. Then after many years, God lifted her faith and had finally heard her cry. The Dikes couldn’t be happier. A surprise visit from Chinelo, Amara’s long lost cousin, turns Amara’s world upside down and threatens to turn her once-perfect existence into ashes. Ejike loved his wife with a passion. They shared a burning desire and faith in God that burned deep. However Chinelo’s appearance would open a Pandora’s Box that had purposely been kept shut. Faced with the loss of all she holds dear, Amara finds herself at crossroads. Would she lean on God’s sustaining grace to let go and travel the rocky path to forgiveness? Or would she throw everything to the wind and walk away? When You Let Go is a novel about people who know what the Word of God instructs but struggle with actually doing it when the chips are down

Unoma Nwankwor has written a fantastic story of love and betrayal, anchored by forgiveness. For, don't we struggle the most to forgive those nearest and dearest to us?
Amara and Ejike are the perfect couple: amazing chemistry, very good-looking, both successful in their chosen careers. There's only one blip on the horizon: they are childless. Still, that isn't a deal breaker for Ejike. Unlike most Nigerian men of his ilk, he shields his wife from family pressure and loves her wholly and completely.
A joyous surprise is in the works when a blast from the past threatens to destroy everything Amara and Ejike have built. Will they ever find a way to be happy again?
It is rare for me to empathize with the 'villain', but I did in this story, mostly due to Unoma's skill. She created characters who are three-dimensional - none perfect among them...all human...all real.
When You Let Go is a wonderful book, and I recommend it with no reservations whatsoever. Read this book! You'll thank me later.
On the outside, Amara and Ejike Dike seemed to have the perfect marriage but on the inside, the couple deals with the pain of being unable to bear a child to complete their family. Her childlessness causes Amara to question her marriage and her faith. Just when the couple thought God had finally answered their prayers of a baby, a bombshell is dropped into their life. Unfortunately, a very close family member of Amara is a part of the betrayal. With this shocking revelation, things start to spiral downhill in the Dike’s household and the couple is not sure they will be able to recover.
When You Let Go is a true testament of the power of God within ourselves and our marriage. Although, we are tested every day, it is up to us to lean on our faith to get through those difficult times and offer forgiveness to those who may have hurt us in the process. Amara and Ejike’s faith was tested throughout this novel but once they learned to put God at the forefront of their household, they were able to weather the storm.
When a couple gets married two individuals come together as one. Each of these individuals has an entire history and experience separate from the other. What happens when the past of one those individuals shows up in the happy life they’ve created and wreaks utter havoc? I’ll tell you what happens: all hell breaks loose and the fragility of faith is exposed. One thing I particularly enjoyed about When You Let Go is that strong faith does not equal perfection for any of the characters. They make mistakes. They try to cover those mistakes up. They hurt each other and let each other down. They lose a lot and fight to hold on to what they have left. Real life is messy and the heart of Christianity is to help make sense of the mess and offer beauty for ashes. Unoma Nwankwor paints a picture of faith at its best!
Letting go is not easy but When You Let Go room is made for God to restore, heal, and bless. I thoroughly enjoyed this sophomore novel by Unoma Nwankwor. The truth that love covers a multitude of sin was evident in the triangle of Amara, Ejike, and Chi. I felt the emotions of love, hurt, and joy experienced by Amara and Ejike. Fellow readers you will not be disappointed by this wonderful story of love and restoration. Great job Unoma. I look forward to your next release.
I really enjoyed this book. The power of forgiveness is not easy but it can he done. I loved how Amara walked through the pain and how Ejike stood firm as a man owning his stuff but not giving up. The story was well written and the flow from page to page kept me holding on to the end. This is my first read by Unoma Nwankwor and it will not be by last. I have two more by her to dive into. Excellent story of love, betrayal, and forgiveness. God is just that good.
When You Let Go is an excellent story of letting go of your fears, hurt, disappointment and pain and allowing God to do what only He can do. When adversity seems to rip your world apart, the peace of God will come in like a flood and give you an understanding that can't be explained. Unoma did an excellent job of telling the story of one families triumph over unimaginable odds. Bravo Unoma!
Having read Unoma Nwankwor's first novel An Unexpected Blessing, I knew I'd be in for a good read with this new offering, and I was right.
Amara Dike and her husband Ejike have a great marriage. The only bump in the road is their lack of children, and they're working on resolving that issue with all their might. Amara desperately wants to have her husband's baby, even though Ejike assures and reassures her that he loves her even if they're never able to have a baby together. Despite his reassurances, she hates that their infertility is her fault (a result of endometriosis) and secretly fears that he will stop loving her if she can't conceive.
Amara's cousin Chinelo has wanted Ejike for years. He told her in every language they both speak that he wasn't interested and she still pursued him like a hungry wolf chasing a sheep until just before Ejike and Amara got married. Amara hasn't seen Chinelo in years, but she suddenly shows up in Dallas all the way from their native Nigeria with her six-year-old son in tow. Amara was unaware that Chinelo was jealous of her, but Chinelo's motives emerge before long, and she drags the Dikes into her web of drama.
Amara and Ejike are Christians, but their faith is tested when Chinelo's motive for coming to Dallas is revealed. Amara is forced to put into practice every lesson she ever learned about dealing with unexpected trials- and about turning the other cheek as opposed to kicking someone's butt when they get on your last good nerve :-).
I enjoyed watching the twists and turns of this story as it unfolded, and, as with An Unexpected Blessing, I also enjoyed the author's giving us glimpses into Nigerian culture through the words and actions of the characters. This book is not only a good read, but a testament to the power of God to guide one through the worst of situations- if you let Him.
Kudos to Unoma Nwankwor for crafting another good read. I look forward to reading more of her work going forward.
This was my first time reading a Christian Fiction novel, and I enjoyed it.
The story starts off like a beautiful scene from the movie "Pleasantville." Amara and Ejike are a happily married couple. Everything is peachy about their relationship, except in Amara's "perfect" world, she feels she needs a baby to validate her as a woman and a wife, and to shake off the naysayers like her mother-in-law. I was anxious for the conflict to arrive since page-after-page this lovey dovey couple was so in love that it was darn near sickening! I thought to myself, 'honey ain't no couple is this perfect.' Soon enough the conflict pops off. The dark secret that Ejike kept hidden for years unveils its ugly head by way of an unexpected guest. Suddenly, their perfect little world is shattered. It was genius on the part of the Author Unoma Nwankwor that she stripped these characters to bare bones, and showed their imperfect human side during trials. Amara needed to break, and Ejike needed to take ownership of his truth. In the end, the lesson I learned from this book is that God is the one in control. We are always on "His" time and not the other way around. Despite how regular we may be in our service and worship to God, he is still the judge to make the call. He decides if the answer to our prayers is a 'yes' or 'no.' Sometimes God's 'yes' to our prayers and what we wish for is the very thing that's right in front of us. Yet, we have to be transformed in order to receive it, and to see and accept situations for what they are, and not how we wish them to be.
I look forward to reading more book by Unoma. She is a great writer and a good storyteller.
There are so many things that we desire, but truly God knows what is necessary and He will not give us what we are not ready for or what our hearts are not prepared for. Through the issues that each character struggled with we see God's divinity and sufficiency when they let go. Their plights prepared them for what they wanted. Even though Amara was the story's heroine each character had to learn to let go of some thing in order to grow and for God to operate freely in their lives. I love the characterization in the story. Each character had a clear motive, persona, and distinguishing mannerisms. When You Let Go is a great read that marries traditional Christian themes of forgiveness and surrender with splashes of Nigerian culture and a dash of romance.
“When You Let Go” holds your attention until the last page. It was wonderful to get a touch of the Nigerian culture while enjoying this romantic read. Unoma Nwankwor does an amazing job of conveying all of the emotions of the characters. This is an excellent story about love and forgiveness.
Amara and Ejike Dike seemingly had the perfect marriage, and they loved the Lord. Of course, here comes trials and tribulations brought about by a secret that Ejike kept from his wife. Without giving away too much, I must say that Chinelo, Amara’s cousin is a mess…so twisted. However, she makes the story even more compelling.
This was my first read from this author, and I can’t wait to check out her others books.
OMG my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last! I loved this read. This book told the story of forgiveness. Many times what we assume can lead to betrayal, deceit and bitterness. Always get on your knees n pray and seek wisdom and guidance. Amara and Ejike were a couple that loved God and each other but had one challenge. That challenge was a disgrace from their culture but not from Ejike. He loved his wife in spite of. This book, which I read in one sitting , was for encouragement to all who faces adversity in their marriage. I was in tears and recalled the prayers they prayed. I can't wait to read another one of this authors books. This blessed me!
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I truly enjoyed this book. Amara and Ejike have a good life and love one another. Amara is unable to conceive a child for her husband. Ejike tells Amara with or without children she is the love of his life. There are times in a person life when one has to let go. When we let go, we have to let God…He is the master and ruler!!!!! Excellent story!!!!
Love will always win is what comes to mind after reading this amazing story! I love that the story developed every character and despite loving God life has challenges that only God can truly bring us out of! But it’s not without our willingness to forgive and allow His love and His grace to overwhelm us! This is definitely a must read!
Another well written story with loveable characters by Mrs Nwankwor! Unlike her other novels this couple is already married and madly in love but are missing one thing! That one thing is what could break their marriage. The story is told from 3 point of views and beautifully shows what not dealing with secrets can do and how humbling love can be!
If u have not read this book or any of her books, run 🏃🏾♀️ and get started today! This author has me captivated with her writing, storyline and characters. The author has a genuine flair for relating the truth of God's Word. This book is entertaining, teaching, and real.
Amara and her husband are enjoying a good solid relationship. But having come from an African family, the fact they are still childless after years is a problem and causing stress for Amara. Ejike has a deep secret that is being brought to the light. He’s never mentioned his secret and has gotten on with his life. But will his gut wrenching secret destroy everything he has built with Amara?
Another wonderfully written Christian love story. It's about the good, bad and ugly of life but if you put your trust and Faith in God, He will surely see you through. He may not come when you want Him, but He is always an on time God.
This story is a hard read, but definitely worth it. God's grace covers a multitude of hurt. This book definitely shows His plan is not ours and we don't always understand. We just have to trust Him.
I enjoyed reading the story about the Dike's. This book is a reminder to those that we a have trials to endure, but with God's grace anything is possible.
