Six Years Six years after a gut-wrenching betrayal shattered her life, Auden Sterling finds herself attempting to rebuild her life far from her small hometown of Monroe, Louisiana. In Minneapolis, she’s found a semblance of peace, but the scars of her past still prevent her from embracing love or intimacy. As she continues her attempt to move on, an unexpected call shatters her fragile world.

Auden is thrust back into the turmoil she thought she had left behind. Alongside her grief, guilt washes over her as she learns of letters penned for her over the years, unopened and filled with unshared secrets.

Faced with the weight of unresolved emotions and the haunting question of what truly happened, Auden must return to Monroe, confronting the shadows of her past while seeking answers that could finally bring closure. But as she delves deeper into the secrets of her history, she must grapple with her trauma and decide whether she has the courage to confront the man who forever altered her life.

Can Auden find the strength to speak out about her pain and reclaim the life she longs to live? Or will the weight of her past continue to silence her? In this gripping exploration of friendship, betrayal, and the power of healing, Auden discovers that confronting her trauma is the first step toward finding her voice—and potentially, love.

Truly such a great read. Highlights so many sensitive and often taboo topics in such a gentle but very transparent and honest way. The author did a great job of describing the characters in a way that you couldn’t help but realize… “hey I know an Auden… or a Dec… or a Brad…” or I am an Auden or have felt like a Taylor. I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way too late most nights reading— highly recommend! A story of twists and turns and so many feelings but most importantly redemption. Just don’t stop telling 💛

I never expected this book to be a 5 star read for me. This book was much more than that. This book was one I could not put down. It really depicts what true healing can look like. “Never let a Brad silence you.” “Just don’t stop telling.”

What an emotional story! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to punch someone in the throat. This book had me in tears so many times and then just as quickly I was soooo mad at a character I could have kicked him straight in his imaginary face. If you want to feel something, you'll find that with this book!

Thank you to the author for the free review copy in exchange for an honest review.

I recently read Six Years, and I want to begin by saying how important and powerful this story is. The book deals with some very heavy and sensitive topics, including sexual assault, suicide, and abortion. It’s not an easy read, but it’s definitely an important one, especially during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Stories like this help us understand, reflect, and hopefully become more supportive and aware as a society.

The book follows Auden, a survivor of sexual assault, who returns to her hometown after six years following the heartbreaking suicide of her best friend, Taylor. Taylor had married Auden’s rapist and didn’t believe her story, and her letter to Auden after her death opens up a path for justice and healing.

Auden’s journey is painful, but also strong and inspiring. I appreciated how she tried to rebuild herself and finds her own strength. The book also touches on abortion and reproductive rights, as Auden makes the difficult decision to end the pregnancy that resulted from her assault. This part of the story felt real and respectfully written.

We also meet Asher, who becomes a steady presence in Auden’s life. Personally, I felt their chemistry wasn’t explored deeply enough like it felt a little underdeveloped, and I wish we got to see more of their emotional connection.

The ending was ABSOLUTELY satisfying tho.

Overall, I’d give it 3.5 ⭐. The message is powerful, and I’m really grateful I had the chance to read it. I think this is a book more people should pick up, especially this month. Thank you again to the author for trusting me with this story. 💜

Review TW: suicide

6 years ago today, my best friend took his life. It feels fitting that I finish this book today.

Auden graduated in 2017, and I did as well. While I personally haven’t experienced everything covered in this book, I personally know others who have. As a woman, I needed this book. As a mother, I needed this book. As a person who has lost a best friend to suicide, I needed this. As a person who has an estranged ex-best friend, I needed this.

Definitely read the content warning before reading, but I cannot recommend this read enough.

this is another book where I genuinely don't know how to rate it. I won it on a TikTok giveaway so shoutout to the author for that and I did mostly enjoy reading it. Auden and Asher's relationship was a bit odd, it wasn't bad but sometimes reading it felt just off? I did like the trauma representation and how Auden was very real and raw but it felt like the author forgot sometimes like her entire character?? I also just didn't really like the romance like ok it was cute but they had 5 DAYS together and were already planning and assuming they would get married and have kids. idk I think I just hate insta love. Asher was also lwk love bombing her and it threw me off when he would have sexual thoughts about her while she was sharing her sexual trauma. Also I think the author doesn't grasp how long 6 years is. in reality Auden did not know Taylor AT ALL anymore. with mental health struggles and that much of time Taylor would have been an entirely different person so Auden really had no idea what she was like besides her memories but she wanted to do allat. the ending was also corny and I can't think of any other ending I would have wanted but it wasn't that. So, overall I could appreciate the story, the mental and religious community struggles were handled nicely although I wish touched on more, and Auden as a representation for many women. I wish it had less romance and more of the former, but it absolutely wasn't bad and was way better than expected. also brads chapters?? omg they genuinely made me sick to my stomach

This was a 4.5 star read for me-

Trigger warning, this book dives into Sexual Assault, Abortion and Suicide. If these topics are hard for you to read, please do not go reading this book.

This book was beautifully written and I cant believe it is the author's first book. It was easy to read, fast pace, with enough mystery, love, hate, family drama & suspense. You will find characters well developed, some are likeable and relatable and some are not "Brad".

The story will definitely keep you engaged and guessing what is to come next. Immediately grabbed my attention and it was hard to put down, it had me in a roller coaster of emotions.

I give it a 4.5 because I was not a fan of the insta love- I wish there was more of a slow burn kind of love . Great story line that also in my opinion it did not need the smut. Not that I have any issues reading that part, however, in the middle of losing a sister, a best friend and a daughter, I feel the smut could've been skipped or left to imagination.

Glad a friend of mine recommended this book! Will definitely be picking up more from this author and cant wait to see where the story continues.

Also, we all need a best friend like Declan .

A story of how sometimes something good can come from something truly evil.

I came across "Six Years" on TOME and messaged the author when her dedication page made me laugh out loud.

I didn't have a Brad in my life, and it makes me realize how "lucky" | was with my own experiences. If that isn't its own messed up sentence and how women's experiences are belittled or not even believed, I don't what is.

Please take the trigger warnings at the beginning of this book to heart. It is not an easy book to read, but if you do you will be rewarded.

Thank you for your powerful story MK Brooks. I hope your own Brad got what was coming to him.

We need to never stop telling, to never be silenced. We need to believe those that have the courage to tell us and help their voice be heard.

You never know what someone went though in life. This was a book I took to heart somewhat. What an incredible story of a girl who was raped. Without giving away any spoilers. Please pause and read the blrub on the back of the cover. My heart goes out to anyone who went though this or something like this and feels like they have to or had to keep quiet. I like what @MK Brooks || Author wrote to me when she signed the book “ NEVER ALLOW ANYONE TO TAKE YOUR VOICE”.

This was such an amazing read! This is the most raw and real story I have read in a long time. It covers a very heavy topic so make sure to check your trigger warnings if you want to read this.

I cannot say enough things about how much I loved Asher and the way he was there for Auden. I loved every moment of this book and I highly recommend!

Loved this book. It keeps you on your toes trying to figure out what’s going to happen next, while a beautiful love story unfolds. Hard to believe this is the author’s debut. Our book club had two meetings to discuss it—every conversation was rich and engaging. We even connected with the author and got more insight into the characters, which made it even better. Can’t wait for the next book, MK!

Such an emotional story. As you prepare to read, make sure you check out the trigger warnings. MK wrote about tragedy that lead a girl running to return home and find her peace by sharing her experience along with her best friends. Whether she was ready or not, the love of her life falls right into her lap thanks to her best friend’s decisions.

This story was so real and emotional. Sadly all of us know someone that has been sexually assaulted and it is so important to learn about. MK Brooks wrote this story so beautifully. I relate to Auden and felt so bad for her. I loved how she was able to find support in those around her. Asher was a strong character and I enjoyed all of his chapters. Every time I read a Brad chapter it just made me mad. I was so happy with how this book ended, and it left me wanting more. The amount of times I cried while reading this book. This story has many strong themes so definitely check trigger warnings. I highly recommend. 🩵

I don’t even know where to begin. I just want to share my most recent completed read.

MK Brooks just released this book last week and it’s her first book! I do not personally know her but I know someone close to her.

‼️TRIGGER WARNING WHEN YOU READ the book. ‼️

There is sexual assault, abortion and suicide.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Have you ever faced something in your life that made you want to run away and create a whole different life for yourself where no one else knows who you are.

Auden does just that. For Six Years she’s been able to create a life where nobody knows what HELL she has had to live. She’s felt safe and made sure no one could find her until one day Asher (someone from her hometown) has to find her ad she’s the only person that can give many others the answers for why their small town was now facing a tragic unexpected loss.

This book grabbed my attention and kept it all the way through.

This book tells the TRUTH of two best friends.

It’s full of so many emotions.

Thank you MK for being an Auden for all the Taylors!

This book was so hard to put down. The whole time you read this book, your heart will go through all the emotions! Not to mention the suspense!

This story, while having some romantic moments, felt like so much more. Knowing that incidents and the aftermath like the one in this book happen in real life made it a beautiful way to send an important message.

This book is not all rainbows and unicorns. It is raw. It is real. M.K. Brooks displays various heavy and traumatic topics in such a gripping and pragmatic way! Auden fights to gain her power back in a story of trials and tribulations and Asher is by her side through it all, proving to be quite the supportive and understanding MMC that the world always needs more of! If you are a fan of multi-pov, heartbreaking small town stories that center around emotional healing then this is the book for you!
