Such a strange, trashy, compulsive book. Urban legends and friend-of-a-friend tales turned into heavy-handed, 'literary' short stories. I should hate this, but there's something so likeable about it.
You know all these stories. The man with a hook for a hand. The madman and the severed head. The hitchhiker with hairy hands. The woman who sells her cheating husband's Porsche for £10. This book has them all, written in a style like "Tales of the Unexpected" but sadly with none of that book's charm or wit that would make the stories actually funny or scary. It's good to remind yourself of anecdotes to tell at the pub (especially to your more gullible friends) but otherwise, there's nothing special here.
