The book I read was "The Restless Sea Human Impact" by Carole G. Vogel. This book is about how human's actions causes dramatic effects in the sea. The author gives evidence to how humans are distrusting it. For example, in the first chapter the author explains to the reader about oil spills and how they don't just harm the waters but harm dry land animals as well. After the oil has caused enough damage to the water, it washes up on the shores. Humans don't think much of this problem, but what they don't know is how it affect them as well. Another issue is global warming of course. The author also talks about global warming and how the dangers of it are increasing due to humans not doing anything about it. My thoughts on these topics is the same as the authors. I believe we should do something about the oil spills to make sure it doesn't happen again and if it does happen we react faster to it and clean the oil up. I always believe we should start really playing attention to global warming because it is becoming a very big issue. I would recommend this book to anyone because it is a fast read and it makes you aware of the problems our world is facing.
For grades 4-9. A good overview of how we humans have impacted the oceans and what we can do to lessen that impact. Unfortunately marred in several places by incorrect standard/metric conversions. Lots of great photos.
A great starter for anyone wanting to learn about the effects of overpopulation, global warming, and coastal development on our oceans...and how it will impact humans in the future. Should be required reading in schools!
