Alice Wilson never fooled herself into thinking her life was under control — she’d simply become an expert in pretending it was. Ever since losing her parents in a car crash she narrowly survived, Alice has walked a tightrope of grief and self-reliance, with no one to catch her if she fell.
But during a remote camping trip, far from the safety nets of modern life, everything changes. An unprecedented solar flare unleashes chaos, wiping out power grids, severing communications, and toppling modern infrastructure.
Stranded in a world gone dark, Alice is thrust into a fight for survival she never anticipated.
Now, racing against time to find a safe haven, Alice must make unthinkable choices to protect herself and those she cares about. Can she rise above the chaos, or will the storm of a shattered world consume her?
Flare Storm is a new novel from Amazon’s bestselling author of Ravaged Land. It’s a gritty, page-turning survival story of what happens after a solar flare changes everything and the world goes dark. As the world crumbles, one woman must fight to survive. If you like EMP and CME survival stories, you will love this book. Grab your copy and start reading today!
Kellee L. Greene is a stay-at-home mom to two super awesome and wonderfully sassy children. She loves to read, draw, and spend time with her family when she's not writing. Writing and having people read her books has been a long time dream of hers and she's excited to write more. Her favorite genres are Fantasy and Sci-fi. Kellee lives in Wisconsin with her husband, two kids, and two cats.
Another great introduction to the Ravaged Skies universe
Like all books in the Ravaged Skies universe, Flare Storm takes place prior to and in the immediate aftermath of a massive Solar Storm/CME. Alice, the primary character, is damaged, flawed, and completely believable. The other characters are a bit less developed, but the book is written from the perspective of Alice, so we all benefit from the insight into her thought processes, especially after she discovers someone's indefinitely to her. The book certainly depicts the world as falling apart in days and the worst in human nature coming out in mere days, all too likely. Flare Storm is an excellent introduction to the Ravaged Skies universe and is good for anyone who loves post-apocalyptic and or post-EMP/CME thrillers, especially those that involve characters who aren't preppers/homesteaders/survivalists, the characters are all regular people who aren't at all ready for the world to fall apart! 4/5 stars!
This book finds the characters out in the middle of the woods on a camping trip. Our point of view comes from Alice, the leading character, and she is someone most of us can relate to. Insecure and damaged after the events in her life took everything she had. Her back story is the most developed, the surrounding cast are not as fleshed out. I think this book is a good look at what would happen to ordinary people when their world comes crashing down around them. I think this book helps you understand what most people will suffer through should things go horribly wrong.
Alice endures heartbreak, relationship complications and life-changing circumstances all in a few days time period. She must learn how to navigate a new world with people she does not get along with and learn how to accept that some relationships evolve over time. Will Alice and her friends survive a new society without power or will they succumb to more powerful players around them? I received an ARC and I’m anxiously awaiting the second book in this series!
Well, Kellee has most certainly done it again. Not only do we have the drama of a flare storm taking out electronics everywhere, we have a group of friends out camping while it happens so they were unaware until a plane just drops from the sky. But not only that, we have drama with a capital D within this group. This wouldn't be an apocalyptic thriller without other groupings of people being on the verge...no, wait, they went full of the ledge. It took no time for community to collapse and everyone for themselves to reign.
Buckle up because this is just the beginning and it looks like it'll stay bumpy for a long time!
This is the first book that I have read by this author!! Very fun series! I really could not put this book down and read it in one afternoon!!
I really just wanted this group to turn around and head home!! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!!! I hope the second set of books come out quickly for all 15 of these authors!!
This author/book has popped up a lot from authors to friends that have read it and have recommended it.
So I grabbed my own copy and jumped right in..
A group of close knit friends are away from civilization camping and partying it up in the wilderness, when the first thing they notice is the cell phone service even though spotty to begin with they all noticed that all mobiles had died, then a plane just falls out of the sky, with this going on Alice catches her boyfriend cheating with his ex. The group is split down the middle, Alice and her two closest friends within the group decide to head out first thing, they are also the most worried out of the group and hope they meet up with other people to find out exactly what's happening.
Long story short, they all meet up as a whole group, and set on their way to find help..
Nothing really new that's not done before jumped out at me, there were the normal scary situations the group found themselves in, others wanting what little food they had, even killing to get it, to others wanting to trade humans and building a corrupt empire.
Stealing and finding shelter was top of everyone's minds within the group as they walked endless miles to try and get to their destination. Their hope was a bigger city/community where they hoped would have military presence or others like themselves seeking safety within a changed world. This did keep me entertained and pulled me out of the funk I had been in, it even has me wanting to read the next book only to see if they make it to safety or if danger lurks on their tails.
Imagine you've gone on a remote camping trip with 6 friends, you find out your boyfriend is cheating on you with another girl in the group, a solar flare hits Earth destroying all technology and there are nasty people out there. Well, that's what's happening to Alice Wilson. After running into two separate groups that are up to no good, losing everything you own and escaping twice, the group make it to Duluth which may not be the safe place they were hoping for. Now on to the next book in the series.
This story isn’t over,y complicated and there isn’t a lot of depth to it, but if you are a fan of apocalypse fiction this is an easy fun read. Society crumbles pretty fast and I wish that more had been written about Ryan and Alice.
