This book was everything I was promised, but it was so much more. It’s just incredible, it’s absolutely everything to me! And it was my very first ARC… Just amazing!
When you read a book that makes your heart ache, that gives you real pain, you instantly know it’s a good book—or rather, an excellent one. The kind that leaves a permanent mark, etched deep, tattooed on your heart, on your soul. I still haven’t gotten over it, I know I never will, and truthfully, I don’t want to. I want it to stay with me forever.
Catte’s words mean everything to me. They’re comfort, they’re anguish, they’re warmth, they’re pain—the deepest kind. But above all, they’re life. They make me feel everything, and that’s all I ever wanted from reading. Her words also carry humor—dark humor, in this case—the kind that makes you read with a smile on your lips and a tear in your eye. And me, who never cried while reading…
But I also know that if a book doesn’t move me this way, then it’s soulless, hollow, meaningless. And the story of Kaze and Khalee is all this and so much more. Because they’re special. They’re fully fleshed out characters, layered, scarred, broken enough—but still able to find each other, in life and even in death, and rebuild themselves, heal their wounds, together…
They are love, in its purest, most unconditional form!
They teach us that, though alive, we often live as “ghosts” far more than Kaze does in death. And sometimes, only by dying do we truly begin to live.
This book is also a life lesson—one that will stay with me forever. And it makes it crystal clear that love… is always the answer, always the cure, in life and in death. ALWAYS!!
I should also say that giving it 5 stars feels far too small, too limiting—it doesn’t come close to expressing how much I loved this book, this story, this couple (and the cat). It’s a 5-star read, yes—but one that goes far, far beyond.
It’s a must-read!
