Destiny connects them.
And in the spaces between their loneliness, they become friends—until, somewhere along the way, they end up becoming each other’s everything.
Through texts and late-night calls, he made her feel understood, like no one ever had, at the same time that she made him believe he wasn’t too far gone to be saved.
But after the night they finally touched—truly touched—everything fell apart.
He disappeared.
And she lost more than just the boy who made the world feel like a better place.
She lost her voice. Her will. Sacrificing herself for a different kind of love.
She needed him.
But he never came.
Five years later, Khalee returns home, hoping to make peace with her past and finally close the wounds his absence left behind.
But fate has other plans.
She sees him.
Still beautiful.
Still magnetic.
And, like life tends to be, nothing goes as expected.
Kaze is dead.
And now, Khalee faces a whole new kind of dilemma:
Will she help the ghost of the man she once loved remember who he was… or finally, let go of everything that’s kept her tied to the past?

About the author

Catte Coelho

5 books67 followers
Catte Coelho has always lived surrounded by stories, first in the books she devoured as a child and later in the worlds she began creating to fill the quiet spaces between reads.

Because books were expensive and arrived slowly, she started writing so her imagination wouldn’t lose its rhythm. Somewhere in that gap between waiting and wanting to keep feeling, the author was born.

Her first story appeared in seventh grade: a handwritten play about Hades and Aphrodite that never made it to the stage but earned enough applause to convince her she could build worlds of her own. She never stopped after that. She moved through blogs, diaries and small everyday chronicles until, in 2017, she finally decided to devote herself to fiction.

What drives Catte are emotions, especially the ones that live just under the skin. The small things. The silences that speak louder than words, the forehead kiss when a heart is tired, the kind of love that hides inside the softest gestures.

In her books, healing is always a central thread, along with the search for belonging and the most human form of love. Her style shifts between emotional, humorous and sensual, guided by whatever each scene demands.
Though she may seem extroverted, Catte is deeply introverted, always facing her nerves with a “why not?” and a stubborn desire to experience everything that scares her. She writes in the late hours of the night, hugs her cats and dog far too often to count, lives on coffee with milk and starts every chapter to the sound of “This Is What Dreams Are Made Of” from Lizzie McGuire—a ritual that anchors her to creation.

She lives in Lisbon with her parents, works at an international company in the quality field and spends her free time between books, early-2000s playlists, long conversations with friends and strolls with her boyfriend—preferably on the way to sushi. Her dreams remain quietly tucked away, not for lack of ambition, but because she believes some desires need silence to take shape.

Catte is in love with the book community, especially with genres like reverse harem, dark romance, monster romance and omegaverse, genres she actively champions on her bookstagram.

She describes herself as spontaneous, empathetic and curious. Inside, she calls herself an adorable chaos—the place where everything is born and where, luckily, only her stories wander.

Above all, Catte writes to give readers what she sometimes lacked in her own difficult moments: an embrace, a refuge, an escape, the promise that healing exists and that happy endings can happen—even for those who stopped believing in them.

This was a fucking journey. one that i will never forget. This book is everything, funny, heartbreaking, beautiful. I find myself without words to describe it. It was one of the most beautifull stories that I ever read. Full of emotion, the author can take you from 0 to 100 with her words only and it's magical. You feel every bit of it. Thank you, thank you for this amazing story.

Bonded Beyond the Veil was a deeply emotional, tender read that really surprised me with how much it made me feel. This story leans hard into grief, love, healing, and human connection, and it doesn’t shy away from the messy parts of those emotions.

What stood out most to me was how character-driven this book is. Kaze and Khalee both carry so much pain, guilt, and loneliness, and watching their journeys unfold felt raw and intimate. Their story isn’t just about romance it’s about loss, mental health, forgiveness, and learning how to keep going when life breaks you open. The emotional weight builds gradually, and by the time everything starts coming together, I was fully invested in them as people, not just as a couple.

There’s also a softness to this book that balances the heartbreak. Quiet moments, small connections, and the slow unraveling of the past give the story warmth beneath the sadness. I really appreciated how the author explored trauma and healing in a way that felt compassionate rather than rushed.

Overall, this was a beautiful, emotional read that hit me right in the heart. If you love character focused stories with angst, healing arcs, and a romance that’s rooted in deep emotional connection, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

I mean… this book was a ride… emotional damage, that’s what it was 🥹😂 omg… after reading this I needed to breathe. Because this story gets deep into questions I, myself, lived through, unfortunately. I saw myself in the FMC in so many ways, other characters had lives people around me livED. I loved the way the plot was structured, how the timing was organised, really well done. And I loved how deep each character was developed. Each with both flaws and strengths. Just perfect ❤️ Being the author Portuguese, this first book in English is really well written.

This book was everything I was promised, but it was so much more. It’s just incredible, it’s absolutely everything to me! And it was my very first ARC… Just amazing!

When you read a book that makes your heart ache, that gives you real pain, you instantly know it’s a good book—or rather, an excellent one. The kind that leaves a permanent mark, etched deep, tattooed on your heart, on your soul. I still haven’t gotten over it, I know I never will, and truthfully, I don’t want to. I want it to stay with me forever.

Catte’s words mean everything to me. They’re comfort, they’re anguish, they’re warmth, they’re pain—the deepest kind. But above all, they’re life. They make me feel everything, and that’s all I ever wanted from reading. Her words also carry humor—dark humor, in this case—the kind that makes you read with a smile on your lips and a tear in your eye. And me, who never cried while reading…

But I also know that if a book doesn’t move me this way, then it’s soulless, hollow, meaningless. And the story of Kaze and Khalee is all this and so much more. Because they’re special. They’re fully fleshed out characters, layered, scarred, broken enough—but still able to find each other, in life and even in death, and rebuild themselves, heal their wounds, together…

They are love, in its purest, most unconditional form!
They teach us that, though alive, we often live as “ghosts” far more than Kaze does in death. And sometimes, only by dying do we truly begin to live.

This book is also a life lesson—one that will stay with me forever. And it makes it crystal clear that love… is always the answer, always the cure, in life and in death. ALWAYS!!

I should also say that giving it 5 stars feels far too small, too limiting—it doesn’t come close to expressing how much I loved this book, this story, this couple (and the cat). It’s a 5-star read, yes—but one that goes far, far beyond.

It’s a must-read!

🇬🇧

Me, the person who doesn't cry with books, shed two tears with this one (those who know me know how rare that is).
It's an intense book, a punch in the gut with some themes, with characters so relatable that they seem real. I suffered with them, as if they were my friends telling me their story, and I fell in love with Kaze with each chapter.
Beyond the difficult themes, these two are sometimes a comedy together, which ended up creating moments of laughter amidst the chaos.
And the ending? Honestly, I never even dreamed of the plot twist that occurred, and that was literally what killed me 😭
Thank you, Catte, for letting me accompany you on this journey. With your talent, I know you'll go far 🩷

🇵🇹

Obrigada Catte, por me deixares acompanhar-te nesta jornada.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Completely fascinated by this book! Totally different from any romance I’ve ever read. A super original idea, and it’s pulled off so well.

I’m completely addicted to Kaze and in love with the romance between him and Khalee.

If you think you’re ready for this love story… think again 😍

ARC Reader-

Wow, what a beautiful and emotional ride this book was. As someone who grew up loving the movie Ghost, this story gave me all the angsty yearning, heartbreak, and healing love I was hoping for. While the two stories are very different, they both share the same core truth…the power of love and the unshakable bond between two souls that defies even the boundaries of life and death.

I was especially drawn to Kaze. His struggle with mental health and depression made him such a raw, relatable character. Reading his journey was heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. Watching this tormented soul slowly find peace and meaning in his existence truly resonated with me.

At the same time, Khalee’s journey was just as powerful. Not only was she faced with helping the love of her life find answers in the afterlife, but she was also forced to confront her own trauma. The way her story unfolded piece by piece added such a compelling layer of suspense that kept me hooked until the very end.

I have to give major props to the author for writing her very first book in English…seriously, bravo! Since she’s Portuguese, I can only imagine how tough it must be to write a whole novel in a second language, and she pulled it off beautifully.

That being said, there were a few scenes that felt a little wordy or repetitive, and those moments pulled me out of the story just a bit. But the emotion was always there, and overall I think she did an amazing job.

Final thoughts, this was a quick yet deeply emotional read that gave me all the feels!

I want to start by sharing that it is an honor to have been the ARC for my dear friend Catte! It was the first time I was and I was fortunate to have been for such a wonderful book as this, it's a book that truly tells us a love story, a story about overcoming, about survival. About how we live with our internal struggles and strive to belong in this world in the best way we know how.
I entered in this reading completely 'blind,' but I soon realized that this book was going to leave a mark on me! It was the first one that actually made me cry, and I had never cried with a book before, so you can already get a sense of the impact this story has.
The writing is very poetic and engaging, with a subtle touch of humor, especially in the interactions between Kaze and the (to me unforgettable!) Cat Cosmos! Those interactions bring the lightness needed to face more intense moments 🥹
The narrative fluctuates between the present and the past, thus allowing us to better understand the emotional wounds of the protagonists Kaze and Khalee.
Kaze emerges as a character deeply marked by vices and depression, finding in Khalee not just salvation, but a connection of souls.
Khalee also found herself in Kaze, and despite seeming to have the perfect family, we realize she also battled struggles and traumas.
Throughout the reading we are led through a whirlwind of emotions: empathy, pain, tenderness, and hope. The way Khalee guides Kaze in the search for answers while suffering for him is one of bittersweet beauty.
A reading that left me very emotional, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for writing that touches the soul.

✨ ARC Review ✨

A perfeição existe, e chama-se Bonded Beyond the Veil!

“ Because my heart doesn’t just belong to the man he once was. It belongs to his soul ”

“ She rests her head over my heart, listening to it beat like a melody meant only for her. And it is, because she’s the reason it’s still beating.
So, yes, the melody of my soul is really only for her. “

“ I didn’t believe in fate until you, now I believe in everything. “

Perfeito, perfeito, perfeito!

It's been a while since I finished this masterpiece, but I still don't quite know what to say. Whenever I try to write, my eyes start to fill with tears because I remember the journey that was the encounters and misunderstandings between Kaze and Kalee, and my heart tightens so much that it's hard to breathe.

Catte wrote characters for my soul. She wrote pain and fear, despair and love, all in two characters and in just one book, and that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The healing that Bonded Beyond The Veil allowed me is unparalleled by any other book I have read. I read the characters and I was also reading myself, and even now I wish I had the ability to dive into this book for the first time again.

There is a very important delicacy in Catte's words. She tells us hard things so gently that we spend half an hour staring at the pages and thinking about how it reflects on our lives. A complete work of art, a dance of words and emotions that never misses a step.

I am so grateful to Catte for writing this book, and I am very, very proud. There is no way to explain everything it made me feel, the way it welcomed me, and how understood I felt in Kalee and Kaze. And of course, in Cosmos, which I love as if it were my own.

If you read only one book in your life, let it be this one ❤️

*ARC REVIEW*
From the very first chapter I was deeply in love with Khalee and Kaze's connection, as well as with Catte's wonderful writing. Her works echoed inside my rib cage as if they were being whispered from, and to, my heart.
The plot's depth is so rich, kept me on edge. But this? This is just me trying to rationalize the quality of the writing and the storyline... Because if I turn off logic, and turn up emotion, what I really, really mean is that for 3 days I couldn't put "Bonded beyond the veil" down, even hugged my Kobo to sleep. I wept as the distance kept Khalee and Kaze apart, I fell into despair with them as their hearts shattered, and I found myself praying to some god I don't believe in, so that everything would be alright with them.
To the author who granted me this ARC: your words, Catte, are still drumming inside my head. Thank you!

Omfg what a journey this book was! The way Catte describes pain, trauma, depression it's so real. This book was a slap in the face in the best way possible. Things I never thought I would be able to transmit to anyone came to life. The struggles of these characters, their pain, their tries at getting better, resonated with me in a way I don't have words to explain. This is a story about heartache, about a love that knows no bounds, about two people so connected that they found each other and fought for each other so hard until they were able to reunite and build a life together. The way they chose each other again and again and again. And the twist at the end. I was not expecting it, but was hoping for it, so much! Because it all made sense, everything just clicked together and it was perfect. Catte's writing is poetic, beautiful and it wraps around you like an embrace. I was barely able to put this book down. Even when it hurt. And it hurt. But in the end I fou d myself smiling wide because all the ache and hurt was so worth it!

I loved every moment !
The characters are fenomenal, dimensional and very lovable, even the hard ones!
The story is adorable and wraps you in like a cozy blanket 💖 you feel what they feel because Catte’s writing is just like that ! When they fight you get mad, when they laugh you laugh, when they cry you cry, because there is a point where tears cannot be held in anymore.
I don’t usually cry but there was a point where the story between the sisters just got me 😢
I loved this book not just because of the love story but also because of the relationship between every important character, it’s just deep and meaningful!
And the cat, and the Disney discussion and the lullaby… damn it was good
Thank you so much for the opportunity to be an Arc in this amazing ride 💝

🇬🇧
When I received the ARC of Catte’s book, I had no idea how deeply it would move me. It’s without a doubt one of my favorites this year.

Kaze and Khalee completely stole my heart, page after page, and I found myself rooting for them to get their happy ending. The number of times I cried in the final chapters is ridiculous—I don’t think I’ve ever wanted things to work out so badly. 🥹

The themes explored in this book hit me on such a personal level that I caught myself holding my breath more than once. It truly felt like Catte was speaking directly to me. The writing is incredibly poetic and raw, and the way it shifts between past and present was just the cherry on top. There wasn’t a single dull moment.

But just as much as I cried, I have to say—I laughed a lot too. The banter between the two of them and Cosmos’ involvement were a breath of fresh air amidst all the heartbreak and breath-stealing moments.

Special mention to Khalee’s mom and the conversation they had. When I tell you I cried my soul out... it honestly wasn’t even healthy. 😭

Thank you, Catte, for giving me the chance to read your book and experience the story of your two precious characters. We want more 💜

So, I never leave reviews but this one is special. I'm in awe with this book.
It's so emotional, so raw, so full of love and willingness.
Kahlee is so fierce, so graceful, so desperate to love and be loved in return.
Kaze is something out of this world. Every woman wants a Kaze. Someone who will love you above all else. Everyone wants a love these powerful. So powerful that will extend beyond the veil. Beyond life and death itself.
I never cry with books. This one was one of the only exceptions.
It will reap your heart apart and then, it will give hope. In the end it'll leave you in cloud nine.
And let me just tell you... It's always hard to read about something that is so close to your heart, something that caused you trauma, and some parts were a tough pill to swallow, but it was so worth it.

Two words! Criminally. Underrated.
How is this not all over bookstagram or booktok?
An amazing paranormal romance! It's not just the story nor is it just the characters... THE FUCKING WRITING ITSELF IS SO 🤌 you know?

I actually went into this book with no expectations, and left with immense satisfaction!! The rollercoaster of feelings I went on while reading this😂😭😌🙂🙃

Kahlee was so relatable in some ways and Kaze... MotherfucKING Kaze... (I actually cried on chap 34!!!🥲) (Which makes this the 4th book that made me cry in my life!!)
Also, there's a fucking cat!!💜

In all seriousness if you're looking for a good romance with incredible characters and a truly wonderful and heart wrecking love story, this is it!

Congrats to Catte for this pure piece of art!👌

Bonded Beyond the Veil was an absolute emotional rollercoaster. From the very first chapters until the very last page, it kept my heart under pressure — and I loved every second of it.

This book made me feel everything: disgust, anger, devastation, laughter… it’s rare to find a story that can touch such a wide range of emotions, and this one delivered. The characters are beautifully layered, each carrying their own pain and struggles — from personal trauma to battles with addiction. Some of these wounds are obvious, others more subtle, but all of them add depth and humanity to the story. Watching their growth and resilience was just as gripping as the twists of the plot itself.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters — her with her tarot craft and him as a ghost. It felt unique, refreshing, and truly memorable. And the ending? Perfectly executed. It left me breathless until the very last moment.

Catte Coelho’s debut proves not only her talent but also her courage — writing such a powerful story in English, while being from Portugal, is no small feat. And she did it brilliantly.

If you’re looking for a story that will make you feel everything, this is the one.

What a story this was?
The originality, so unique, told in such a simple yet emotionally complex way.
I felt every page, every sentence, every word... it's impossible not to identify with these characters.
I feel seen in Khalee's shoes. What she felt, what she went through... Not mourning a relationship (of any kind) but the person we were before they left our lives... for me, it was a tight hug. Understanding.
The rollercoaster of emotions... oh my God! I loved it!
Exciting, fun (I love you, Cosmos), tortuous, my soul died and came back to life on every page.
From the sighs, to the anxiety, to the laughter, the eye rolls... the tears... The tension and love between them...and the PLOT!!!

Congratulations, it was a beautiful and crazy ride.

I liked this book so much! The author makes us feel every emotion, and it’s incredible. We get sad, we get happy, we get hopeless and also with hope. We get attatched a lot with tue characters. I felt like I really knew Kaze and Khalee. The book is also very good to start reading in english, but it also have a lot of deep toughts.
I loved the chapters about the past, so we know more about what happened.
And the ending? Amazing.
Congratulations Catte, its an amazing book, and you deserve that!!

Such a beautiful story! Very deep and emotional and that focuses a lot on the two main character’s love for each other, but also the problems they face as they still work on their own lives and how that affects their relationship. You could truly feel how much they cared about each other, and how their love was almost bonded by fate and how they were always feeling a pull to each other, the story works in a way that everything happens for a reason and it was so interesting to get to the end of the book and see that.

While I found the writing equally beautiful, I struggled a little with the way the story was told. There were a lot of moments of descriptions of the characters’ emotions, how they felt in the moment or how something made them feel and it became a little repetitive, with even some words and expressions being repeated multiple times, and that made the story a little slow. I wish these could’ve been cut a little shorter and for the book to focus more on the development of the story. Besides that, a lot of paragraphs were very short sentences, with even some chapters being just told by 5 to 10 word sentences per paragraphs, which made the reading a little tiring.

Nonetheless, I still think the author has a lot of potential for future stories!

Thank you to Catte Coelho for the ARC.

"But the question that haunts me the most is this: If I hadn't believed, would I have seen the lie?"

Final rating – ⭐⭐⭐ and half!
I liked it, but I thought I would like it more.

The prologue begins immediately with a sense of pain and, although it contains two of my favorite lines in the book, I have to admit it didn’t pull me in. She suffers, but I couldn’t feel her pain, because at that point I didn’t know her story yet and wasn’t invested in her character. It all felt a bit too much, which completely disconnected me from her.

Rereading the prologue after finishing the book brings a new light to it, but even then, I have to admit it’s a prologue I really didn’t enjoy. If it had been my first impression of the book, without knowing what was coming, I probably wouldn’t have continued reading.

The book alternates chapters between past and present, which fits well with the narrative, even though it’s not usually something I enjoy. At the same time, it switches perspectives between both the FMC and the MMC, which allowed me to see the story through the eyes of each protagonist, definitely a positive aspect that made me appreciate the book more.

As for the characters, I absolutely loved Kaze. He’s one of those characters you just want to hug and tell that everything will be okay, to try to ease his pain and suffering. His POV chapters ended up being my favorites. On the other hand, I couldn’t quite connect with Khalee, which surprised me, as I was expecting to bond with her more.

"I longed for connection. I longed for love."

The story itself delivers everything it promised. I caught myself holding back tears in several different moments, and failing. The book explores the many layers of grief: not only grief over death, but also the grief of losing a relationship, a stage of life, or even your own identity. There’s grief for the life we wanted to live but was ripped away from us, and I truly applaud Catte for portraying that so well throughout the story.

"And I'm trapped between two versions of myself: The fearless girl I used to be. And the one I will never be again."

And the ending? Just when I thought I had peeled away all the layers of this onion, I was hit with one of the most bittersweet twists I’ve ever read, one that pulled a few more silent tears from me.

Part of me feels I might have enjoyed this book more if I had read it in Portuguese. In some descriptive passages, I felt that things could have been phrased differently, and I believe that stems from the fact that the author is not a native English speaker. Sometimes it felt as though certain sentences were first thought in Portuguese and then written in English, and while the meaning was there, the phrasing didn’t always sound natural. I truly hope one day I’ll have the chance to reread this love story in Portuguese, something tells me it will resonate even more with me that way. ❤️

You really do go on such an emotional journey when it comes to this book and many tears were shed from the beginning right until they very last few chapters🥹 This is the first book I have read from this author and it most certainly the last that’s for sure, Kaze and Khalee’s story will definitely stay with me.

This book hooks you straight in from the prologue, and this is where we meet Khalee 5 years in the past and by the end of this chapter two words comes to mind which is lost and loneliness. From our initial impressions Khalee was abandoned by the one person who had her heart dearly and when she needed him he didn’t show and she never ever got a reason why because he is still missing 5 years to the present.

We then jump to the present day where we meet Kaze and well I’m going to be blunt here Kaz is a ghost who is wondering this earth with unfinished business that’s for sure but what that business is he cannot recall as his memories of his life before he became a ghost is quite blurry. But the one thing he remembers very clear is how much he struggled in his past life due to depression and he would do anything to numb the loneliness. Now as a ghost he is wandering the very events he used to lose himself too but now he is invisible and cannot interact or so he thought👀.

One thing I forgot to mention about Khalee is that she is a witch, and she believes this is probably the reason she can see him but there is in fact another reason, he is the man who ghosted (sorry I had to throw it in there) 5 years ago never to be seen again. There is a tiny catch though yeah I mentioned earlier that Kaze’s memories of his past life were fuzzy well that means he also doesn’t remember Khalee. Now these two must find out what unfinished business Kaz has on this earth and most importantly what happened on that night 5 years ago.

My heart broke for Khalee on so many occasions during this book, mainly because she carried the memories of a man she loved quite dearly while he has no memory of her. But the love never faded between them, the spark never faded which shows you never doubt fate and these two slowly started to fall for each other all over again😭

I don’t want to give to much away about this book but if you like and emotional journey with a sassy FMC, flirty ghost then this is the book for you.

Thank you to the author who reached out and provided an e-copy of her book for my honest thoughts 💭
