Something Old. Something New. We got drunk and said, “I do.”
Okay, listen. It’s not like I woke up in Napa Valley with marriage on the brain. It was a series of unfortunate events that resulted in Layken Hobbs in my living room wearing my team hoodie and a pair of my pajama pants.
And well, it just so happens, I’m a sucker for pajama pants. And apparently the girl wearing them.
Needing to get her mind off of life for a few days, the team and wags invite her to come with us to Napa Valley for the weekend. A getaway filled with all the alcohol and none of the inhibitions.
Right down to her twerking down the aisle as I waited to say, “I do.”
So yeah. That’s how it happened. We’re not in a position to go through a public divorce right now, so here we are, for better or worse while we figure a way out of our drunken mistake.
It’s no big deal. We can do this, right? Yeah. Trust me. It’s not as easy as I thought it would be.
Because the more I get to know Layken, the more I like her. And the more I like her, the faster I fall.

Omgosh I loved this book so much! Layken and Griffin are perfect. Their story was sweet and funny, with the perfect amount of spice. Can’t wait for the next book!
I have read a decent amount of books by this author, and I love her writing for so many reasons. The books are funny, romantic, and spicy! This book with Layken and Griffin was no different, it had me dying with laughter from the very beginning. When Layken has a crap day, she is invited to hang with her bestie and the team at Griffin's place. While hanging out she gets even more bad news, which leads Griffin offering up his spare room and the team inviting her to join them in Napa. Griffin trying to keep a smile on Layken's face, takes her out trying new things. When they make a "drunken mistake", they have to decide how to handle it. Getting married can ruin both their lives and possible careers, so they decide to fake it for a while. As time passes and they spend more time together, they both realize they have fallen for each other but are too scared to admit it. They love each other but little things pop up that can ruin it if they can't be open with each other.
Tropes: 👉 Accidental Marriage 👉 Hockey 👉 Forced Proximity
TWs 😟: Unsupportive Parents, Mentions of Car Accident
Main Takeaway 🏹: Griffin was worth the wait!
Synopsis 📜: Layken loses her job as a hospital fundraiser in a merger and finds herself on a trip with her friends, including Hockey player and her current crush, Griffin. After many drinks, they decide to take a trip down the aisle. To avoid a scandal, they decide to stay married for the time being but neither one wants to see this end.
Personal Thoughts 🤔: I have loved Susan for a few years now. Her characters are always so fun and she is the queen of grabbing the reader's attention immediately with a character saying something ridiculous. Griffin and Layken did not disappoint! The banter between them is top notch and the lack of a third act breakup but no lack of third act drama was a perfect read for me!!
Thank you to Susan Renee for this arc in exchange for an honest review
Griffin has talked to Layken before but for some reason this time is different. What Griffin doesn't know is that Layken has had a crush on him for years but hasn't had the courage to do anything about it. Maybe when they go to Napa with their friends Layken and Griffin can come together?
I love that Griffin calls Layken Naughty. The way Layken shows up dripping wet and crying made me so sad. I'm surpsied Griffin didn't hug her while she was wet. How cute is it that the second Griffin sees Layken in his clothes makes his whole world shift. The fact that Griffin wants to help Layken with book ideas is adorable. I'm obsessed with their wedding night. It definitely didn't go how they planned but it was still a night to remember. The reference to the glitter challenge the guys did over Christmas was great. The ending was sweet and I love the epilogue. Now it's time to wait for the next masterpiece by Susan!
Do you like hockey? Do you enjoy laughing while reading about two people falling in love? Then this book is for you. It is the 4th book in the Anaheim Stars series. You do not have to read the others before this book. The books are interconnected, and you really shouldn't miss out on Oliver, Bodhi, and August's stories.
What if I See You is Griffin and Layken's love story. In this story, you will get to enjoy the continued banter between teammates (that are friends and more like family) and their wives/girlfriends. The games they play are hilarious, and they are always there for each other in good times and rough times. What if I See You will not break your heart and leave you crying for hours. You will be happy to have read Griffin and Layken's story.
If you haven't already done so, you should read the first three books in the series, and if you haven't read the Chicago Red Tails series, you need to read that too.
This is my new favorite book in this series! I absolutely adore Griffin and Layken. This was the sweetest love story. And the spice was yummy! Susan Renee always writes fantastic stories that pull you in and make you feel like you’re friends or family with the characters and this was no different. I smiled, literal cheesy grin, through at least 80% of this book it was that kind of feel-good story. There were tears too…what happened to Gage had me on the edge of my seat! I will give one warning - if you don’t have a great (or even good/semi-decent) relationship with a parent some of Layken’s story may be a bit triggering. Absolutely worth the read, just warning to prepare you. As always, if you’re not reading Susan Renee’s books, you’re missing out! Read them all!
I loved their story so much! Accidental marriage turns real pretty quickly and they fall so in love with each other!
This pairing had been hinted at in the past few books with Layken having a distant crush on him and then once they started to get to know each other on a deeper level they fell hard and fast.
He helped her confront some of her demons and brought her into the fold of his family.
She helped ground him more so than he already is daily.
I LOVE SUSAN RENEE BOOKS. These Anaheim Stars men give me all the feels! Griffin sure gave Zeke a run for his top spot with this book. I think that Griffin and Layken are absolutely PERFECT together! I absolutely love his goofy spirit and how he brightens everyone’s mood. The pajama pants get me every time! I loved how seamlessly Layken fit in with the team and the WAGS. I had so many quotes highlighted in this book because it was that good! I was laughing and shouting and crying along with the characters. If you haven’t started this series, you absolutely should!
I love these two! Griffin is known for his silly personality. Larkin has had a crap week and needs some fun. A whole lot of alcohol later and they wake up married. These two need each other. Griffin is the best hype man for Laykin and gives her the love and family she has never had. She grounds Griffin in a way that he didnt even know he needed. These two are so sweet. From taking a step back and learning who each other is. When their fears get in the way from them communicating they have amazing friends who keep them in line and get them to speak their minds. Loved this book!
Sigh... again. Sheer perfection. Truly. Susan Renee has won the face off in terms of hockey romances. Her characters are written to pure, unabashed perfection. The story lines are just wonderful and her talent for making each book a stand alone but yet integrate into a series is unparalleled.
This time it's Layken and Griffin and you will be swooning by the end of chapter 1. Guaranteed. Literally, no two characters/people were ever written for each other better than these two.
If you need a book to make you laugh, smile, swoon, and just forget about all the negative in your life for a bit, then read this book right now. This book was exactly what I needed during a stressful time. The found family with the Anaheim Stars just keeps getting better. Griffin is a super swoony supportive spouse. Layken has such a great heart. Everyone needs a Griffin in their corner and a Layken in their life.
I absolutely loved this book! It had me laughing from the very beginning! This couple was perfect for each other, there’s a drunk accidental marriage but their developing friendship and learning how much they have in common was so sweet. How his family loves her like her family didn’t was the sweetest thing. Their support for each other and dirty banter kept me laughing! Such a good read !!
This book was such a great read. Layken and Griffin make a dynamic pair. Layken was such a relatable, down to earth character. I really felt a connection with her. The shower scene was one of the best scenes I have ever read. This book was over way too soon and I can't wait to read what Susan has in store for us next.
I love this series and Griffin is one of my favorites. He wears his pyjama pants with pride and he knows how to charm us. Layken is the best of the best and she makes you laugh out loud and fall deeply in love with her and this book.
This is one of my favorite series and the author knows how to write feelgood books that can make you cry but also laugh out loud.
GRIFFIN GRIFFIN GRIFFIN THE MAN THAT YOU ARE 👏🏻👏🏻 We LOVE a man who stands up to her family and treats her the way she DESERVES to be treated !!! Absolutely OBSESSED with him, this book, their story, and everything else 📚💜
Tropes include: Marriage of convenience FOUND FAMILY 😭🫶🏻 Hockey romance “MY WIFE” and so much more
Wow sexy hockey player and a bucket list hell yes .Layken and Griffin Had me laughing for the first 5 chapters i swear. And this book ended way way to soon I could read another book about these two . They are great. Susan did a spectacular job with this book
Wasn't sure how I felt about Accidentally marriage, but Susan works it in this funny spicy romance! As always love the mention of other characters but that this can also be a stand alone! As with some others I feel like the end wraps up too quickly for me but maybe that's because I'm enjoying the story so much!
Griffin is the guy everyone loves, his goofy pj's and positive attitude make him a fan favorite. Lakin might not feel seen by those in her life, but after a drunken night and a wedding, Griffin is determined to show her exactly what he sees. They are perfect together!! If you are in your hockey era and haven't read this series, you are missing out!
He was known for his wild pj’s and when he loaded a pair her a pair after having a really crappy day…well the fun was just beginning. Thrown together in Napa, a bucket list, a younger brother and wonderful parents, crappy parents, calling each other husband and wife…this fun HEA has the perfect blend of humor and spice. Parts are really laugh out loud.
I was lucky to receive an ARC of this book. These are my views and given voluntarily.
I love the earlier books in this series so was looking forward to this book. This book is really enjoyable - Griffin and Layken are great main characters and their accidental wedding works well for them both and you go on a great journey with them as they are drawn to each other and they’re marriage of convenience becomes more. Love all the side characters - a great friendship group and Griffins family are fabulous. The wonderful mama Gail gets 5 stars herself. This book is heart warming, engaging, funny and some great spicy scenes. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to more. Can totally be read standalone or as part of the series.
This book couldn’t be any cuter, sweeter, and just heart touching!!! I knew pajama pants would catch on!! They are great!! Layken and Griffin are a match made in heaven!!! Truly spectacular!! Love them both!!
Griffin and Layken... a match made in heaven, or a match made in Napa?! Hahaha. These 2 were made for each other! This book was another fun quick read. I enjoyed their chemistry and banter. I love a world building series so when characters intertwine from other books I'm hooked!
If you've read any of the prior books then you've grown to love Griffin and his pjs. What If I See You is a fun, quick read with lots of hilarious dialogue and a fun meet-cute with all your favorite Anaheim Stars characters.
Got love the fake marriage. The one that becomes so much more! And with a group of friends like theirs. You’ll be able to live it out. It’s funny and sexy and everything Susan makes when she writes. Love it. Might be my favorite one so far!!!
Susan did it again! Layken and Griffin are perfect for each other. I love how they got together and how the story progressed. A few tears, some laughter and an absolutely perfect HEA!
Absolutely obsessed! Griffin is such a wholesome family guy. Layken has crushed on Griffin and love their story. It’s full of giggles and some tears along the way. I can’t wait for the next book!
A wild night in Napa leads Griffin and Layken to make the best “mistake” of their lives when they wake up from their night out married and to protect each other’s livelihood and image decide to remain together at least for a while. But soon Griffin shows Layken she is everything her family tries to make her believe she is not and he will do anything to protect her and prove she is worthy of only great love and respect. Griffin is a goofy sweet man devoted to his team and his family especially his younger brother and Layken is a brilliant and talented woman who has been best down to much by the negativity and high standards of her parents because she marches to the beat of her own drum. This story was funny and sweet and had me laughing and tearing up as well as cheering because we all deserve a person in our corner the way Griffin is in Laykens.
Accidental marriage is one of my favorite troupes!! One night of drunkenness leads to marriage and a HEA for Layken and Griffin! This book has it all humor, tears, spice and my favorite a hero who helps the heroine put her crappy parents in their place!! Although this is book 4 it can be read a stand alone. LOVED this book and can't wait for the next book in this series
