Ruth Hamilton was one of North West England's most popular writers. She was the bestselling author of twenty-five novels, including Spinning Jenny, The Bells of Scotland Road, Mulligan's Yard, Mersey View and That Liverpool Girl. She was born in Bolton, which is the setting for many of her novels, and spent most of her life in Lancashire.
Ruth has got an insight into human frailties and the way that they can affect people. Kate is an enigma and unusual. Her story has emotionally and abusive relationships. The characters are complex and believable, although they could be thrown out of kilter by events.
Did I enjoy this book, I am undecided. I sometimes felt I didn't realise quite what was happening ...I like to look forward to reading the "what happened next" I didn't with this book!!
1 star because I suppose it’s of its time. Generally though it was pretty bad. Unlikeable, stereotypical characters and a plot that seemed to happen not in the actual book.
