Bound by love, torn by politics—will their hearts survive the storm?
Mina’s heart aches with betrayal. Rixon, the man she loves, has broken a sacred rule by claiming the crown—something the Citadel forbids. The rift between them grows when Mina is summoned to answer for his actions. She thinks this is the space she needs, but as the distance stretches, so does her longing for him.
In the halls of the Citadel, nothing is as it seems. Witches are divided, secrets stir, and when Mina’s actions ignite a dangerous conflict, she is forced to flee back to the capital. Desperate to heal the growing divide between them, Mina returns to find that their love isn’t the only thing in danger. Rixon’s life is on the line.
With armies closing in and betrayal lurking from within, the real fight for their love—and their lives—has only just begun.

Melissa Mitchell is a fantasy romance author best known for her seven-book Dragonwall series.
She fell in love with fantasy at a young age after discovering The Dragonriders of Pern, and she’s been chasing dragons, magic, and epic love stories ever since. Her books often feature beloved tropes like hidden royalty, slow-burn romance, and the undeniable tension of only one bed.
When she’s not writing, Melissa holds a PhD in physics and works as an optical engineer. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, a husky, and four very spoiled bunnies. She also enjoys baking cookies, bullet journaling, and figure skating—usually while thinking about her next book.
I read this in 1 sitting and in less than 6 hours! I am OBSESSED with this series 😍 I have been eagerly awaiting this book. Unfortunately, just means I have to wait now another 4 months for the last book ☹️
Rixon broke the Citadel law when he claimed the kingdom’s throne. He broke Mina’s heart when he did it without talking to her first, even if he did it to save her and the kingdom. Mina must now answer for Rixon’s actions to the witch’s council.
Tensions are rising between the Citadel and the Capital. There are those who believe the time for witches to rule should come, but for Mina, it’s hard to know who she can and can’t trust. Rixon’s life and the portal to hell depend on it. Can they find a way to close the portal for good, while also thwarting threats from outside and within the kingdom?
I’ve loved how these books have been fast paced but you still get the plots moving forward, while still giving us the spice I’ve loved throughout the series.
One aspect I enjoy about this series is that with each book, we deal with various aspects of Rixon and Mina’s relationship, when it’s comes to their separate issues pertaining to control, devotion, communication, and trust. And it’s not one sided. One book, we get Mina’s issues to work through, then we’ll flip to Rixon. Their relationship is balanced and they both are flawed, but love each other through everything and I love how they still talk about their future (kids—thank you! An author not afraid to have their characters talk about kids, even briefly).
I LOVE how Rixon just totally embraces Mina’s demon side. Like, he’s feral for it and is never afraid of it or tries to get her to get rid of it. As he says, she’s HIS monster.
The spice 🌶️🥵 whew, the spice. Didn’t think the author could kick it up any more but she proved me wrong. Warning: we definitely step into a new realm of their spice that could trigger some people for sure, so proceed with caution ⚠️ but it was still hot and I loved it. Again, we’ve dealt with in previous books of Rixon giving complete control over to Mina and his issues with that. And now, we get to see Mina go through the same thing. They’re both feral for each other in the best way 😍🥵
Also, we get more of some of the new side characters we were introduced to last book (Eliana, Anne, and their wielders) and even a bit of confirmation of some of their relationships that we only could speculate about 😜 I kind of need more info on some of the other witch/wielder relationships lol 😂
I can’t wait for the final book of this series and see how it ends. Sad to wait until January, but will gobble it up once it’s here! ❤️
Not sure what to say. I love the way the story is moving forward. It is different in the demon possession of the witch and that relationship. The war that is coming. The betrayal of those you thought were close. The spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️⛓️ for me isn’t really my thing but others either love it or it is a trigger. If you have read the previous books then you know to read or skip. It does go a little further in this book. The sometimes juvenile feelings that Mina has should’ve been over by now (imo) 🤷♀️ It was a quick read and easy. I want to finish it and January is not close enough.
