This was one of my textbooks this semester. Honestly, it could've been worse. The authors had a good sense of humor and actually explained things well. If you've got to learn about grant writing, I think this is a pretty good resource.
This book is titled appropriately. I read it cover to cover and will be keeping it for reference in the future. I have written a few successful grants, but this really helped me fill in some of my knowledge gaps in addition to providing details to help me create many more winning proposals in the future.
Informative, clear and comprehensive come to mind immediately in reference to this particular book. I read it prepping for class. My only criticism is that it didn't really extend beyond the borders of the US for grant-seekers. But, many of the same principles apply. This would be a particularly useful resource for non-governmental agencies seeking funds for programmes.
I don't plan to ever read another book about grant-writing, so I'm glad I chose this one because I can't imagine there is a better book out there. The authors make the subject interesting while also providing really good advice and examples. The bottom line for grant-writing seems to be this, though: READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
