Sensorimotor Awareness: A Kinesthetic Guide to the Body in Action

Rate this book
Sensorimotor Awareness is a comprehensive course of study on how to heighten kinesthetic awareness and control of the body in action. In this groundbreaking book, Dimon shows us that, by understanding specific bodily systems, it becomes possible to identify what we are doing to interfere with these systems and to become more highly aware in the process. When the musculoskeletal system works according to its natural design, muscles do not strain but are naturally healthy and toned, joints function with maximum ease, breathing is full and unimpeded, and movement is effortless and light. The result is a practical understanding of our potential for gaining greater awareness and control in action as the basis for a new approach to living mindfully and healthfully. Written in a style that is easy to understand and to put into practice, Ted Dimon brings us the first-ever curriculum on kinesthetic education, offering detailed and in-depth experiential procedures and a path toward ongoing learning and self-knowledge.

As a teacher of Alexander Technique, I have been waiting with eagerness for this book to be published after having read and greatly enjoyed Ted Dimon’s previous publication Anatomy in Action.
Sensorimotor Awareness: A Kinesthetic Guide to the Body in Action is a comprehensive guide to the understanding of what skills are required for the mastering of one’s sensory awareness. This book covers extensively both theoretical concepts and practical explorations of how the body is designed to work efficiently.
How to direct attention to the body, how to feel and understand its feedback, how to explore intention both in movement and stillness, are all covered by verbal instructions using clear language that guides you through practical procedures and the sensory experience associated with them.
To anyone who seeks to learn the skill of being more self-aware of oneself in whatever we do in our life I can recommend reading this book.
