Books for Oliver
by Jim Larkin
The art work is outstanding. The drawing show the bleak nature of the African farms in Kenya. It introduces the importance of learning and the limitation and access problems children have in other countries. Although the text should be read to most elementary students I see this book as a great discussion with children. It teaches the importance of learning. The differences in educational practices in other countries. The hardships of poverty and how it affects children in other countries. Most of all it shows that families can work together to get things they need. If they think about a problem hard enough they may find a solution. This is a mondo book that was shared through out the district at one time.
