This book will take you to the jungle, where an old woman is waiting to share secrets of Matriarchy, Mystery, and Mythology.

🌳 INSIGHT: Set in the mythical Dandakaranya forest, the book reimagines a world where matriarchy thrived, challenging the patriarchal narratives that dominate history. When Samira, a filmmaker, sets out to explore its depths, she stumbles upon a forgotten past that changes her perspective on power, survival, and history.

🌳 REVIEW: Shiwani Kumar blends myth and reality beautifully, bringing the jungle to life with vivid descriptions. The novel sheds light on an alternate history where women held authority, making it both refreshing and significant.

One of its biggest strengths is its exploration of matriarchy. Samira’s journey feels personal and thought-provoking, and the characters are strong and multi-dimensional. The layers of myth and history - through hell, heaven and earth, highlight how narratives are shaped by those in power.

The writing is poetic at times, adding depth to the themes. However, certain sections are slow-paced due to detailed descriptions, which might challenge readers who prefer a fast-moving plot.

Overall, Dandakaranya is a fascinating read that challenges the way we view history and gender roles.

🌳 STRENGTHS:
1. A unique and bold take on history and mythology.
2. Beautifully written with poetic and thought-provoking language.
3. Strong, well-developed female characters.

🌳 WEAKNESSES:
1. Some parts feel slow due to heavy descriptions.
2. Certain themes are complex, making the narrative slightly dense.

🌳 TARGET READERS:
18+, especially those interested in historical fiction, mythology, and feminist narratives.

🌳 GENRE: Historical Fiction / Mythological Literature

🌳 RATING: 4.3/5

Misleading book promotion. I fell in that trap. it wasn't what I thought it'd be. too confusing narration at times. the writing style is immature. and there were so many so many misplaced words. even two starts is a lot. The author needs to improve her writing a lot.

Review of Dandakaranya

Crazy imagination! But I’d recommend reading it only if you can finish it in one go—because otherwise, like in my case, the impact gets diluted.

The book is divided into three parts—Earth, Hell, and Heaven. And none of them appear the way we usually imagine them. That’s where the writer’s creativity truly shines. Some of her lines really pierced through me.

That said, I’d call it good but not great. At times, I felt disconnected, which was unexpected from such a short book (just around 150 pages).

Still, reading experiences differ from person to person. And there’s only one way to know—pick it up and see how it lands for you.

This book was truly unique and refreshingly different. It has thrill, suspense, and a touch of confusion—all in a good way. It isn’t very long, so most people can easily binge-read it, not just because of its length but because of the constant thrill and the curiosity to know where the story is heading.

Throughout the book, you’ll keep guessing different endings and possible climaxes, creating your own versions of the story in your head. I won’t give away any spoilers, but I genuinely feel everyone should read this once.

P.S. Don’t skip the prologue.
