''With many 'how to draw' books published every year, Drawing for Everyone stands out as one of the very few that could earn a place on the bookshelves of artists and nonartists alike as 'essential.''' Foreword Reviews
''This accessible and practical guide to realistic drawing basics has wide appeal...'' Library Journal
Anyone can draw. Award-winning artist Bruce Waldman has spent more than 30 years teaching people at all levels simple methods for drawing nearly anything imaginable, adapting and simplifying techniques favored by artists since the Renaissance. Now his book Drawing for Everyone provides a clear path to artistic expression for those who have never attempted art before as well as those making a living at it.
Really great if you want to learn (or relearn, as was the case for me!) the basics of drawing. The book is really structured like a short course, with exercises for you to do in each chapter. This is written so that anyone can understand even if you've never so much as picked up a pencil before, but if you go through all the chapters and really practice the exercises, you can get to a pretty decent level of competency so that you can then just practice on your own, or explore the types of drawing you like best more in-depth. But Waldman gives you all the tools, getting "better" is a matter of practice, practice, and more practice. Even though Waldman mentions helpful supplies and tools, all you really need to get started with the exercises is a pencil, an eraser, and paper.
I have to admit to not reading this whole book because I borrowed it from the library. But it's a great book as far as I did read. So now I plan on buying it.
Each chapter is on a different aspect of drawing, but the important thing is how succinctly each lesson is presented. And the examples often consist of a drawing, but with all kinds of extra lines and marks to show and assist the student on their own drawings, thereby making the lesson much more personal than a lot of other art books.
Clear, intelligent instructions. It begins with basic rules for realist drawing and provides exercises for every stage of learning. unlike some books that have a talented author just trying to explain how they draw, this is a talented teacher with experience in his methods.
