When I first opened this book I was disappointed. It looked sparse, and, to be honest, too much like a high school text. A short introduction, questions to consider, a selected passage, some points to consider. All was compact, short and sweet. Is that all there is to cover a sweeping topic?

Well, yes, but as I began to work my way through the text my initial reluctance was replaced by one of appreciation. Each section was complete. Each leading question well structured and pertinent.

By the time I completed the text I was impressed with the book. The individual sections were never intended to completely cover a topic. Rather, they were ignition points, a door of discovery.

This text is well worth reading if you want a broad introduction into Victorian England.

Disappointing. This was more about politics--all the way through--than what's depicted on the cover.
