When Scarlet defeated the tyrant god Riordan, fulfilling her pact with the goddess of Death, she thought she—and the kingdom—would be free.
But the true battle has just begun.
As Riordan’s army marches back to confront the Vanguard, she fears the rebellion will lose their tenuous hold on the kingdom’s capital.
The approaching troops are far from the only threat, as Ange, a friend-turned-foe, vies to become the ruler of the whole continent—a queen with the power of all the gods.
Scarlet must race to recruit allies before it’s too late to protect her newly-reunited family. Amidst it all, she seeks to bring the boy she loves back to life.
But to do so, she must make another deal with a god… and this time, it could cost her everything.
What will Scarlet sacrifice to gain the power she needs to save her kingdom and everyone she loves?
Inferno Incarnate starts off right where Death's Emissary ended. Scarlet is reunited with both of her parents. She learns the war is not over with the capture of Riordan. It's only just begun. Her first mission is to save Dante, her true love that was killed saving her. She learns there is a way to release his soul, and bring him back to her. To do this she must become an Incarnate to one of the Gods. She bonds with the God, Kajiem. With her powers and energy she can get Dante back. Even releasing Dante's soul does not solve everything. There are many more battles to win. Not to mention her arch enemy, Ange. Ange has chosen war to regain control of all of the God's and their energy and powers. She wants to rule the world. I enjoyed the friendship between Scarlet and Barek. Barek has tremendous stress in his life. His brother is the leader of the opposing army. He knows that one day he will have to see his brother killed to survive this war. And his lover, Gideon was captured by Barek's allies. Barek is heartbroken that he and Gideon are on opposite sides of this war. He hopes he can convince Gideon to join his forces. This book continues Scarlet's story. The ending leaves a cliffhanger though. If you like swords and sorcery, Gods, deadly battles, emotional strife, and family reunions piled with lots of magic, this book is for you. I do advise that you read book 1, Death's Emissary first. You need Scarlet's back story to fully enjoy this one. I will be waiting anxiously for the continuation of Scarlet's story.
Watching Scarlet and her growth through these books has been truly amazing, the obstacles that she has had to face, lost friends, etc just shows howtruly strong she is. I awaited this book and the anticipation was a killer, andlet me tell you it did not disappoint, it just pulled me futher and futher into the story where it is truly wrapped around my brain as of now. It was amazingly written just as the first was, but this one gave me so much more depth that I was looking for. You wont regret reading this book, If you havent read Death's Emissary then grab it and read it and then tackle this one, you will love it!
