Hi, hello and welcome. I’ve cried myself completely dry after reading this novella.

Ryan Cody, the beautiful beautiful man that you are. He claimed our hearts to give way how he conquered love and made his heart the shape of the one he lost. Loving Rae was like breathing for him. Loving Rae was like sunshine when he only saw the rain ever since he told he loved her the first day.

Rae painted him the stars when he only saw the dark.

With grief and love interviened, So Long Honey gifted a Ryan that changed me forever. He’s so raw and real, so charming but also this broken and lost boy who needed light to survive. So when his light vanished, he’s put to try and navigate in the world blindfolded. Rae gave me such warmth, a flood of emotions and healing at the same time. Think of her as the most beautiful things you can imagine, then go beyond that.

” He’s your star now baby. Follow the sun back into the light.”

The epilogue put my emotions in a blender. I was loosing it. Ryan and Cael, father and son, these two are bigger than the whole galaxy. Ryan loved so big so Cael could love even bigger.

This was a beautiful story. It had so many different emotions and made me really immerse in both Ryan and Rae. I read it in one sitting (well two if you count the fact I had to come back to the epilogue at a more convenient crying time.

This look into Ryan at the same age of Cael. You can see how much of his dad Cael has in his personality.

The way Ryan FELL for Rae straight away. I was in awe reading it.

I loved seeing the start of Clementines parents relationship and the start of the friendship between Rae and Mary!

THAT. EPILOGUE. MADE. ME. VIOLENTLY. CRY. Like WOW.

“it felt like there had never been enough hours in the day to love her.”

god, i don’t even know where to start with this one. this little novella was everything that i didn’t know i needed until finishing it. in fact, i put it off just to savor it, but now i’m wishing i didn’t finish it so quickly. in this book, you figure out why ryan cody does what he does and what he went through for lorraine as a seventeen year old kid that kept being told he didn’t deserve her. lorraine and ryan deserved each other and each of the stars between them, and it was time that wasn’t on their sides.

thank you so very much to aubrey for the arc of this novella. i will forever cherish it. two steps at a time.

Never in my life did I expect grumpy Ryan Cody from the previous books to have once been a sunshine boy, while Rae is the grumpy introvert practically wearing an invisibility cloak. I gasped when Clem's mom appeared—what a twist! The typical rich-girl, poor-boy dynamic is present, but Ryan is such a romantic who fights for what he wants.

I teared up at Rae's condition—scratch that, I bawled my eyes out again for the nth time, even though I’m still sick. God, what a wonderful novella! And that acknowledgment? God Damn! It broke me in the best way.

Now so many of the questions I had finally make sense. Please, please, for the love of God, check the TW! Read this after Honey Pot to make sense of everything—and keep a box of tissues close. 😭😭😭

Thanks Aubrey for this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Loved this but I just wanted more from it. But considering it’s a novella!! 💜💜💜

“I love you, and I know you think that’s stupid, but I’ve been telling you since the day we met, and I’ll be telling you that until the day we die.”

You cannot have the Hornets Nest without the love story of Ryan and Lorraine Cody. In Honey Pot and Bad Honey, you see Ryan Cody as a gruff, heartbroken, and altogether sad man, one who is so busy holding himself together that he cannot find it within himself to try to heal or grieve with his broken son, Cael.

Ryan wasn't always that way, though. Ryan was full of life, love, and hope, back when he first met his Lorraine, the quintessential "girl next door", but really the girl next door to his good friend, but that never sounds as good. In So Long, Honey, you travel back in time to discover the beginning of the love story between Ryan and Lorraine, the original 'heart of the Hornets'.

Ryan, a small town baseball star who dreams of getting out of the essential Hell that he lives in, falls in love at first sight with his English tutor, Lorraine Fields, the mayor's daughter. Suddenly, his world is turned upside down when the girl that he loves shares her secret, and instead of running from her terminal illness, he loves her through it. He will be damned if he keeps her in a town that refuses to let her shine like the star she is.

Ryan Cody is the moon, Cael Cody is the sun, and Lorraine, well Lorraine is the stars that connects them to each other; beautiful and undying.

This story had me in my feels throughout each and every single page. The grief that Ryan and Cael feel is woven within each word, but so is love. "Grief, I’ve learned, is really love. It’s all the love you want to give but cannot give. The more you loved someone, the more you grieve. All of that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes and in that part of your chest that gets empty and hollow feeling. The happiness of love turns to sadness when unspent. Grief is just love with no place to go."

This novella should be read after Honey Pot, as it brings in characters that you meet in Cael's book, but just because it is short, does not mean that it is not heartbreaking. This is life, love, and grief all rolled into one; a movement through the stages of grief where most of us live.

I lost my "Lorraine" eight years ago, and I've never been the same since. Perhaps that is why I relate so heavily to this book. Thank you for giving me an outlet to let out some of my pain and grief over my loss, as well as feeling for the characters and the home that you have built. The fact that Ryan Cody was the one who created the two finger tap will be burned into my retinas and my soul for the rest of time.

The Nest is home, and the Nest is where we belong.

》A collision of stars, it's romantic, Ryan《

This book is about Cael Cody parents, the love story about Ryan Cody and Rae Field.

One of my favorite movies is A Walk To Remember (i also loved the book but Mandy Moore and Shane West as Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter just marked my teen years and adulthood.)
Anyway, what I wanted to say is that So Long Honey gave me the same feelings, I cried the whole time, their beautiful love story.
I felt like this book gave me the extra that A walk to remember didn't.
Rae had her whole life, she raised the Hornets boys, she was and still is Starlight, she will always be Rae and Cael's mom.

We could also understand why Ryan became the way he was, he came from a broken house and the only light he had was hers.

It made me love Ryan, he didn't know how to live without his light, without his soul mate, we can see Cael so much in him, I loved every second of it...

Aubrey I fcking loved this book. It took me a while to get to it because I knew it would break my heart into a thousand pieces😭

So Long, Honey is the story that started it all—Ryan Cody & Lorraine (Rae) Field. It's poignant, deep, and will rip right into your soul. We meet Coach Cody as a 17-year-old talented baseball player with big dreams of escaping his circumstances. Then his world shifts when he meets the beautiful Rae. OMG—this love, this connection, is EVERYTHING.

Ryan’s unwavering devotion to Rae made me see him in a whole new light. I absolutely recommend reading this after Book 1 to fully appreciate how much Ryan’s changed—and how powerful Rae was in his and Cael's lives.

I nearly died when I realized the two-finger chest tap the Hornets use to show love and support originated with Ryan... OMG—**insert ugly cry here**.

Aubrey’s writing is always tender, raw, and soul-wrenching. It’s beautiful, torturous, and I can’t get enough. This book broke me in the best way. It's a short, emotional gut-punch about love, loss, and that kind of connection that never really dies. I felt every word. If you've ever loved someone so deeply it hurt, this book will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

It's got the perfect mix of love and heartbreak, and it will hit you deep down in your soul. It will pull you in, leave your heart in tiny pieces and you will thank Aubrey for the experience.

Arc Review
So long honey By Aubrey Taylor

Infinity ⭐

First off i would like to thank Aubrey for the opportunity to read & review this book. Thank you for this gifted E-Arc.

Rae & Ryan
OMG! These two are the definition of soul mates. This book gives us a look into the two characters that make the Hornets who they are. Rea is stunning & is struggling to find the positive in life when its so hard on her & Ryan is struggling to make something of his self to get outta their small town. When him and Rae meet he just knows she is the one for him while Rae is confused on why he is so taken with her. These two slowly form a friendship that grows into more. Rae shows Ryan a different view and outlook on life while Ryan shows Rae what being carefree and true honest happiness and love looks like. These two are truly the best and meant to be in ever way possible.

5/5 recommend this book. Aubrey never fails to amaze me with her storytelling and ability to write soul crushing beautiful stories that bring out all your emotions in the best way possible. This is a novella is so beautiful done. I absolutely love everything about it. 💜

4,5⭐️

I knew when I started this novella that I was going to cry... But I hadn't anticipated the ending. Well, I did, but not how much Ryan would remind me of Cael. On the one hand, it's not surprising, he takes after his father. If we ever wondered where Cael got his ability to love with all his heart and soul, we now know it came from Ryan.

Although I'm not a fan of love at first sight, I thought the author wrote it well. Ryan doesn't have it easy, despite the promising future ahead of him. He's slightly arrogant and overconfident, but Rae brings out the best in him. The one with no expectations to live up to, the one who's free.

Their story resembles that of the film "A Walk to Remember", and even though we know the outcome in the first book of the series... it hurts. So hard.

The love Ryan has for Rae and his need to protect her and the people he loves at all cost, will always be something that i value deeply. Having his backstory is everything. I love them.

Ryan loves loudly, he loved Rae the moment he laid eyes on her and he never let her believe otherwise.

Reading Ryan and Rae’s story is a supernova. It’s beautiful and full of love, heartbreak but also understanding of all the emotions that Ryan holds onto so tightly.

Ryan tapping two fingers to his chest to Lorraine, I sucked in a breathe at the realisation that the sweet gesture that the Harbour Hornets use originated from him!

Thank you Audrey for taking us back to the beginning. For giving us the beginning of a beautiful love story. Two steps at a time.

ryan and rae's story is so special and reading this felt like closure. seeing ryan love like this was truly beautiful. 'starlight' has to be the cutest nickname i've read. rae's a 'once in a lifetime' kind of person. i will not be expanding on that because trying is already making me cry, you'll have to read and find out yourself. on a lighter note, i'm actually envious of her ability to bowl a perfect game. the similarities between ryan and cael made me smile, i was not expecting the library thing! i cried reading the epilogue and acknowledgments (and once or twice during the book itself), the hornets nest is so much more than just a book series to me and i know many others feel the same way.

Oh man the words to find for this story are hard. I’m just feeling so much. As one who has experienced this type of grief, it’s heavy. I teared up but couldn’t even cry bc it’s like I’m just numb to the pain.

I loved getting to read Ryan and Rae’s story. It helped explain why Ryan is the way he is and also helps explain some of Cael’s characteristics. What a beautiful tribute to mama hornet. She deserves it.

lots of ‘a walk to remember’ parallels with the sick teenage girl, star gazing, bad boy that important father in the town™️ doesn’t approve of, tutoring BUT still very good for being such a short piece.

So long, Honey

Well this was so perfect, a beautiful way to show us the beginning of Rea and Ryan. He loved her so much, he even made a promise that broke him and his son in the end. But now I understand Ryan or Mr. Cody better and the love he had for his starlight

It gives a lot of understanding to why Codie's father is like he was and is today. Is this his a prologue to his stand-alone redemption story? I'm curious to find out where the journey will go.

"She must have been an angel. No girl at school had ever... shone the way she was"

"No, it's not. Its polite and... kind, and I'd do just about anything to make sure you're happy"

"Thinking straight gave me the chance to see you"

"He's your star now, baby. Follow the sun back into the light"

5 stars 5 ever!!

I read Honey Pot and my heart exploded into 46 thousand pieces (please read my review and buy the book!!!) so I knew I needed a minute to regroup before I read Ryan and Rai's story and let me tell you, my heart is like one of those Japanese Kintsugi vases. Destroyed and then fused back together with honey instead of gold.

No one has evoked so much emotion in me through their stories like Aubrey does. Whatever she writes is directly linked to my tear ducts *makes a mental note to buy shares in Kleenex*

This novella is Ryan's story and in my humble opinion is best read AFTER you read Honey Pot (I already told you to go buy it so if you haven't and you're still reading that's on you sis) Because you really need to feel everything through Cael's lens before you can truly forgive and appreciate and dare I say.. love Ryan. Because boy did I have some choice words for that SOB during Honey Pot but it is all forgiven now.

I have nothing to add except read Honey Pot and loop back to this book and bring the tissues, comfort blanket and something to hydrate with after the tears!

Aubrey - if you're reading this - Hiii!! but also - Never stop pouring every ounce of yourself into your books. They're life altering!
