So, Near You by Rylie Dark — that’s book twelve in her Hailey Rock FBI series. This one’s set during harvest season out in the Midwest, with murders tied up in corn mazes and some shady land deals. Hailey Rock is right in the middle of it, chasing down leads and suspects. Now, I’ll say this- it’s very much what you expect from Rylie Dark. The pacing is quick, the twists keep coming, and the setting gives it that eerie, old-fashioned small-town feel. It’s got that classic thriller energy where you’re meant to keep guessing until the last pages. If you’ve read the earlier Hailey Rock books, you’ll recognize the formula — small community, hidden secrets, an FBI agent who won’t back down. For some, that’s a comfort; it’s like slipping back into a style of storytelling that’s reliable. For others, it might feel a little familiar. Though, it’s what it promises a fast, twisty, cat-and-mouse thriller. If you like a book that pulls you along and keeps you on edge, this one fits the bill.
Near You is an interesting and entertaining read, however, it's plot is very similar to other books written by the author where corpses are found in a labyrinth and the reasons behind the murders are hidden in the past in the community they are found. Also Hailey is back at her hometown where her sister is the sheriff and has her back even though she's breaking all the rules and then some. If I haven't read the majority of the books written by the author I would give this book 4 stars. I thank the author for this ARC.
I did enjoy this book but it seemed more like a short story, the ending came way too soon. It was very easy to read in one setting and ended with a cliff hanger.
