The BloodStone Legacy: Damnation

Rate this book
“My penance will never be enough”

As the world's most feared vampire commander, what do you do if you unexpectedly encounter the love of your life—only she's human?

Do you cling to the darkness you've always known or join the fight for a world where her light has the power to transform a ravaged, vampire-dominated society and save your undead soul in the process?

Set in a post-apocalyptic world five hundred years in the future, The BloodStone Legacy is a tale of forbidden love, heart-wrenching choices, sacrifice, redemption, and the transformative power of love in a world where darkness lurks at every turn.

Warning: this book contains graphic violence, sexual situations, non-consent (not between MMC and FMC), adult language, and scenes and references of abuse/assault that some readers may find triggering.

If you love dark, steamy paranormal romance, The BloodStone Legacy: Damnation is for you.

As the first book in The BloodStone Legacy Series, Damnation is a steamy, slow-burn, dark, paranormal vampire romance. It contains dark themes and becomes increasingly darker as the book and series progresses. Therefore, it is recommended for ages eighteen and above. Book 1 is the only slow-burn book.
The darkness, spice and heat intensifies as the series continues. This book will end on a cliffhanger and Book 2: Atonement is scheduled to be published approximately 4 months after this one.

If you like Adrian X Isolde by Scarlett St. Clair and The Dracula Duet (Blood Orange & Black Rose) by Karina Halle, I think you will also love The BloodStone Legacy.

This story is dark and twisted, sad, complicated, 100% morally gray, totally frustrating and cringe worthy at times.

If you are a Cinnamon Roll MMC loving, warm fuzzies searching, reader...this book is not for you.

Ok, for those of you still here, let's get into it:

3.75 ⭐️
✔️ Dystopian Fantasy
✔️ Vampires + Humans
✔️ Power & Politics
✔️ Dark, Brooding Anti-Hero (MMC)
✔️ Forbidden Love
✔️ Steam (angst, tension, longing) & Some Spice 🌶️🌶️
✔️ Cliffhanger (Book 1 release date Dec 2024, remainder of series TBD)

Plot:
▪️ Overall: The plot is as dark and twisted as the world the characters inhabit. You get a ton of tension, secrets, and high-stakes choices. This isn’t a story of light overcoming dark but of a precarious balance between the two. You get pulled deeper into a society built on power and control as the story progresses. Slavery, subjugation, oppression...be prepared to deal with these themes throughout. I found myself forced to grapple with difficult truths and the morally gray decisions made by a lot of the characters. "The lesser of two evils" came to mind a lot as I read. There were breadcrumbs left throughout that made me excited for the series to continue. if you're into fantasy and not just romance, you'll enjoy the fact that there's still more to be discovered in the rest of the series.
▪️ Detractors: The background on the Vampire Procreation Program and the half-breeds and the different types of inhuman beings you could turn into based on different scenarios was a bit confusing so be prepared for that. It was info-dumpy at times, but needed to be done in this book to set up the rest of the series.

Writing Quality:
Solid balance of intricate world-building with character-driven prose, giving the setting and story an intense, immersive quality. There's a heavy, dark feel to the writing. Even cold at times. Again, since this is the first book in a series that seems heavy on the fantasy and world-building you do get some info-dump moments, but I'd rather get those out of the way so we can move fast in book 2.

Emotional Impact:
Aden and Ellie’s journey is not for the faint of heart. The emotional stakes are high, and I found myself torn between hope and despair (and disgust) a lot of times. This isn’t just a story of romance; it’s a story of forbidden love and difficult choices, where sacrifice and redemption mix and mingle. Be prepared for a slow-burn relationship, one that’s fraught with inner and outer turmoil, making their connection all the more powerful.

Characters:
▪️ Aden (MMC): you are going to want to pull your hair out. Moody, broody, selfish, self-destructive, spoiled, narcissistic, hot-headed...enabled by pretty much every woman in his life. He needs work. And a therapist. But he's on his way to a redemption arc and we get to see that eventually. I hated him and was disgusted by him for a majority of this book. He gave me whiplash. But I have a feeling the growth we are going to see from him throughout the remainder of the series will be phenomenal. Be prepared to cringe. He will give you the ick but let's have a little faith.
▪️ Ellie (FMC): resilient, strong, on a healing journey from oppression, caring, patient, kind, hopeful and defiant.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️
This is more steamy than spicy, and DEFINITELY a slow burn. A lot of tension and confusion, feelings of love and being connected on a deeper level really mess with both Ellie and Aden. Their relationship is charged, both physically and emotionally. Sex and blood go hand-in-hand on a carnal level, but there's a lot of resistance, a lot of push and pull you go through with Ellie and Aden.

The Bloodstone Legacy: Damnation by V E Huntley grabbed me and never let me go. I love walking on the dark side, so if you are looking for sparkly vampires, don’t look here. These guys are vicious and I can’t look away.

Damnation takes place in a dystopian world 500 years in the future, where vampires rule and humans are their slaves.

Aden Westcott has spent 300 years lost to the darkness. He lost his love, his soul mate, and can never forgive himself…until a human enters his life. Could this be his second chance at love?

I love vampire stories and it’s hard to find a new take on a familiar story, but V E Huntley has managed to do that and more. We have a slow burning romance and many triggering moments, and savagery and brutality are the norm.

There is a cliffhanger ending. I definitely appreciate the author making me aware of that in the blurb. Atonement, Book II is due out in the Spring of 2025 and I can hardly wait.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Bloodstone Legacy by V E Huntley.

I devoured this book this morning. Throughout, I was hoping Aden would calm down. I was rooting for him, but he is such a dick! I'm all about darkness and ruthless men, but damn 🤣
Love the side characters and the storyline. Definitely had my full attention.
This is a book that will stick with you, and I'm so ready to dive into the next book.

I just finished Damnation by V.E Huntley- and WOW- I am OBSESSED! Thank you to Book Sirens and The Author for my ARC. This is my honest opinion of the book.

As someone who shares a name with the FMC, Ellie, I might be a little biased, but I am fully invested in her and Aden's story. Set in a dystopian, vampire-ruled future, this book delivers everything it promises: Forbidden Love Dark Secrets, Intense Passion, and High Stakes. Aden Westcott is the ultimate brooding, morally grey vampire commander, haunted by centuries of blood and darkness. When he meets Ellie, a human thrall who seems to carry pieces of his past, his world is turned upside down. Their connection is electric, and Ellie's resilience in a society where humans are treated as nothing more than blood bags is both inspiring and heartbreaking. The romance is a slow burn and every moment they share builds so much tension that I couldn't stop turning the pages. and that cliffhanger??? it WRECKED me. I was so close to throwing my phone across the room- I need the next book immediately! I have so many questions about Ellie, her past, and the hints we've gotten about her true role in this world. The story is layered with secrets and twists, I am desperate to know what happens next. If you love dark, steamy paranormal romances you'll want to pick this up ASAP. There are some dark themes, so please make sure to read Trigger Warnings beforehand- your mental health matters!

This is a fantastic paranormal slow burn to steamy romance!

As a self-confessed vampaholic, I've read books set in lots of vampire universes, but the world building in 'Damnation' brought a whole new perspective. Set against the background of a dystopian future, there was a new friction in the relationship between humans and vampires that I found refreshing.

I have to admit that the first chapter left me wondering if I'd continue reading - there is a trigger warning for violence - but I'm so glad I did. It's important to understand Aden's dark history and how it has made him what he is. Plus it makes the forbidden love and sensual, slow burn romance between him and Ellie all the sweeter - particularly when it escalates into steamy heat!

I love that Ellie's character has an inner strength that grows throughout the book. And Aden, well, who can resist an achingly handsome vampire with a growl like that?❤️🥵

I'm new to this author but will definitely be reading book two in this series - can't wait to see what happens next!

Alright guys, this book starts out with a BANG 😏 and does not quit! Well, a few bangs actually…and I was immediately hooked. If you’re one of those readers that claims to like a dark, villainous MMC but you really mean a broody cinnamon roll MMC…this ain’t for you. Aden, our MMC is a big ol bucket of hot, but totally fucked up morally black character that needs to invest in a really good therapist and buy himself a copy of “Chicken Soup For the Blood Thirsty, Violent, Sex Addicted, Vampire Soul.” He is about as far from Sparkle Twinkle Barbie —I mean those Twilight vampires as you can get. So if that’s the kind of vampire book you’re looking for, this ain’t it. This is dark and violent and I fucking LOVED it.

This is one of those books that makes you uncomfortable and elicits very conflicting emotions when it comes to Aden and his behaviors. We know why he does the things he does. It’s part biology, part response to previous tragic events. Does that make any of it right? No. Not from a human/thrall standpoint. Which is why our MFC, Ellie is such an interesting addition to his world. I don’t want to reveal too much about Ellie other than she is quite the mystery even up to the end of the book (that cliffhanger 🤯). I really do love watching the dynamic change between Aden and Ellie and seeing how much she humanizes Aden and throws him off his not so friendly ways.

There are a handful of side characters that play an extremely important role in the book, mainly Aden’s family. His mother Sophie is the most prominent side character throughout and while we do learn some of her backstory, I REALLY hope we get a spinoff or at least a novella because holy crap…there is a story to expand on there. I mean, the family dynamics…😬…Can you imagine how awkward those holiday get togethers would have been? Yikes on bikes!

Speaking of backstories, the environmental cause for the current Vampire led world was interesting. I’m not a big dystopian book reader but I’m a sucker for vampires so I really enjoy the blending of the old world vampire lore filled with the futuristic/scientific aspects that allow them to procreate and all that jazz. It straddles the line of fantasy and sci-fi enough that I think people that gravitate to one particular genre that might not be a fan of that other genre can still enjoy it.

So in closing, this book was absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait for book 2. Aden is now being added to my book boyfriend list even if he’s a little possessive, a little rough, a little stalkerish. That works in imagination land, not the real world though.

If you’re a fan of:

✔️Dystopian Fantasy
✔️New World Order
✔️Vampires
✔️Supernatural Politics
✔️Post Apocalyptic World due to environmental catastrophe
✔️Morally Black, Anti-Hero MMC
✔️Forbidden Love
✔️Steam & tame spice
✔️Interesting Cliffhangers

The Bloodstone Legacy series kicks off with this fantastic book and be prepared to be sucked in from the first page. You're treated to a steamy scene with romantic undertones, but that's where the "innocence" of the scene ends. A dream quickly becomes a nightmare. It's heartbreaking to know how it ends, but it sets the stage for Aden's mental trauma. He carries it with him everyday, but he also refuses to face it. For now.
This book gives us readers a dual POV as it alternates between Aden and Ellie. Ellie is a human who has suffered a lot in her young life. The vampire she lives under is shockingly cruel. It is literally jaw-dropping when the author gives us a clue as to the depths of this particular vampire's cruelty. I literally thought one particularly brutal scene was a flashback! Nope! It tells of a scene currently unfolding.
I wasn't particularly fond of certain scene skips, but it can be overlooked overall as it probably wouldn't have contributed to the overall storyline as a whole. One of my favorite parts of this story is the world-building. It's done in just the right places with just the right amount to draw me into the book more and more in a quest for more answers. This book is not for the faint of heart, and I loved every minute of it. I personally would have loved more steamy scenes, but for the first book in a new series? This book is a page-turner!
The ending left me with my jaw on the floor. Of course, I started piecing a few things together as the scene unfolded, but it still left me eager to find out what happens next. Crossing my fingers I won't have to wait long.

Usually, I take a little longer to read fantasy romance over normal romance HOWEVER this book was DEVOURED. The romance was beautiful and perfectly structured. It was slow burn but not too slow with all the of the perfect microtropes. I also usually find some times of paranormal romances slightly cringey with all the terms they use and the behaviour of the characters but this was perfectly done (Imagine Harley Laroux wrote vampire romance). For all of the people who can’t read romance without plot, there is definitely plenty of that (but again, not too much). This book will definitely be bought in paperback so I can re-read over and over since they’re love story is seriously so addicting. Could not recommend more.

The Bloodstone Legacy: Damnation
By V.E. Huntley

🖤  Dark Paranormal Romance
🥀  Vampires
🖤  Dual POV
🥀  Intricate world building
🖤  Possessive MMC
🥀  Soulmates
🖤  Past Life
🥀  Enemies to Lovers

"When Aden looked into them, he saw everything he wanted for eternity."

They do say they eyes are the windows to the soul, and this incredible work of art by V.E. Huntley proves just that with her love story between Ellie and Aden.

It starts with Ellie the strong and sassy FMC human thrall just trying to stay alive biding her time working for her not so kind master, that is until he wh¡ps her so badly for daring to look into Aden's eyes which is a big no no for a thrall. Aden the Vampire MMC of course finds her and rescues her though at the time because of his egotistical personality he can't figure out why UNTIL he sees her EYES! You see Ellie has the exact eyes of his one and only true love who passed away almost 300 years prior 😯 not only that but she is actually having memory dreams of his eyes too 😉
There is SO MUCH packed into this book but it is so well written I did not want to stop or put it down! The secrets, the twists and turns 😍 the slow burn 🔥 and the dang cliff hanger 🤯

I absolutely cannot wait until the next book in this series!

DAMNATION releases on December 6th 😘🖤

4/5 🌶️

Dark, sadistic vampires with sides of dystopian sci-fi and steamy romance. MMC is more morally black than gray and would burn the world for FMC. Damnation is setting the stage for my next favorite Vampire series and I need the author to give a date for book two ASAP! The prologue accurately sets the tone for the book. MMC Aden is a foul-mouthed hot head who gives it rough to everyone. Even after a random meeting with FMC, he doesn't soften even towards her. He wants her to love him but seems incapable of being what most women actually like in a partner. Over time, Aden becomes the man every woman who wants to tame a bad boy yearns for.

The world building has a slower pace but is very well done and connects the bits of historical fiction presented through the book's backstory. The characters are very well written, and the MCs see great character development throughout book one. I really have to rave about the supporting characters though. I need a prequel novel or series about the wild young Sophie days PLEASE! I was not surprised to learn the author worked in the film industry previously. This would make an epic live action series.

This book is for people who enjoy the darker vampire novels like The Vampire Huntress Legends and not so much for people who enjoy softer series like Twilight. The prologue and TW list are available on the author's site and honestly, the prologue is a little soft for some of what is described in very strong detail within this book. While TW can be spoilers in this case, most people will want to read it first.

Thank you to Netgalley, BooksGoSocial and V.E. Huntley for an E-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you BookSiren and V.E. For allowing me to read and review!

✅Vampires
✅Dystopian
✅Dark Futuristic Romance
✅Soulmates/Reincarnation
✅Forbidden Love
✅Cliffhanger ending

This book checked all my boxes! Don’t let the length fool you, it is a binge worthy read!

First our MMC Aden, he is broody, Morally Dark Grey (even black in a few instances), definitely in need of some therapy, and also a secret cinnamon roll (which definitely helps balance out some of his other traits).

Our FMC Ellie who was written so well, she is realistic in the way she reacts to situations regarding our MMC despite her feelings. She’s definitely changing our man for the better and helps act as a sort of moral compass for our MMC. I just loved her even when I didn’t, especially in their world I can see why she acts the way she does.

The world building is absolutely impeccable, it was a little info dumpy here and there, but most of it is weaved well into the story. This is NOT a cutesy little vampire romance, this world is dark and brutal, and I can’t wait to see the ways Aden and Ellie’s love blossoms, is tested, and hopefully change their world for the better.

The book is steamy, and there is Spice but it’s maybe a 🌶️ definitely no crazy stuff happening except for in the beginning

As for the cliffhanger ending, HOW DARE IT END THERE!! I had my suspicions about where Ellie came from and to have it confirmed like that was ugh so mean!! I can’t wait for the second book to come out already!!

Also I absolutely love Aden’s Family they are absolutely amazing 🤣.

A Captivating Journey of Love and Redemption

Damnation is the first book in the BloodStone Legacy, and it’s is a mesmerizing tale that swept me off my feet right from the first page.
Aden Westcott, a vampire commander shrouded in darkness, resonated with me deeply. His character is a stunning blend of brutality and vulnerability, and I found myself empathetically immersed in his centuries-long struggle.

When he meets Ellie, a human thrall who resembles a lost love, the story takes a riveting turn. I was captivated by their intense chemistry and the way she challenges his beliefs. It’s not just a romance; it’s a beautiful exploration of healing, trauma, and the light that love can bring into the darkest of hearts.

The author weaves a story that navigates themes of power and sacrifice in a society torn apart by bloodlines. As Aden and Ellie develop their bond, I felt every emotion—a rollercoaster of hope against despair, defiance against oppression.

What struck me most was the depth of both characters. Aden’s cold exterior is eventually pierced by Ellie’s resilience, culminating in a journey toward redemption that I desperately rooted for.

Damnation left me pondering long after I turned the last page. It’s a gripping reminder that love can heal even the oldest wounds, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for an emotional and captivating read.

And that cliffhanger 🥺🫣

Damnation is the first book of the series and is set is a dystopian world 500 years in the future. The society is founded on control and those in control have all the power, and the vampires have all of the above. Aden, a vampire commander, is all things dark, like you would picture after centuries of world problems and fighting. Ellis is so much more then an a mere human in a vampire’s world. Their connection is undeniable and electric.

As someone who loves a good vampire story, but doesn’t typically enjoy books within the genre, I was pleasantly surprised! Give me a strong female lead and you have my attention. I love how her inner strength seemed to increase through the book, not just and oh, look a heroine with no substance, which I also appreciated- along with some defiance! Aden had me feeling like I was on a roller coaster ride. His dark history plays into his character, along with mood swings and a mama’s boy complex, had me annoyed immediately, but you can also see his character develop and I’m excited to see where the story takes him throughout the series.

Please make sure to check trigger warnings. Thank you BookSirens and the author for this ARC, this is my honest review.

“The BloodStone Legacy” is my Top Read of the Month and only Book 1. I retract what I said about December being the month of novellas. Author V.E. Huntely captured my attention from the prologue, and over 500 pages later, I can’t wait for more. V.E. Huntley doesn’t just deliver a story about vampires and humans. But it’s a story that I’ve been looking for. We have a tormented vampire MMC, Adan, who has been waiting for his soul mate to be reborn, hoping to find her due to an unfortunate circumstance in the past. Adan has become arrogant, egotistical, and cruel. Anyone’s touch also repulses him until he meets Ellie. However, Ellie is one of many human “thralls” used by vampires for their blood only.

Past and present pieces connect as the story builds, and I just fell in love with it. Several underlying stories, as well as Aden and Ellie, held my attention. They have to do with the BloodStone, what is being created, the dynamics between the vampires and the enslavement and treatment of the thralls, and the hierarchy of the vampires. What a fantastic story this is building up to be, and I’m so excited for the rest of the series!

This is my first book by this author. And I'm not usually big on vampire paranormal romances, but the blurb sounded good so I gave it a whirl. I'm SO glad that I did! I could not put this book down!! It grabbed me and pulled me in from page one! The book starts out with Aden and his "true love". By the end of the chapter we understand why Aden spends 300 years being moody, broody, and brutal. Then we meet Ellie, our strong and sassy FMC human thrall who is just trying to stay alive biding her time working for her cruel and demanding boss. Said boss has some VERY strict rules that the thralls are expected to follow when they are in the presence of vampires. After accidentally breaking one of those rules, he whips her and refuses to allow anyone to care for her wounds...until Aden finds out and rescues her, but he can't figure out why UNTIL he sees her EYES! You see Ellie has the exact eyes of his one and only true love who passed away almost 300 years ago. And as it turns out, Ellie has been having dreams or should I say nightmares about Aden's eyes! This was a very slow burn romance that eventually gets VERY steamy at times. There were times when Aden would really annoy me with his egotistical personality and overbearing demands on Ellie, but as the story progresses you can see him softening and beginning to think of someone other than himself. The book does end on a cliff hanger and I cannot wait until book 2 comes out so I can see how Aden and Ellie's relationship continues to unfold. 10/10 recommend if you enjoy a dark, dystopian, paranormal romance between a vampire and a human.

This book is very brutal. Aden can be violent and has a temper, and the treatment of humans by most vampires in the world is the worst kind of slavery you can imagine. IF you have trouble with violence or the idea of humans being disposable I would recommend the book for you.
The very slow burn romance was made up for by the first intimacy scene being nice and long!
Aden is flawed and tortured, but there is redemption as Ellie helps him heal from the events from hundred of years prior.
The beginning of the story was a little hard to follow, but it got easier as the story went on.
Reincarnation and soul mates are explored throughout the story, which was novel. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the reincarnation taking the place of relationship building. All of a sudden she remembers she loves him?
The ending was just short of a cliffhanger, with a huge lead into the next book. Lots of threads to get tied up in the next book, which in looking forward to reading!

I was a Goodreads giveaway winner and this did not disappoint. Excellent world building and main character development, including the presumed initial lack of depth of Aden’s character, which is the gold standard for vampire MMCs. I was simultaneously annoyed by him and rooting for him the entire time. Clearly I’m a sucker for a morally gray red flag. 🤭 I’m curious to see how Aden and Ellie grow together in book 2. I also love the found family dynamic and especially the relationship between Ellie and Keeley. I anticipate there’s a lot more to the scientific world we dip our toe in here in book 1 and I can’t wait to see how that pans out. I still have a lot of questions, specifically about Ellie’s past and who she belonged to, but I suppose that is part of the suspense of waiting for and speculating on the next book. 😆 Clearly, I don’t like waiting and I can’t wait for more. Status: 4/5 ⭐️, just bite me and claim me already, Aden!

This wants an exciting and gripping dystopian vampire novel. Set years into the future, in a society where vampires rule and humans are their servants and slaves. Aden, reeling from accidentally murdering his soul mate 300 years prior, has been screwing his way through humans and nearly draining them to keep the pain away. Until he meets Ellie, a thrall (human) belonging to the leader of all vampires.

Her eyes startle him in an instant as they are the exact same eyes as the one he loved. Ellie, upon meeting Aden is stunned when she looks at Aden as she’s had glimpses of his eyes in her dreams her entire life. Ellie, having been abused and battered most of her life by the cruel vampire leader Matthias, must overcome her fears and face her new reality in a world with Aden.

I couldn’t put this novel down and am immediately dipping into the sequel.

The book gives you an angsty, slow burn and unique vampire story that captivates you with its world building and detailed characters that you grow to follow along with and get lost in their world. This dark fantasy world is full of brutality and violence but there is glimpses of pureness and it keeps you wanting to know more. This was a spicy book you can lose yourself in and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey so far and anxiously await the next book in the Series Atonement in 2025!

A highly recommended read for those who enjoy detailed spicy vampire fantasy romance

As the first book of The BloodStone Legacy series, Damnation is a hauntingly sensual story of forbidden love, heart-wrenching choices, sacrifice, and redemption in a world consumed by darkness. This was an entertaining story with likable characters. Packed with mystery, drama and powerful emotion, this is a great read with great characters and I'll definitely read more of this author’s books. Overall, this book was written so well and absolutely beautifully! I loved everything about it and I’m so so excited to see what happens next!

Souls can't be kept apart

This was a very good story about two souls finding each other after hundreds of years. But the cliffhanger at the end shows that they may have found one another sooner if someone hadn't interfered..
I loved getting to know Ellie and watching her evolve and grow while in Aden's home with his family. She was allowed to explore and learn things she wasn't allowed in Matthias' home. She learned not to fear the vampires especially after what she endured in the home she grew up in.
Aden had to learn not to be such a grump and to open his heart again. I can't wait for book two.

This was a well written, complex, emotional read with a cliffhanger to boot. Your emotions will be all over the place. The world building is great. There are a lot of heavy themes so be sure to check out the TW. There was a ton on information at some points but I'm sure that's to set up for future books. It's a plot driven, we'll paced, tense, dark romance with a dash of spice. I'm excited to see where the story goes.

I have to say Aden and Ellie are my favorite series' couple of all time. They have a lot of chemistry, and I enjoyed that it was slow burn. It's a personal preference, but I would have preferred if we had more chapters of Aden brooding and being stuck in his own head about killing his former wife. (I love brooding men.) But this book was really addicting, and I found it to be the book I wanted to keep reading over all my other ones.

Really enjoyed this book and didn't realise the next in the series was not out yet. The character development was interesting as were the relationship dynamics between characters. Looking forward to the next installment.

If you had a second chance to do things over with your soulmate after ruining everything (including yourself) almost 300 years ago, how far would you go to make things right? What would it take to pull you back from the depths of your own depravity to seize an opportunity you never imagined you could have, let alone one you don't feel you deserve?

Hallelujah! This MMC is ACTUALLY morally grey!

4/5 Stars
- Dark Fantasy
- ACTUALLY Morally Grey MMC
- Steamy
- Slow-burn

Content Warnings:
-Physical violence
-Abuse
-Non-consent
-Biting/Blood

This story follows Ellie, a human, in a dystopian vampire society as she comes to grips with the truth of her past. Aden battles with his own trauma and self-loathing while trying to be a better person...*ahem* vampire. Damnation is dark, heartbreaking, and complex and will make you question your own morals as you face both Ellie's and Aden's perspectives throughout the book.

As someone who often reads dark romance/fantasy, I still struggled a bit in the beginning with Aden's feeding habits. That being said, I understood the author's intent behind writing his character the way they did. I love the complexity of the characters in Aden's family and getting to learn about their stories. Their background helped me really understand why they are so different from the other Gerents and their courts, and I can't wait to learn more about the history of this world as Ellie learns it as well.

If you like dark romance and fantasy, this book will be right up your alley. While the romance definitely drives the plot, it doesn't completely overshadow the subplots, which are undoubtedly setting the stage for the coming books. Its balance of romance and fantasy/world-building keeps the story and characters three-dimensional throughout.

Be warned: This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, and there is no set date for the release of the next book. However, the ending isn't so gutwrenching that it will kill you, so I say if you're questioning it, read on!

This is one complicated book ! Between the past and present Adan has become merciless, cold as ice after losing his soulmate. Enter Ellie; a blood thrall that has pieces of her reborn, and you have the perfect set up for Adan to become a wonderful, endearing male … Not even close ! He’s rather burn the world to the ground. Set in a vampire run dystopian future, Adan could change everything for humans like Ellie, but this is a slow burn, so maybe in the next book … the storyline ends on a cliffhanger, which I detest and I can’t wait for book 2 to see how this plays out, because there’s morally gray and then there’s Adan and I don’t know if he can be saved or if he will ruin her ! 4✨’s !

After a reread, I am changing my rating:

4.5/5 ⭐️ Worth the round up!

I was a babe in all things, dark romance when I read this the first time. As I have since (past 6 months) gone down a dark paranormal romance rabbit hole, I have a better appreciation for this series. The time Huntley has taken to establish this dystopian vampiric society is masterful. I love the idea that our FMC Ellie is on a journey of self-discovery despite a world that is designed to enslave humans. The MMC Aden is truly morally dark gray, and I love him 🤭! The side characters are dynamic and remain consistent throughout the story, which helps strengthen the plot lines. This is not your average teenage sparkling vampire book 😉, these vampires and their humans are for adults. You have been warned and check your triggers!

3.75 ⭐️ Good Start!

Plot ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Spice 1.5 🌶

This dystopian vampire lead society means the regular human rules do not apply. V. E. Huntley did an excellent job creating an environment that is in stark contrast to our own and where violence is away of life. The character development of both the MMC and FMC was well done and felt realistic and not forced. The slowburn elevated the relationship between the two main characters and made rooting for them more enjoyable.

Damnation:The BloodStone Legacy: Book 1 has the potential to be a great series. I'm looking forward to learning more about bloodstone and the potential it has for changing the balance of power, more blossoming romance, and more banter!

Genre: Dark Fantasy, Paranormal Romance
Series: The BloodStone Legacy Book 1
Trigger Warnings: Biting, blood, graphic violence, non-consent, adult language, physical violence/abuse/assault

Combining dark fantasy, romance, and political intrigue in one heady cocktail, Damnation sets the stage for The BloodStone Legacy. This is the story of Aden, brooding, complex, and gray-ethically speaking-vampire for centuries and centuries of grief and guilt, but his story quickly escalates into one about deadening his pain with bloodlust, violence, and nameless physical couplings that mean little. For most, he has lived in cycles: control, power, torment-until Ellie came to him, brave, a defiant thrall, challenging to be free.

The now-grown-up girl was born in bondage under the brutal regime of Master Matthias, a man who didn't really get to know Ellie and refused defeat. Her resilience, wit, and quiet strength got Aden's attention and entwined their lives in ways they never would have imagined. The narration is given from both points of view-Aden's and Ellie's-thus allowing the readers to be witness to bare, raw emotions with psychological struggles.

The story further deepens the tension between the ruling class of vampires, the fragile population of thralls, and Aden's increasingly unstable control over his own darkness. As secrets are unraveled and power shifts, both Aden and Ellie are forced to confront their deepest fears, desires, and the consequences of their choices.

Aden:
Aden is a dark anti-hero archetype: intense, damaged, and dangerously charismatic. He holds nothing back in this internal battle between humanity and vampire. Powerful and in control, the grief of the past losses explodes in self-destructive behavior. Times spent with Ellie brought softness to Aden, but his inability to confront trauma kept him anchored with these patterns of self-destruction.

Ellie:
Ellie is an island of strength and resilience among those who wish to break her. Years of cruelty and abuse don't take from her one speck of kindness or determination. Her relationship with Aden starts off with fear, building into an uneasy trust that blossoms into something deeper. Ellie's internal monologue reflects her vulnerability, while her actions consistently show the opposite of that-courage. She's not a victim of circumstance-she's a survivor who refuses to be defined by her chains.

Keeley:
Keeley is the sister of Aden and brings much dynamism into the story. Her strong attachment towards her brother and wit also make her an important element in Aden's emotional anchor. Keeley could be quite confidential yet challenging at the same time because she would often call on Aden's self-destruction mechanisms while offering unconditional support at the same time.

Side Characters:
The development of the world includes characters like Master Matthais, Hunter, and Rodney to help point out power versus subjugation. First, Master Matthais is one of the more unsettling antagonists. His cruelty really sets in the tone for much of Ellie's suffering.

Their relationship is tumultuous, filled with tension, power plays, and vulnerability. The predator nature in Aden clashes with the care he feels for Ellie, thus creating an emotional tightrope on which both characters balance. Ellie insists on being herself, no matter her position in life, and this jolts Aden's worldview, having him face some uncomfortable truths about his actions.

The novel shows how power corrupts not only those wielding it but also those it is used on. The vampire hierarchy is based on exploitation, and characters like Matthais epitomize the worst of that system.

Both Aden and Ellie are shaped by their past traumas, but their paths to healing are vastly different. Ellie's resilience contrasts with Aden's self-destruction, showcasing the varied ways people respond to suffering.

Aden's story is essentially one of redemption-about whether he can atone for his past sins, and whether he feels he deserves forgiveness. This permeates his relationship with Ellie.

Characters are often put in the position to make a tough decision when a great amount of personal sacrifice would be required, whether out of love, survival, or loyalty. These parts of the story tend to be the most emotionally engaging.

V.E. Huntley writes with a visceral, raw, no-apologies style; she's intense. Perspectives alternate between Aden and Ellie, allowing readers to be deep inside the head of each. The pacing is deliberate: high-stakes action sequences are offset with emotionally weighted, intimate moments.

The language is rich, evocative, with vivid descriptions setting an immersive atmosphere. Moments of violence and intimacy have been written down to a minute detail not every reader will be up for, but this definitely goes into the raw authenticity of the narrative.

Dialogue slices deep, particularly in some tight-wired interludes between Aden and Keeley-often underpinned by dark humor, which serves to lighten some heavy themes.

Damnation is an engrossing start to The BloodStone Legacy series, promising readers an emotionally raw experience full of tension, romance, and moral dilemmas. V.E. Huntley does not shy away from tough themes, creating a world where power and vulnerability meet in devastating ways.

Emotionally complex and well-developed characters
Lush, atmospheric world-building; romance full of tension and power dynamics. Weaknesses: pacing issues in some of the slower chapters; overreliance on internal monologues that sometimes feel repetitive. Fans of dark paranormal romance with morally gray characters, emotional intensity, and gothic atmosphere will find Damnation deeply satisfying and a strong beginning to what will doubtless be a series to remember.

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Writing Style: ★★★★☆
Characters: ★★★★★
World-Building: ★★★★☆

Recommended for fans of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series and Sarah J. Maas' Crescent City and any reader who enjoys a dark brooding anti-hero paired with a resilient heroine.

Damnation isn't a dark romance; it's an exploration of power, trauma, and the fragile hope for redemption in a world built on blood and shadows.
