Stuck with My Off-Limits Neighbor

Rate this book
Daniel Carter is my forbidden crush.
One kiss is everything I dreamed.
One choice wipes it all away.

Daniel’s always been off-limits.
My father’s protégé.
Practically his son.

But I’ve loved him since I was thirteen.
Never forgetting the kiss he called a mistake.

Now Dad is gone.
And I’m back in my childhood home in cozy Willow Grove.
Daniel’s my neighbor, sheriff badge gleaming.

He’s strong, guarded, and duty-bound.
But his eyes carry hurts he never names.
I’m curvy, sharp-tongued, and stubborn.
Seeking healing and my artistic passion.

Then a stalker destroys my peace,
leaving threats, broken windows, footprints in the dirt.

I argue, but Daniel insists I move in.
He changes locks.
Installs alarms.
Makes cocoa.
And holds me when I’m terrified.

Every kindness unravels my defenses.
Until I’m completely his.

When the stalker corners me at work, Daniel steps between us.
As they fight, one brutal truth grips my throat.

If Daniel gives everything for me, I’ll lose him again and shatter beyond repair.

Stuck with My Off Limits Neighbor is a closed door romance.
All the sizzling chemistry. No spice. No steam. No swearing.

Stuck with My Off-Limits Neighbor is a closed door suspenseful romance. This book introduces the reader to Harper and Daniel. There relationship has taken many forms over their lifetimes, but the best is yet to come. There is trigger points with discussion of stalking and harassment. Both are handled well, but some readers need to be aware.

Daniel is several years older than Harper, but was raised in the same house when his parents died during his childhood. Harper's parents take him in and mold his character and life. Harper's father was the sheriff of Willow Grove until his passing. Daniel comes home to take the sheriff position after an emotional loss at his previous police position. During this time, Harper moves to New York to pursue her art career. After time, Harper runs into trouble with an ex-boyfriend and returns home to try to find peace. As the story continues, the suspense raises with the ex following her home to stalk and threaten her. The reader is able to follow the thoughts and misunderstandings of both Harper and Daniel through their attempts at returning to their love for each other and understanding what that means to them. The best part is when each finds a letter left to them by Harper's father. Getting his perspective on their relationship helps to build the story line.

The suspense, action and return to love keeps the reader interested from the beginning. The inclusion of the harassment and stalking with dealt with appropriately, sadly those are issues that are seen in alot of relationships in our society today. There is also insinuation of more than a kiss but it is not discussed further (closed door).

I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. This was not the first book of Kylie's that I have read. I enjoyed her story line and it held my interest very well. Take a minute to check out this author if she is new to you or check out her other books available.

Stuck with My Off-Limits Neighbor is a sweet, slow burn romance heavily sprinkled with suspense.

Harper and Daniel obviously care for each other but their relationship became strained. As the chapters progressed, the layers of tension were slowly peeled back and I became more invested in whether they'd get a second chance at love. That was especially challenging with the threat of a stalker on the loose.

I loved that the suspense was spread throughout the story so I never knew when the breaking point would be. That kept me on edge while diving into the other issues. Harper and Daniel had been through so much individually and with everything being revealed, I connected with their often swirling emotions. As they tried to rise above their crippling fears, I was really rooting for their happily ever after.

I look forward to reading more of Kylie Kidd's books.

Harper leaves NYC where she studied art and escapes her demanding, controlling ex-boyfriend Cain. She returns home to Willow Grove to find her high school crush Daniel is now the Sheriff and living next door. He also has a past that brings him back home. They dance around the past of a kiss under the mistletoe when she was 18 and he was 23 in the police academy. Cain shows up and breaks her window, leaves threatening notes and breaks into her family home. Daniel promised Charlie, her dad, that he would always protect her and that is what he does. The story contains both suspense and caring mements between Harper and Daniel. Enjoyable reading as you turn the pages hoping that Harper and Daniel can finally find their HEA.

Well-written book with a lot of suspense, some danger and very romantic. The characters are well developed and realistic. Harper left New York to get away from her boyfriend Cain who was abusive, controlling and demanding. She returns home and finds out her high school crush Daniel is now sheriff and lives next door. Cain follows her home and stalks her. He is basically a coward, always taking off when the sheriff or other people are around. The climax of the story had me on the edge of my seat, wondering if Harper will survive or not. Very nice ending. I received an ARC copy of the book and this is my voluntary review.

Well written book with a lot of suspense and very romantic. I really liked how well you get to know the characters and see what drives them. If you like small town romance with a damsel in distress (kind of) you'll love this book.

A stalker does more than just threaten and cause fear, they take away your sense of peace and security. Knowing who her stalker was wasn’t a help for Harper, living next door to the sheriff was a help, but didn’t bring peace. Both Harper and Daniel had to settle doubts and misconceptions before either could know peace. This book has romance, humor, danger and a few surprises.

Harper returns home following a breakup. The Sheriff in town is her father's best friend Daniel whom she has had feelings for. There is lots of backwards and forwards with their relationship, lots of apologies throughout the book. I found it a little long with lots of repetitive sections and, often, her chapter would differ from his. Suspense part of book was ok.

This was a sweet story. It was a page turner and the suspense was intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. The chemistry between them was sexual tension and the physical attraction was sensation of romance and love in this small town of passion. They couldn't fight the temptation anymore as they gave into romance for the second time around as they both been through things in their life and wanted a new chance of love and romance.
I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. Trina Jones

I really was all over the place with this one. I laughed and cried and was distraught. I was so happy. I was not able to put this down and I cheered for their romance to bloom. I was excited that it did.

Harper was the epitome of a free spirit and sunshine. Daniel had more tragedy in his life than most people would have for two lives. As a very young boy, both parents are killed while on a date night on the way home being struck by a drunk driver. Since he was close with Harper's family, they adopted him. Harper wanted to go to college in NYC to paint. While there, she met a man Cain that lived up to the negative implications that name brings up. He was a narcissist belittling Harper until she lost herself and her ability to paint or think clearly. Daniel and Harper shared a kiss on her 18th birthday, but then Daniel told her it was a mistake. Daniel fell in love with her the first time he saw her as an infant in her mother's arms, but respected her father so much he could not show his true feelings. This was an incredible love story from both sides and made me cry with joy and sorrow repeatedly. This is a definite five-star book and will be worth your time to set quietly and read.
