Harlan always knew he was special, that he was different from other folk. He figured he’d found his calling when he joined the carnival. People were drawn to the sound of his voice from far and wide, even in the middle of the dried-up depression-era prairies. But the carnie life wasn’t quite right for Harlan, and so he kept looking, searching for the time when all eyes would be on him, and he would be the main attraction. When Harlan finally gets his moment in the sun, he realizes that sometimes we arrive in places we never thought we’d go.
