Smoochin' The Wrong Twin

Rate this book
She’s a pop star who lost her way. He’s a billionaire cowboy returning home to run the family ranch. When help is needed, it’s not him she turns to—but it’s him she gets in the end.

Connie Jo

“I have a plan!” That’s my life’s motto, and yet I wonder why nothing works out as intended. Oh yeah, it’s because my ideas are wild and should never be tried at home or without supervision.

When I asked my teenage crush to fake date me to fend off a stalker, I should have known that my attempt to gain his attention would be ignored. To make matters worse, he pawns me off on his twin brother—my childhood best friend.

Hayden and I were two peas in a pod but had eventually drifted apart. It’s why I can no longer tell the twins apart.
And when my “fake” date doesn’t show, and Hayden steps in? It becomes impossible to deny that the wrong twin might end up being the right one after all.

Hayden

I’ve loved one woman in my life, but was friend-zoned after a sloppy kiss when we were ten. Apparently, tasting like soggy potato chips isn’t the way to a girl’s heart.

With my brother, the stud, and me, the spud, I stood back in the shadows and watched Connie Jo pine after him for years. Then he makes a deal to be her fake boyfriend, and all my hope goes up in smoke.

But…he has a plan! I’m to take his place and fill in as her partner for cornhole tournaments and date to a New Year’s bash.
This is my chance to show Connie Jo I’m not the wrong twin but her Mister Right.

Will I win her heart or get cornholed in the end?

*** Smoochin’ the Wrong The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County Book 1 is a Christian, Sweet, kisses-only romance that's sure to make you smile and is free from profanity, promiscuity, or cheating by the protagonists in the story. This book contains faith, banter, and swoony kisses.

super cute read! my favorite part about it was that it was Christian which always makes me smile and some of the things said regarding God and his plan really resonated with me. my two favorite lessons were
1) God is not in the business of making money
2) if you're not doing something to glorify God then what is the point?

also the romance between Connie Jo and Hayden was sweet but at times I was frustrated with how they were acting but that made it all the sweeter when they finally got together.

“Smoochin’ the Wrong Twin” is, technically, the first book in The Beanbaggers Series by Madison Love; however, I prefer to count the prequel, “The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County”, as the first book since that’s where we meet our leading characters for the first time and get important background information pertaining to each of the different stories within The Beanbaggers Series. When I first read “The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County” I knew right away that Connie Jo and Hayden were meant to be and was so excited to read their story, “Smoochin’ the Wrong Twin”. Author Madison Love once again delivered a fantastic clean, sweet and swoon-worthy romance so let’s dive in.

I hate spoilers so I will do my best to be as detailed as possible without giving away any details that will ruin the story for anyone who chooses to read this book for themselves!

We return to Cornhole County where the original team of The Beanbaggers have all returned, as adults, having experienced trials and circumstances that come with growing up, living life and making choices that change the trajectory of one’s life forever. “Smoochin’ the Wrong Twin” is all about Connie Jo and Hayden, where life has pulled them apart but, despite perceived misconceptions on both sides, they never left each other’s hearts. Connie Jo returns to Cornhole County in an attempt to reconnect with her roots, ground herself in truth and hide from a stalker. Hayden returns to Cornhole County after selling his multi-billion dollar company to help his twin brother, Hunter, run the family ranch.

Both, Connie Jo and Hayden, are at odds with one another throughout the story. Their distance and loss of friendship has affected them more than either will outright admit which results in false assumptions and miscommunication making reconciliation harder and harder to obtain. When one gains some clarity the other is thrown into more confusion, back and forth they go, on different pages, timing never quite right. Hayden is hurt Connie Jo mixed him up with his twin, Hunter, when she’d always been able to tell them apart, and really let’s that pain blind him and drive his actions despite his heart’s deepest desire for the woman he’s loved all his life. When Connie Jo realizes WHY she mixed up the brothers she wonders if she‘ll ever be able to fix her mistakes and reconcile with the man who’s held her heart longer than she ever knew, blind to the truth right in front of her all those years.

There were plenty of times when I thought “Hayden that’s stupid” or “Hayden that doesn’t make any sense”. I think Winifred Banks said it best in “Mary Poppins”, “though we adore men individually, we agree that, as a group, they’re rather stupid”; because, stars above, some of the internal and external dialogue Hayden had led me to wonder if all men have this thought process or to simply wonder how Hayden even got to certain conclusions. Not that Connie Jo was much better, but as a woman I could understand her more, to a certain extent, because, in all fairness, there were certainly times I thought she was being just as foolish as Hayden was. There were times I wanted to smack them both upside the head and see if it dislodged a bit of sense into their brains. I think, however, that’s the point of their story. They’ve both been at odds with one another for so long, between miscommunication and dishonesty with themselves and each other, that they had to learn to trust not only God’s timing and His perfect plan, but, also, to trust themselves and each other all over again. After all, what is a relationship without trust?

Let’s address the “stalker” bit of the story. While we do get a conclusion to that bit of plot, and it is used to drive the story forward in certain aspects, it felt rather anticlimactic to me and was kind of a let-down. I expected more from that storyline, and it felt kind of glossed over within the plot as a whole. I guess I expected it to be a more major player in the plot line than it ended up being, so I was both surprised and kind of bummed it was more of a sprinkling throughout the story.

Previously, in “The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County” you meet the Baggersville Biddies and, truthfully, I didn’t like them at all. I found them to be more rude than teasing, in fact, I dreaded having to read anymore about them; however, that is not the case in “Smoochin’ the Wrong Twin”. The Baggersville Biddies are delightfully teasing and bring a lovely comedic element to the story. I can say I’m definitely a fan of theirs now. So if you were like me and didn’t like them before, they get better so don’t let that deter you from enjoying the rest of The Beanbaggers Series. Honestly, I’m still laughing over a joke they made that neither myself, nor the other characters, expected them to make!

I do think that both Hayden and Connie Jo could’ve benefited from having a “mean” friend. Allow me to elaborate, the “mean” friend is someone who is unafraid to speak the truth to you no matter how it may hurt your feelings. They speak the truth to you out of love because they want what’s best for you and don’t want to see you flounder or suffer unnecessarily. The Bible tells us over and over again that speaking the truth is loving, holding one another accountable is loving. Unfortunately, sometimes, that truth is hard to hear and may hurt one’s feelings. But each of us needs that “mean” friend who’s bold enough to speak such truth to us, and over us, no matter how it may make us feel. In the end, that “mean” friend is a true friend who loves you and wants the best for you. Granted, they did have friends and family members who would speak the truth to them, to a certain extent, but it was all done so gently that Hayden and Connie Jo both continued to waffle and flounder longer than necessary. I felt like the two of them really needed someone to firmly, unabashedly, speak the truth to them both in a way that forced them to truly acknowledge their feelings and misunderstandings and take action to reunite with one another.

Now, I think I’ve been a bit harsh on both Hayden and Connie Jo, but their story really is lovely, and it’s wonderful to read and see their happy ending unfold. In fact, I absolutely love a point the author makes a few times throughout the story. It’s something I’ve always said about “friends to lovers” stories and have never seen addressed before. When someone is in love with their best friend, they have two choices to make: a) hide their feelings and stand on the sidelines forever as they inevitably watch someone else come along that will love and cherish their best friend and get the happy ending they always wanted OR b) acknowledge their feelings, gather their courage, be truthful and take the chance that their feelings will be reciprocated so that they can live happily ever after with their best friend. One must acknowledge that if choice A is taken, the loss of friendship is inevitable, because once your best friend is married, it wouldn’t be appropriate for the two of you to remain as close as you were when both of you were single. But if choice B is taken, one must acknowledge you could still lose your best friend; they may not reciprocate, but then again, maybe they could, and if they do, wouldn’t that make it all worthwhile in the end? Regardless of the choice one makes, you must be able to accept and find contentment in the consequences of your actions, whether those consequences are good or bad. There are multiple secondary characters who make this point to our main characters and I just love to see how this, very logical in my opinion, point is made to both Connie Jo and Hayden.

Of course, their love story wouldn’t be complete without a happy ending, which they absolutely get! I will say, I do wish we had been given the chance to see more of their happy ending. After suffering through their pig-headedness all throughout the book, I would’ve liked a little more time to enjoy their happily ever after. You spend most of the book watching this ping-pong match of perceived misconceptions between the two that it felt like you didn’t get to really revel in their happy ending when it finally arrived. Don’t get me wrong, they’re sweet as pie together, and I love how Hayden and Connie Jo are almost magnetically drawn together at that point. I just think it would’ve been nice for their happy ending to be a few chapters longer. That certainly won’t stop me from reading it again though.

The author does a lovely job incorporating God and His truth into her stories. I especially loved some of the prayers different characters prayed, just little bits and pieces that struck a chord with me that could be true in my own life. It’s commendable, lovely, to see God woven into an excellent series of books. That’s rare to find in this day and age.

In conclusion, I absolutely recommend “Smoochin’ the Wrong Twin” to anyone who loves a sweet, swoon-worthy, clean romance with a lovely life lesson woven throughout. You’ll want to pick up all The Beanbaggers series once you crack open these pages and dive in. I can’t wait for more to be released!

A fun read

This is a romcom - three biddies with colorful wigs and a whole lot more which will make you smile. And in the mix is some sound Christian advice! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

This is a closed-door romance.

Connie Jo is a famous singer who goes home to Baggersville, TX to hide from a stalker. Hayden is home to help on the family ranch after his father had a stroke.

Hayden has been in love with Connie Jo since he remember but she wanted his brother.

This is was a quick enjoyable read. I like how the Bible verses are part of the story. They are forced or feel out of place. They blend into the plot really well. I didn’t trust the manager from the beginning. He came across has though Connie Jo had to do exactly what he said. I like the way she came to realize that her feelings for Hunter were nothing compared to what she felt for Hayden. She just had to admit it to herself.

Thank you @madisonlove_romance for the ARC.

Finding the Right Twin . . .

Connie Jo is a singer who has attracted an unwanted stalker she is beginning to fear. She decides to return home for a break, and asks Hunter, one of the twins who lived at the ranch near her, if he would pretend to be her fake boyfriend in the hope it would convince the stalker she is unavailable. Hunter knows how his twin brother Hayden has always crushed on Connie Jo, so he has Hayden accept the fake boyfriend role since Connie Jo can no longer tell the brothers apart. Will the plan work out? Will Hayden get his chance to have her fall in love with him at last? Or is he destined to only remain her friend?

“Smoochin’ the Wrong Twin” by Madison Love is book one in the fun-loving, uplifting series “The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County”; a Christian small-town rom-com series self-published by Madison Love.

Ten years after the thrilling events of the prequel, the beloved kids of Cornhole County are all grown up and returning to their roots! Buckle up for the exhilarating story of Connie Jo and Hayden.

Connie Jo is now a chart-topping sensation, basking in fame and fortune. Yet beneath the glitz and glamour, she’s feeling an unsettling emptiness. In a bold move, she decides to take a much-needed break from the spotlight, heading back home to reconnect with her family and friends. But there's a dark cloud hovering over her—a relentless stalker—and it’s time for her to fight back!

Meanwhile, Hayden has made a crucial decision to return home, leaving behind his business to support his family after his father suffers a stroke. He’s stepping up big time, helping his twin brother Hunter manage their ranch and business. But there’s one big complication: Hayden has been harboring feelings for Connie Jo since childhood, while she’s always had eyes for Hunter.

In a surprising twist, Connie Jo hatches a daring plan to throw her stalker off her trail by faking a romance. Instead of turning to her steadfast friend Hayden, she ropes in Hunter for her scheme. Though he reluctantly agrees, tension simmers beneath the surface—he knows all too well how deeply his brother cares for Connie Jo.

Join Connie Jo on her rollercoaster ride as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual renewal. With her family and friends rallying behind her, will she rekindle her passion and find true happiness? Can this “fake dating” charade with Hunter wreak havoc on her friendship with Hayden? Will Hayden finally muster the courage to confess his love? And will Connie Jo reclaim her faith and open her heart to God once more?

Dive into this captivating page-turner and immerse yourself in their electrifying lives. Madison Love never disappoints, and for those of us on our own spiritual journeys, her words resonate deeply. You won't want to miss the inspiring path ahead!

Connie Jo, who uses the professional name of Joelle Summers, takes a break from performing to go home to Baggersville, TX. She hopes she can talk her best friend's brother into faking a relationship, hoping it will discourage an overzealous fan/stalker who has been leaving threatening notes with black roses.

Does Connie Jo's fake relationship with Hunter accomplish what she hoped? Or did it backfire? What about Hunter's identical twin Hayden? Yes, there are a lot of questions. The good news is that everything works out for good… There's even a sweet HEA ending.

There's more cornhole tournaments (cornaments), more from the Biddies of Baggersville, more of everything we've come to enjoy from the Beanbaggers of Cornhole County series.

This is actually Book 1 of the series, but we got acquainted with the characters of Baggersville in The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County, The Prequel. This book is a standalone but reading The Prequel first sets everything up for more enjoyment.

I definitely recommend this Dual POV, clean, faith-based, contemporary rom-com.

I was given an ARC of this story, but all thoughts and comments are mine, given voluntarily.

They were inseparable friends since childhood. He has loved her since 1st grade. She’s pined after his twin brother since they were tweens. After years apart- they’re both back home… and she plans to fake-date his twins brother. 😱

😘 Kisses-only
🚫 No profanity

This sweet Christian romcom delivers all the feels. 🥰

Favorite parts:

💖 He would do anything to make her happy.

💖 A visit from the Shining Knights Protectors (love this bunch!!!)

💖 Baggersville Biddies (fiesty elderly ladies in colorful wigs who are also evidently very trigger happy)

💖 Texan hospitality

💖 When the Baggersville Biddies “kidnap” Hayden.

💖 News Years Eve Masquerade

Madison has a gift for weaving themes of faith & redemption into unforgettable love stories. Her characters are so lovable - especially the quirky ones (Looking at you, Lettie, Alma, and Mabel of the Baggersville Biddies!!!). Her books make me laugh and cry. They also make me want to be a better person!

If you are looking for faith filled romance, Madison’s books are for you!

I’m going to be really real here- the only thing I really didn’t like about this book is the TITLE. I never would have picked it up if it hadn’t come highly recommended by a couple of people in a Facebook group I’m in.
So, I decided to overlook the outside and dig into the inside and I’m so glad I did!
The beginning did seem a little rushed but once the story got going I absolutely loved it. I loved how God honoring it was yet it wasn’t in a cringey way- just real, authentic kind of stuff. And all the characters felt like my friends immediately. The twins parents were those parents everyone knows- the ones with an open door and food always on hand.
Ok and as a horse girl I thought the horses names were hilarious - Jen neigh 😆🤪. My horses name is Danny which seems so boring next to this.

I’ll definitely be continuing with the series and highly recommend it for people who love clean, Christ honoring romance with a side of humor.

This is a nice sweet romance. Connie Jo aka “Joelle” a famous pop star returns home to take a break and get back to her roots and hopefully draw out a stalker. She comes home to the twins Hayden and Hunter. Hayden her childhood bff and Hunter the brother she always crushed on. They are going to help by posing as her fake boyfriend. But which brother should it be? Hayden has always loved Connie Jo but she never saw it. Now can Hayden sit by and watch his brother pose with Connie Jo or will he try to get her to see that he’s been the right brother all along? I enjoyed this sweet romance novel and look forward to the next in this series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Madison Loves books are a delight to read, as they are sweet, wholesome, and infused with God's love. The Christ-centered theme in her romantic comedies is particularly enjoyable. Madison skillfully conveys this theme without being overly preachy or sentimental. Reading books like these makes me yearn for small-town life. While the romance between Hayden and Connie Jo was engaging, the relationships with secondary characters were equally enjoyable. I appreciated how Madison incorporated characters from her other series into this one. The introduction of additional help was exciting, especially when I discovered who came to them.

Smoochin’ The Wrong Twin

This is a wonderful romantic comedy that also has a twist of suspense making it the best of both worlds in my opinion. Connie Jo is a popular musician who has a stalker. She has a plan to return to her hometown to fake date her best friend’s identical twin brother who she has had a crush on since high school. She did not count on her best friend also being back in town. Hayden has returned home since his father had a stroke to help his brother more around the ranch. He is heartbroken when his best friend could not tell he and his brother apart after all the years of separation. Will they find the stalker? Who gets the girl? The best friend or his brother?

This is a fun, somewhat cheesy romance. I struggled a bit to fully believe that Connie Jo couldn't tell Hunter and Hayden apart. That combined with some awkwardly thrown-in religious references, is why this wasn't a 5-star book for me. I enjoy Christian novels, but I like the characters to feel real and natural. At times, it felt preachy in an unnatural way at times.

I did enjoy this book. I have already downloaded the next book in the series. I do like both Connie Jo and Hayden. Friends to something more is my favorite romantic trope.

This is a clean book. It doesn't have any swearing, sexual content, or graphic violence. There's some kissing, but even that's mild.

I got a free ARC from BookSirens, and I provided a voluntary review.

I rated this book 4.5 ⭐️. It was an amazing read for those who love swoony romances with no spice! I loved the faith component as well.

A love triangle that’s not really a love triangle with fake dating, a little bit of mystery, small town we protect our own, and so much more this book had it and did it very well! I could not put the book down. It sucked me in from the start.

If you love Cornhole, fake dating, small towns, ranchers, billionaires, and famous singers this is the book for you. I can not wait to finish this story!

Smoochin' the Wrong Twin is a Christian, uplifting, inspirational, best friends to more romance. A decade has passed since the original teens formed the Beanbaggers of Cornhole Country. Connie Jo will finally realize that she has always loved Hayden, but not before fake dating his twin in an attempt to gain Hunter's interest while also trying to defuse her stalker. It will take handing everything to God, and a lot of work to get an HEA for Connie Jo and Hayden. I loved their journey. I cannot start one of Ms. Love's books before bedtime because I know I will be up past the wee hours until I finish!

This was a great book! All of the characters were well developed and easy to like and sympathize with. The friend and family relationships were strong, and their faith was well-incorporated into every part of their lives - it made for a deeper story with more meaning and one that felt real. Even though this is considered a “closed-door romance”, the story didn’t feel like it was missing anything, romance-wise.

Thank you to the publisher for the free advanced copy, this is my honest and voluntary review. Overall, I would recommend this book and any others that the author writes!

I am enjoying this wholesome series set in the Southern US. I love that the characters all talk to each other in the small town. They are all linked by their church, school and charity projects including keeping the game of Cornhole alive but having competitions and making the equipment. All of the characters are interlinked by family ties, work, or school and this is a love story of a girl thinking she loves one twin but in reality it it the other one………….. who is her soul mate

I loved this friends to forever romance between Connie Jo and Hayden in Baggersville, Texas. The characters are wonderful. It is funny at times and serious at times. There is a mystery in trying to protect Connie Jo from a stalker when she comes home from her pop star tour. You will have to read the book to find out if the mystery is solved. I highly recommend this book as a clean Christian romantic suspense. This is book one in a series with no cliffhanger just a lead in for the next book in the series. I am looking forward to reading the next book. This is my voluntary and honest review.

If you’re looking for an engaging Christian romance, you just found a winner! In addition to a well-written narrative, there are frequent mentions about God, His desires for our lives, and what denying Him looks and feels like.

If you like a clean romance, but don’t necessarily care if it’s a Christian romance, this read may not be what you’re looking for. I love the Lord (full stop). This read feels like it is working, maybe a little too hard, to prove to me that it is a Christian story.

A romantic, Christian and a bit of a detective story. I really liked the idea of the twins and how the plot evolved around them. The main hero Connie Jo is a famous singer who is followed by a stalker and that is where the book starts. Narrated by two main characters- Connie and Hayden the story is a wonderful description of pure and humble love. I definitely recommend the book to all romantic souls .

I love this one . The book before is about ten years before but I love revisiting the characters in this close knit community . Small town girl turned celebrity singer returns home when she needs to hide. Not sure what’s going on with her supposed stalked she returns home to her little town , her safe haven. I’m glad Connie Jo returned to her roots snd we were able to see the real her. A great romcom with faith elements weaved through. A sweet romance for those looking for it.

I really enjoyed reading this story. Hayden has had a crush on his best friend Connie Jo for years, while she thinks she likes his twin, Hunter. After several years, they both moved back home to Baggersville, they were both surprised. I liked the way the story progressed, how there were religious references but also humor. Hayden and Connie Jo are so cute together and I was so happy to see the way she came to realize her real feelings. This is a fun, sweet and swoony romance.

Another continuation of the story and it was a joy to read. Cannot recommend these stories enough. The faith that is an integral part of the community and story is encouraging and hopeful. The story looks at how we see ourselves and how our personal growth occurs. We are not always honest with ourselves but when we do so, our lives gain so much. This was a beautiful story that brings joy and hope to the world.

Best friends to lovers, crush on the wrong twin, secret identities, misunderstandings, stalker. Connie Jo and Hayden sure have an eventful life! Quite a page turner! Comic relief to all the drama by the very colourful and eccentric 'Biddies'. Every town should have them!!
Enjoyed learning the ins and outs of Cornhole matches. New sport to me.
All in all, a sweet read.
