*I received this novel through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*

This is either the third or fourth novel I've read in this series and what I love about these kinds of books is that you don't have to read them in order to enjoy them. The most recent one I read was book eight, so it was nice to read this one and get some questions I had lingering from that story answered, but they are enjoyable no matter the order you read them.

In this installment Kate and Holly are preparing for two large events: Nathan's movie premiere and the Festival of Horses. But first, they have to get Kate back at Timber Ridge.

This novel answered a lot of those questions I had left open at the end of book eight. Many of the relationship questions were answered, Kate finally dealing with her conflicting feelings for Nathan and Brad. Kate and Holly were dealing with the falling out that nearly destroyed their friendship. And Kate was finally getting back on good terms with the rest of her friends.

We also get to see another side of Angela. There have always been hints as to why she is the way she is, but here we get some more concrete information. We get a little bit of a glimpse into her past and also see some of her friendlier side. It was nice to see her and the rest of the girls gain some understanding of each other. Hopefully they will be able to continue growing as the series progresses.

The horse show itself was excellent. The dressage, cross country, and show jumping were described beautifully. It reminded me a lot of the shows I used to do so often as a teenager. There was even a written portion in the event that reminded me of the competitions I loved so much in my 4-H years. It was nice to see some various pieces of horse knowledge thrown in that didn't necessarily pertain to the story or style of riding being presented.

This was a really fun installment in the series and I'm excited to read more of them in the future. I definitely think that horse crazy middle grade aged kids would love this series. I will definitely be recommending it to the current generation of horse enthusiasts.

I have read and enjoyed every one of Maggie Dana's Timber Ridge Riders series. I adored this one, because it sheds some light on some of the plot lines that have kept us guessing throughout the series. But also, Book 9 is packed with plenty of horse action.

I loved every detail of the Festival of Horses, where Kate and Holly are forced to compete on each other's horses. But they are, of course, rooting each other on, and the reader does too, through every flick of their horses' ears and every precise stride before each jump. Not to mention there are scouts from the US Equestrian Federation watching, even during the (ah-hem) pansy fiasco.

Also in this story, Kate's boyfriend dilemma finally gets sorted out (much to this reader's delight) and we finally begin to see a chink in nemesis Angela's armour. Does this girl actually have feelings? What could have caused her to become such a mean girl, and could it actually have something to do with horses?

There is lots to love about this whole series of books for girls (and even grown-up horse girls) and Double Feature is one of the best. Can't wait to see what Maggie Dana comes up with next.

This book had a twist and I like it! After eight books of basically the same main plot Angela being a sociopath, things turn upside down here. We've been building up to this for a while. The Festival of Horses, the premiere of Moonlight and the in person reunion of Nathan and Kate.
It begins with Kate still out of the Timber Ridge riding club and the plot to bring her back. Then time passes and suddenly it's time for the premiere. Here Kate learns that Hollywood is terrible and has ruined Nathan, turning him from a decent guy to an arrogant jerk who might be drinking or doing drugs though it's never really stated. A video pops up of her confronting him and of course it goes viral. Then it's onto the Festival of Horses. This time it's Angela who is acting out of character helping with the girl's horses, Skywalker her old horse makes an appearance, Mrs. Dean might get her comeuppance at long last. There's a cute moment with Magician and some pansies and an odd jumping course they have to run through not to mention top scouts with clipboards and iPads watching everything. This book took a different turn but I like it. You can only have Angela do so many bad things before it gets old and this series struck the right balance with Kate and Angela having a sweet moment toward the end of the book. I'm excited for the next one as they are off to England.

Another winner by Maggie Dana

In book 9 of this series it gets even better and more interesting.

The main characters, Kate and Holly, become more mature, which is great to see. Life is forever changing, horses, competitions and friends remain as constants in the book, but everyone evolves and matures.
I love that we get more insight into older plot lines (Kate's love interest triangle is resolved in a way I very much liked), and even nemesis Angela seems to evolve as we gain a new perspective on her.

I've said it before, but can't stop myself from saying it again: the series gets better with every book, and the latest installment always become my favorite instantly.
