Architecture In The Netherlands

Rate this book
TASCHEN's new architecture series brings a unique perspective to world architecture, highlighting architectural trends by country. Each book features 15 to 20 architects—from the firmly established to the up-and-coming—with the focus on how they have contributed to very recent architecture in the chosen nation. Entries include contact information and short biographies in addition to copiously illustrated descriptions of the architects' or firms' most significant recent projects. Crossing the globe from country to country, this new series celebrates the richly hued architectural personality of each nation featured.

Same as for Jodidio's Architecture Now: this is a typical Taschen book: big, colorful pictures; short, crafted text. Similarly to Architecture Now, I enjoyed for Architecture in the Netherlands the selection, as I've seen many of the buildings in person. Vs Architecture Now, I liked the more in-depth treatment.

Wonderful: Erick van Egeraat's work (the Popstage in Breda is similar to Gehry's EMP in Seattle); Neutelings Riedijk, all; Search's Posbank Tea Pavilion in Rheden (but not the farmhouse); UN Studio's La Defense in Almere; Koen van Velsen, all; and Rene van Zuuk's Arcam Architectuur Centrum, Amsterdam.

No real negatives, there's too much wonderful modern architecture in the Netherlands to capture in only one book. For example, The Hague's new Central Station/Town Hall joint complex.
