Two broken hearts. One second chance. A love worth fighting for. After being left at the altar and facing a career-shattering mistake in the operating room, surgeon Josh Livingston has nowhere left to turn but home. Back in rural South Dakota, surrounded by memories of the mother he lost and the life he abandoned, Josh is forced to confront the pieces of himself he’s avoided for years. Healing was never part of the plan—until he crosses paths with the one person who once understood him better than anyone.
Euphemie Van Holland has spent years surviving a loveless, devastating marriage. Returning to South Dakota means starting rebuilding her confidence, reconnecting with her Native American heritage, and learning how to trust again. When she unexpectedly reunites with Josh, her childhood friend who disappeared without explanation, old wounds reopen—but so does the possibility of something tender, honest, and new.
Their shared past becomes both comfort and complication as Josh and Euphemie navigate grief, betrayal, identity, and the fragile hope of second chances. But secrets linger on both sides—secrets powerful enough to break them all over again.
A deeply emotional story of redemption, rekindled love, and the courage to rebuild.
Jodi Culliney, former bookstore clerk and lifelong lover of books, grew up in South Dakota, where she lived a peaceful existence until she met the love of her life and made the move to Brooklyn, NY. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Black Hills State University and is working on her next novel.
Jodi's series, Love, South Dakota Style is a heartfelt, interconnected contemporary romance series about second chances, unexpected connections, and the healing power of love. Each book follows characters whose lives are tangled by past choices, unspoken truths, and the paths that bring them home—both literally and emotionally. From a cross-country train romance that derails a long-planned wedding, to two shattered hearts learning to trust again, to a one-night encounter that blossoms into something deeper, these stories blend emotional depth with small-town warmth. With settings that range from a tight-knit South Dakota small town to big cities and cross-country travels, this series explores how love can find you when you’re lost, remake you when you’re broken, and anchor you when the world shifts beneath your feet.
What a fantastic follow up to Jodi's first book, Excess Baggage! A story with familiar characters and new ones as well, I really enjoyed the second book by this up and coming author!
